Netflix viewers rave over thrilling new series that's knocked Black Mirror off top spot
The Diamond Heist - which is a three-part series about a plot to steal a diamond from a collection inside the Millennium Dome in 2000 - was released by Netflix last week
Viewers have been raving about a new Netflix series that has overtaken Black Mirror in the charts days after it's release. The Diamond Heist, released last Wednesday, is a three-part series about a plot to steal a diamond from a collection that was inside the Millennium Dome - now the O2 Arena - in London back in 2000. The feat has been described as "one of the most daring heists in British history".
The docu-series - which includes Guy Ritchie among its executive producers - focuses on the thieves' plan to target the collection, reportedly worth over £350 million, and how the Metropolitan Police 's Flying Squad caught them. A synopsis teases: "This stranger-than-fiction crime caper follows the attempted robbery of a precious gem, told by the gangsters who did it and the police on their tail."
It was reported just days ago by Hello! that the show had topped the charts on Netflix, unseating Black Mirror from the top spot recently. WrestleMania is however currently in the highest position on the streaming platform's TV chart.
WrestleMania is at the top of that chart at the moment, followed by ITV drama Black Work, starring Sheridan Smith. The Diamond Heist is now currently at number three on the chart, with Black Mirror then concluding the top four.
Viewers have shared their thoughts on the Diamond Heist in posts on X since it was released, with fans raving over it. One person wrote recently: "If you're a Guy Ritchie fan you need to watch #TheDiamondHeist on Netflix immediately."
Another said: "#TheDiamondHeist on #Netflix was one of the best true crime doco's I've seen in a while. Loved it. Guessing till the end how it all came together. Loved how British it felt too, the flashbacks and nostalgia. Brilliant!"
A third wrote in a review on the platform: "What a story!! Brilliant documentary with classic [Guy Ritchie] touches. Binged all 3eps and loved every minute! Hugely entertaining & very interesting." They concluded: "Highly recommend!"
"Just finished #thediamondheist. Cracking documentary," another viewer shared. Whilst someone else said in a post: "Watched The Diamond Heist on Netflix last night and it was magnificent. Binge it if you can, only 3 episodes."
And sharing their thoughts, one person wrote: "Just saw #TheDiamondHeist on #Netflix and yes, it is thát good & proper naughty." Another said: "Thoroughly enjoyed The Diamond Heist on Netflix… Guy Ritchie really is brilliant!"
Others described the docuseries as "excellent" and a "great watch" in their posts. One fan said: "The Diamond Heist - a brilliant documentary @netflix best one in a while." Another wrote on the weekend: "The Diamond Heist on Netflix, that's exactly how I love my crime documentaries."
The Diamond Heist has also received some criticism though. As previously reported, the decision to include one of the culprits in the documentary has prompted a backlash, with it described as "problematic," and there's been concern that the production "glamorises" the incident.
One critic wrote in a review on IMDb: "On the one hand this is quite an interesting heist with a good story to tell. On the other this is such a slick snd glossy production that it ends up glamorising and sanitising the real crime and gangsters as if it's one of Guy Ritchies dramas."
They continued: "There is a difference between TV drama and reality after all, and I think a different production style would have helped. It also gives a lot of attention and voice to the criminals themselves, which is what they want (as they say in their own words). Almost resulting in giving the impression they were in the right or somehow entitled to do what they did."
The Diamond Heist is available on Netflix now.

Yet it reopened in 2015 after a huge £25million renovations which has seen a number of new rides and attractions. And one of the newest rides opening this year is the Log Flume. The theme park once had the water ride more than 25 years ago, only to close the ride and sell it off. However, it is set to reopen at the theme park. The park's operation manager Jack King said: "Anyone that works in the attractions industry or is an avid fan of all things Theme Park will appreciate the dying breed that is a UK based classic Log Flume. "It is with absolute pride to see the installation of our new classic Reverchon Log Flume. "It is so exciting to actually say Dreamland Margate will be opening its first Log Flume in about 25 years." An official opening date for the ride is yet to be confirmed. In the mean time, you can also ride the Scenic Railway, one of the oldest wooden rollercoasters in the UK. The tiny UK theme park reopening next month which has seaside views and the oldest rollercoaster in the country The Big Wheel, Pirate Ship, Dodgems and Rock 'N' Roller roller coaster are some other rides at the park. Inside there is a huge roller rick and arcade as well. And the theme park also runs a number of live music events, with big name acts this year include Haim, Tom Jones, McFly, Dizzee Rascal and Billy Ocean. The theme park is free to visit, although they introduced new rider wristbands this year. The £24.99 all-day wristbands give guests unlimited access to the rides. Some even said Dreamland once rivalled Disneyland. Chris Britcher, who grew up in Kent, told local media: "The early eighties was a time when the ultimate holiday seemed to be a mortgage-busting ticket to Florida and the Disney parks. "But to me, as enticing as some of the rides across the pond seemed, Disney's saccharine brand was enough to make Dreamland, the theme park formerly known, temporarily, as Bembom Brothers, appear to have their beating at every level. "This was British charm, soaked in temperamental British sunshine and with good old British grit and grime thrown in. Here is another major attraction opening at a UK theme park. And a brand new theme park is opening in Europe - here is everything we know so far.

