Illegal mining: TDP, YSRCP trade accusations
On Thursday (July 31), a media briefing near the YSRCP office in Kovur briefly turned tense after a verbal altercation broke out between women leaders of the two parties. The heated exchange drew media and public attention, prompting TDP leaders to condemn what they termed a growing culture of political intimidation. They said they would lodge a formal complaint with the police.
Amid the political unrest, Nellore MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy dismissed allegations of corruption in the quartz export business as baseless and politically motivated. He asserted that his companies, Fini Quartz and Lakshmi Quartz Sand Private Limited, exported only 19,608 tonnes between 2024 and 2025, a small fraction of the 1.6 lakh tonnes exported by 96 firms during the same period.
'The business was aimed at generating employment and developing local industry,' Vemireddy said, announcing his decision to exit the quartz sector due to defamation. He highlighted initiatives such as distributing electric tricycles to the differently-abled and the upcoming free eye care programme under 'VPR Nethra', adding that even CSR contributions were made from personal funds.
'If any local entrepreneur wants to take up quartz mining, I will extend full support,' he added.

VRMCHS turned centre for power politics: Parvathareddy
Nellore: YSRCP Nellore district working president and MLC Parvathareddy Chandrasekhar Reddy has alleged that MA&UD Minister P Narayana had vested interests in converting the name of the old educational institution – Venkatagiri Raja High School – as VR Municipal Corporation High School (VRMCHS). Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, the MLC pointed out that the conversion of name of the school was against the norms with the official machinery turning at the behest of the Minister. He recalled that court has appointed Joint Collector as Special Officer by confining his power to look after the salaries of employees and protection of institution. But the JC had transferred the Rs 1,000 crore worth properties of VR High School to Nellore Municipal Corporation against court guidelines, he criticised, adding that such move will lead to misuse of VRHS properties in the mask of power by the ruling party leaders. The MLC has pointed out that instead of providing seats to the real poor children in the VRMCHS, 90 per cent of the seats against the total 1,063 seats, were given to the people recommended by 264 TDP leaders and students pursuing studies in corporate schools like Sri Chaitnya (32), Ratnam (28) Narayana (28), and 418 students studying in various municipal schools in the city. He also pointed out that against the requirement of 80 teaching staff in VRMCHS, the government has deployed six teachers on deputation and five cluster in-charges and 26 Second Grade Teachers (SGTs). He alleged that instead of purchasing new buses for VRMCHS, buses were hired from Narayana Educational Institutions for Rs 1.2 lakh on monthly rental basis. The MLC questioned, why the coalition government has provided seats based on the recommendations of party leaders, if it is keen on promoting corporate education to the poor.

YSRCP urges SEC to act on Pulivendula violence
Vijayawada: A delegation of senior YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leaders met Andhra Pradesh State Election Commissioner Neelam Sawhney in Vijayawada on Wednesday, raising serious concerns about the violence 'unleashed' by TDP-backed goons in Pulivendula during the ZPTC by-election campaign. The leaders submitted detailed evidence and urged the Commission to intervene immediately and ensure a peaceful and democratic election process. Former ministers Perni Venkataramaiah (Nani), Velampalli Srinivas, MLCs Lella Appi Reddy and Ramesh Yadav, former MLA Malladi Vishnu, and other key district leaders including Devineni Avinash, Manohar Reddy, and Mayor Rayana Bhagyalakshmi were part of the delegation. They highlighted a series of violent incidents, including the brutal attack on MLC Ramesh Yadav and YSRCP leader Velpula Ramu, allegedly by over 30 TDP men armed with sticks and weapons. The victims were chased, dragged out of their vehicles, and assaulted near Nallagondavaripalli village, while the police remained mute spectators. The leaders alleged that the police and local administration were working hand-in-glove with the ruling party and failing to provide basic security to opposition candidates. They accused the TDP of deliberately creating fear among voters and misusing State power to disrupt the election. They also claimed YSRCP leaders were being targeted with bind-over cases and false arrests. The YSRCP delegation demanded that the Election Commission take immediate and stern action to stop the violence, protect candidates, and ensure free and fair local body elections in Pulivendula and across the State.

Foundation laid for Anna Canteen in Muthukur
Nellore: Sarvepalle MLA Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy has alleged that the previous YSRCP government has closed Anna Canteens during its five-year tenure with political vengeance. On Wednesday, he laid foundation stone for the construction of Anna Canteen in Muthukur mandal, with an estimated cost of Rs 65 lakh. The MLA recalled that during TDP regime in 2014, there were two Anna Canteens in Muthukur and Podalakur mandals in Sarvepalle constituency. Pointing out that though DMK came to power by defeating AIDMK in Tamil Nadu, it continued Anna Canteens introduced by AIDMK, for the benefit of the poor in the State, Somireddy questioned YSRCP as to why it closed the canteens after it formed government in 2019 in the State. The MLA claimed that the coalition government led by TDP is keen on opening Anna Canteens across the State in a phased manner.
