MyVoice: Views of our readers 11th August 2025
Nothing can match soulful old musical numbers Referringto Dr Mohan Kanda's most relevant and realistic essay on 'Recalling the gold old 'musical days' makes for joyful moments' (THI August 7), I wish to state that I and my husband relish listening to songs by Mohd Rafi and Lata Mangeshkar. Though we are not well versed with Hindi, their melodious numbers drive us to tranquillity. As for Telugu songs, the space is insufficient to narrate but, in a nutshell, I can say that the most melodious, mellifluous, and timeless musical hits were from the 1950s to the 1970s. Interlaced with absorbing lyrics and breathtaking music, they are assured of a permanent shelf life. The musical genius of Ghantasala, Saluri, Pendyala, Leela, Suseela, Jikki and Janaki and Karnataka musicians like Mangalampalli, Nudunuri, Nukala remain etched in the hearts of music lovers. Moreover, music has successfully been used during therapy sessions to help the physically and mentally ill to recover fast. N Ramalakshmi,Secunderabad Give Adivasis their due Apropos 'The unseen faith…' it is great to see some space given to the Adivasi community in The Hans India', otherwise they are just regarded as a vote bank by the politicians. The percentage of Hindus to the total population would be drastically reduced, if Adivasis are not counted as Hindus. The Adivasis have been traditionally the most exploited people in the nation. Under the guise of development, their lands have been taken over by the state for a pittance and those living on lands with mineral resources are made to sign off their rights for almost nothing. Activists fighting for their rights were dubbed 'naxals' and hunted down by the state. Fearing conversion by Christian missionaries, the RSS has been doing some work among the Adivasis and would like them to be counted as Hindus, even though they follow no Hindu deities and practices. We like to think of ourselves as more civilized and advanced than the Hindus and go ahead and decimate their forests and poison their wellsprings, while they worship trees and animals in the firm belief that there exists a connection between humans, animals and trees. Had we been able to adopt their religion, the world would have been a better place than it is, as of now! Her creation of scripts for 19 endangered languages and proficiency in 22 languages is a testament to her dedication. As Vice-Chancellor of Adikavi Nannaya University, she has taken significant initiatives to improve infrastructure, promote inclusivity, and provide skill development opportunities to the community. I wholeheartedly agree with her that education is the key to uplift tribals and preserving their unique cultural legacy. Her work is a shining example of how education can empower communities and preserve their heritage. Rayudu Vijayalakshmivia email Hobbies promote overall wellness Hobbies are known to boost productivity and wellness. Our day to day lives have become so hectic that we are hardly finding any time to pursue hobbies or interests. Hobbies can vary from person to person. Investing time in our simple hobbies, at least one hour every week can make one happy and cheerful. Hobbies can be anything-writing a short story, a beautiful poem, painting, drawing, singing or strumming your favourite musical instrument. Getting involved in our hobbies are known to take our minds away from deadlines and targets, while they can foster creativity and enhance our mental well-being. A redeeming feature is that we need not boast about them and try for validation from others. It is something very deeply satisfying and keeps us going in this highly competitive world. One should make time for seeking solitude and take to gardening or playing your favourite sport. We are all so weighed down by our work pressures. Pursuing the hobby can make a world of difference to us. Parimala Tadas,Hyderabad-50

Mahavatar Narsimha director Ashwin Kumar says Muslim viewers told him the film strengthened their faith: ‘I'm not asking you to change your religion'