Disney+ £1.99 deal is back but with one major upgrade
Disney Plus has relaunched one of our favourite deals of 2024, but this time there's a major change that's good news for telly fans This week saw the return of one of our favourite streaming deals as Disney+ relaunched an unbeatable discount that cuts a subscription to less than £2. It may not be the first time we've seen this deal, but that doesn't make it any less enticing. We covered the same deal in the very first edition of our Top Tech series way back in September, but now it's back and with one major upgrade. New and returning customers can now subscribe to Disney+ Standard with Ads for £1.99. In previous campaigns, those signing up for the deal could lock in the discounted rate for three months, but this time it's been extended to four months of cheaper access. A four-month subscription to the Standard with Ads tier would usually cost a total of £19.96 over four months, but the latest deal reduces this to £7.96 – a £12 saving. This marks a 60% drop from the usual £4.99 monthly price. However, this is a 'limited time promotion' and is set to expire on June 30. At the end of the four-month promotional period, Disney+ Standard with Ads will automatically renew at the then-current monthly retail price until cancelled, which now sits at £4.99. With the deal, Disney+ is now the cheapest platform among the major streamers, beating the cheapest subscription tiers of Netflix (£5.99), Amazon's Prime Video (£5.99) and Apple TV+ (£8.99). Get Disney+ for £1.99 for four months £4.99 £1.99 Disney+ Get Disney+ here Product Description It offers streaming in 1080p Full HD video, up to 5.1 audio and the ability to stream on two devices simultaneously. These are the same features included with Netflix's Standard with Ads tier but for a fraction of the price. Like many of us, the thought of adverts interrupting our favourite titles can be off-putting, but Disney+ actually plays fewer ads than terrestrial TV. It shows on average less than four minutes per hour of TV, while ads will only play before a film starts and not during. There is a way to save even more money on a Disney+ subscription for those who are happy to make a longer-term commitment. Disney+ offers the equivalent of two months free with its annual Standard and Premium plans, which provide 12 months access for the price of 10. This saves up to £25.98, while Premium also includes higher video quality up to 4K UHD and HDR and four concurrent streams. The latest deal comes ahead of a stellar summer slate which includes Marvel's Ironheart (June 25), season four of The Bear (June 26) and new prequel series Alien: Earth (August 13). They're set to join an ever-growing library featuring recent hits and critically acclaimed series, Andor, Welcome to Wrexham, Rivals, Only Murders in the Building and Shōgun, as well as Disney blockbuster Snow White. Disney+ members have been raving about the streamer's library on Trustpilot, with one five-star review hailing its 'fantastic and constantly updated collection'. Another says: 'I love Disney+. I'm a Star Wars and Marvel fan but since the addition of Starz it boosted my love, there's even more content for adults now that's worth it all round.' However, the same member added: 'Only reason it didn't get five stars is Disney are not using their other brands in the subscription. If they did this could easily be the best subscription service ever but there is much more content locked behind their own service.' This happy streamer said: 'Good servers, good services, this nostalgia when watching old cartoons from TV. The subscription is really cheap compared to other streaming services.' While this five-star review said: 'Very good selection, friendly support and easy to cancel if you need to. Very easy to navigate their site and the openess and transparency they show should be a model for others.'

Major update in Liam Payne death investigation with trial date set
Two men accused of supplying drugs to former One Direction singer Liam Payne just hours before his fatal fall from a hotel balcony will face trial, Argentinian prosecutors have confirmed. Braian Nahuel Paiz, 25, a restaurant waiter, and Ezequiel David Pereyra, 24, a former hotel employee, have been in custody since early January. They stand accused of selling cocaine to the British musician, who died on October 16, 2024, after falling from the third floor of the Casa Sur Hotel in Buenos Aires. The Little Things hitmaker was a beloved UK musician after rising to fame alongside his former bandmates Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, and Harry Styles on The X Factor in 2010. In a statement released by Argentina's public prosecution service, Prosecutor Andrés Esteban Madrea confirmed the pair would go to trial, facing potential prison sentences of up to 15 years if convicted of drug trafficking offenses. 'Braian Nahuel Paiz, who met Payne while working as a waiter in Puerto Madero, and Ezequiel David Pereyra, a former employee at the hotel where the incident occurred, are charged with the crime of selling drugs,' the statement read. Forensic investigations revealed Payne had consumed cocaine through both snorting and smoking shortly before his death. An autopsy showed he died from severe polytrauma and internal and external bleeding, and toxicology reports detected a combination of substances in his system, including cocaine, alcohol (at 2.7 grams per litre), methylecgonine, benzoylecgonine, cocaethylene, and the antidepressant sertraline. 'The toxicological analysis confirmed Liam Payne had ingested cocaine at least 72 hours before his death and possibly as recently as a few minutes before falling from the hotel balcony,' authorities said. Three other individuals initially charged in connection with Payne's death – his close friend Rogelio Nores, hotel receptionist Esteban Grassi, and head of hotel security Gilda Martin – were cleared of wrongdoing after an appeal overturned a lower court's manslaughter accusations. No date has been set for the trial of Paiz and Pereyra, but proceedings are expected to begin soon. More Trending Speaking from his Buenos Aires jail cell in an interview with local outlet Infobae, Paiz denied selling cocaine to Payne, though he admitted to having shared drugs with the pop star. 'I don't know what I'm doing here, I'm a good person,' he said. 'I shared drugs with Liam but I didn't sell them.' The young waiter described himself as a longtime marijuana user and expressed regret over the connection he formed with Payne. 'I regret giving Liam my Instagram because everything spiralled from there,' he said. 'If I hadn't, I'd probably be working or studying today. I miss my freedom, my family, my mom, and my sisters.'
