Jayla-Jean Mclaren: Family pay tribute to one-year-old girl after two arrested over her death
Jayla-Jean Mclaren died on Sunday, two days after she was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
In a statement published by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary on Thursday, her family said: "Mummy, daddy, and nanny will always love you. Fly high princess."
A 31-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman, both from Newport in South Wales, were previously arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
They have since been released on conditional bail pending further inquiries, police said.
"We know emotions are understandably high in the local community following news of this devastating incident," Detective Superintendent Rod Kenny said.

"First and foremost, our thoughts remain with all who knew and loved Jayla-Jean," he continued.
"I want to reassure the community that our investigation remains ongoing, and we are working tirelessly to establish the full facts surrounding Jayla-Jean's death."
He added: "While we understand the community concern, we urge people not to speculate on the circumstances as this will cause further distress to those who knew Jayla-Jean and could impede the ongoing police investigation.
"We will provide further updates as soon as we are able to."

Police probe after teenage girl 'raped' on footpath near south London golf club
Police are investigating after a teenage girl was reportedly raped on a footpath near a golf club in south-east London on Monday. The girl is understood to have been attacked on the trail off Perry Street, Crayford, close to Barnehurst Golf Course at just after 5pm on August 4. Detectives attended the scene and took a statement from the victim, who is being supported by specialist officers. An active investigation is underway and police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward. Masked e-bikers are 'intimidating' Pembrokeshire town, say locals
Masked youths riding e-bikes have sparked fury and fear in a Pembrokeshire community. Dozens of complaints are being made on social media about the riders by angry residents of Pembroke Dock, who dubbed them 'incredibly intimidating' and 'cowardly'. There have been claims that the youths have been 'mugging' and 'attempting to rob young girls' and have been brandishing metal bats and soft air pistols. Calls have been made for police to take action against the youths, who one person described on social media as 'wannabe little gangsters'. Dyfed-Powys Police has now issued a response to the concerns and is urging people to provide information to help them identify the e-bikers. A spokesperson for the force said: "Dyfed-Powys Police has been made aware of community concerns relating to masked e-bike riders in the Pembroke Dock area. "While reports of violence have been received by the force, initial enquiries indicate that no physical violence – including robberies or muggings – have taken place. "Officers continue to investigate reports of verbal threats and anti-social behaviour linked to e-bike riders in Pembroke Dock and are working to identify those responsible and ensure they are dealt with appropriately." They added that senior Dyfed-Powys Police officers in Pembrokeshire, known as BCU (Basic Command Unit) commanders are also 'working alongside partner agencies on a co-ordinated response to the ongoing concerns'. Inspector Celt Thomas said: 'I want to reassure the community of Pembroke Dock that we are taking these reports seriously and are working hard to identify those responsible. "I understand the distress that these reports have caused to local residents, and want to be clear that threatening and anti-social behaviour has no place in our community. 'We do not believe this group of riders are targeting any particular group within the Pembroke Dock area, but we urge anyone who witnesses any antisocial or threatening behaviour to report it to us. "If you have any information that could help us identify the e-bikers responsible, please get in touch.'

Drug exchange involving class A's foiled by Tarian officers
South Wales Police have intercepted a drug exchange. Two men have been sentenced after officers from Tarian, the Regional Organised Crime Unit for southern Wales. On June 9, 2024, Tarian officers observed 50-year-old Lee Ruggles and 21-year-old Kian Piyadasa as they exchanged a package between two vehicles. Ruggles was seen exiting his Ford Focus, walking to a BMW, and handing a package through the window to Piyadasa. Ruggles then returned to his vehicle and was stopped by officers as he travelled eastbound on the M4. Piyadasa was stopped by officers in Swansea. A key to a further vehicle was located in Piyadasa's BMW. Significant quantities of cocaine were found in the Ford Focus and the third vehicle, and Piyadasa was found to have a zip lock bag of cocaine on his person. Mobile phone downloads showed communication between Ruggles and Piyadasa that was consistent with the supply of drugs. The two men were sentenced on August 8, at Swansea Crown Court following guilty pleas entered earlier in the year. An officer from Tarian ROCU, said: 'The sentences today should serve as a warning to others engaging in similar criminality. 'Tarian's mission is to identify, disrupt and dismantle organised crime groups and individuals who cause the most harm to our region. 'Those supplying drugs make considerable profits from the suffering of others, and we will continue to pursue them.'