Ashwin Kumar's animated mythological film Mahavatar Narsimha has turned out to be an unexpected success story. The film has now earned more than Rs 145 crore at the domestic box office within 17 days. Produced by Hombale Films and Kleem Productions, Mahavatar Narsimha is the first project from the Mahavatar series, which 'will bring to life the stories of Lord Vishnu's many avatars.' In an interview with NDTV, Ashwin Kumar claimed that Mahavatar Narsimha isn't catering to only Hindus, but also people of other faiths. 'I've had people from different communities, including many Muslim viewers, come up to me and say that the film strengthened their own faith. I'm not saying go convert your religion. What I'm saying is, you understand what faith is. Whether you pray to a God, believe in energy, or place your trust in the universe, this film simply asks you to surrender to that faith,' he said. Mahavatar Narsimha revolves around the evil king Hirankashyap, who's been blessed with a special layered immunity from Lord Brahma. After he mistreats his son Prahlada, a devotee of Lord Vishnu, the deity takes the incarnation of Lord Narsimha to save the child. However, Kumar insists Mahavatar Narsimha isn't 'religious.' 'This is not a religious film. It's an interreligious faith film. Because love, it is a universal emotion. So is faith. Hence the film is growing in leaps and bounds,' said the director. Mahavatar Narsimha will be followed by six other animated films in the Mahavatar series which will revolve around the 10 incarnations of Lord Vishnu. This Mahavatar Cinematic Universe is being backed by Hombale Films, best known for delivering pan-India Kannada blockbusters like Kantara and the KGF franchise. The next installment of the Mahavatar Cinematic Universe will focus on Lord Vishnu's sixth incarnation, Lord Parshurama. Also Read — Mahavatar Narsimha director Ashwin Kumar on Ranbir Kapoor's Ramayana: 'We have a habit of projecting God onto actor…' In an exclusive interview with SCREEN, Ashwin Kumar had claimed that he considers Mahavatar Narsimha history, instead of mythology. ''Mythology' is a Greek term which comes from 'mythos,' which means mithya in Sanskrit. Mithya means concocted. I do not feel, in any which way, that we have a concocted past. We have a very strong past. We should celebrate that past, the puranic tales of Bharat,' he said. 'Our puranic tales are very long, deep, and rooted in history. It's about time we access those, feel proud, and build universes for future generations. It's very apparent that it wasn't done that well in the past, but it's about time that we do it now in the way it should be done,' the director added.

Raksha Bandhan 2025: Significance This is one of the most prominent festivals of Hindus. This day is celebrated by Hindus with great joy and enthusiasm. Sisters tie a holy thread known as a "Rakhi" around their brothers' wrists as part of a tradition on the day of Raksha Bandhan. The sister's prayers for her brother's health, longevity, and defense against evil forces are represented by this thread. In exchange, brothers promise to defend and assist their sisters for the rest of their lives and give them gifts. Let's know the story behind Raksha Bandhan: Raksha Bandhan 2025: Legends behind Rakhi Yamuna tied Rakhi to her brother Yama Once Lord Yama did not visit her sister Goddess Yamuna for 12 years. Goddess Ganga reminded him to visit Goddess Yamuna. Yamuna got really happy by seeing her brother after so long and prepared various types of delicious meal for him and celebrated this day by tying Rakhi on his wrist. Lord Yama became very happy with this kind of gesture and blessed her sister with immortality. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The birth of Santoshi Mata When Mansa was tying a rakhi to her brother Ganesha, his sons Shubh and Labh also expressed a desire to celebrate this festival and asked Lord Ganesha for a sister. Lord Ganesha fulfilled their wish by creating a daughter from fire and that is how Santoshi Mata came into existence. Emperor Humayun received a Rakhi from Queen Karnavati At one point, Bahadur Shah Zafar attacked the realm that Queen Karnavati of Chittor ruled. The queen sought an assistance from other monarchs and sent Humayun a Rakhi, but Humayun was also engaged in combat and was unable to get there in time to save her. Rani Karnavati had to do johar to preserve her honor. However, Humayun honored that Rakhi by defeating Bahadur Sha Zafar, and gave her kingdom back to her oldest son, Vikramjeet. Indra Dev and Sachi The Bhavishya Purana states that the Gods were losing a bloody conflict with the demons. The wife of the deity Indra, Sachi, went to Lord Vishnu for assistance. She tied a sacred thread around Indra's wrist that Lord Vishnu had given her, giving him the ability to vanquish the demons. This folklore demonstrates how a woman's Rakhi might provide protection. King Bali and Goddess Lakshmi Goddess Lakshmi, the consort of Lord Vishnu once was depressed and desired for him to return to Vaikuntha (heaven) after he defeated the demon king Bali and stayed at his palace. By tying a rakhi around King Bali's wrist, she made him her brother and asked him to let Lord Vishnu return to his abode. The Raksha Bandhan tradition is believed to have been influenced by this occasion. Happy Raksha Bandhan to all..!!
