Rs 21cr worth paddy missing from two mills

Peddapalli: Shocking facts were revealed when State task force officials seized paddy being transported in five trucks while conducting inspections at two mills in Sultanabad in the district. A rice mill was allocated 80,966 quintals of grain purchased by the government in the Yasangi season of 2023-24. While 35,000 quintals of rice had to be returned to the government, only 10,000 quintals of rice was provided. While the mill should have 64,922 quintals of grain, only 3,266 quintals of grain were available during the officials' inspections. It was revealed that the mill management sold the paddy purchased by the government as there is a shortage of 61,653.57 quintals of paddy. Another mill, which was allocated 31,060 quintals of paddy during the Yasangi season, was supposed to provide 21,190 quintals of rice to the government; only 5,151 quintals of rice were provided. While 23,500 quintals of paddy were supposed to be in the mill, the real scam was exposed when the officials checked and found only 10,880.14 quintals of paddy. In total, 72,533.71 quintals of paddy went missing in these two mills. Officials said that its value is around Rs 21,71,36,972. According to sources, at almost every rice mill paddy is missing. There are manysuspicions about the re-allocation of large amounts of paddy this time to rice millers who did not convert the awarded paddy allotted in the Yasangi and Vanakalam seasons into rice. The officials, allegedly, colluded with millers and evaded the terms and conditions. Unless the scam is revealed by the raids of the task force officials, the local authorities might not bring this scam to light, which is proof that they colluded with millers. It is reported that a rice miller who claims to be a community gentleman in Peddapalli district alone sold more than Rs 150 crore paddy. If the state-level civil supply officials conduct raids on the rice mills in Peddapalli district and conduct a thorough investigation, there is a possibility that the scam of Rs 1,000 crores will be exposed.

Gold smuggling case: Actor Tarun Konduru's mother moves Karnataka HC against his detention under Cofeposa law

The mother of Telugu film actor Tarun Konduru, who was arrested in connection with the probe into the Bengaluru gold smuggling racket, has approached the Karnataka High Court seeking to declare as illegal his detention for a year under the Conservation of Foreign Exchange and Prevention of Smuggling Activities Act (Cofeposa). The plea is likely to be heard this week. Rama Rao, the mother of Tarun Konduru alias Virat Konduru, 36, moved the court with a habeas corpus petition last week after a judicial advisory board – which reviews detentions under the Cofeposa law – upheld an April 22 detention order of the Central Economic Intelligence Bureau under the Union Ministry of Finance. Rama has sought an order from the high court declaring the April 22 detention order 'illegal and void.' In May, a special court for economic offences had granted statutory bail to the actor and sureties were posted by the family for his release, but the Cofeposa detention has prevented it. Tarun has been lodged in a Bengaluru prison since March. Tarun, who is the son of a prominent Bengaluru businessman, was arrested on March 9 by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) after he was found to be linked to Kannada actress Ranya Rao alias Harshavardini Ranya, 33. The actress was arrested from Bengaluru airport on March 4 while smuggling 14.2 kg of gold worth Rs 12.56 crore from Dubai. Ranya, Konduru and a hawala agent Sahil Jain are alleged to have been part of a large racket which smuggled nearly 100 kg of gold into India within a span of 18 months. All three were detained under the Cofeposa law in April. Ranya's mother had approached the high court on May 12 with a habeas corpus petition for her release from Cofeposa detention. The plea is likely to be heard this week.

Abu Dhabi tops global safety list: What the World can learn from UAE

Abu Dhabi's integrated security and community-focused policing keep it at the top of Numbeo's global safety rankings for the ninth consecutive year/Image: Wikipedia TL;DR: Abu Dhabi tops Numbeo 's 2025 Crime Index as the world's safest city. The UAE capital maintains this position for the ninth consecutive year since 2017. Dubai, Sharjah , Ras Al Khaimah , and Ajman also feature in the global top 10. Data confirms the UAE's comprehensive approach to safety and security across multiple emirates. For the ninth consecutive year, Abu Dhabi has been officially named the safest city in the world, reinforcing the UAE's commitment to security, stability, and quality of life. The latest data from Numbeo (a crowd-sourced online database) 2025 Crime Index has once again placed Abu Dhabi at the top of the global list of 380 cities. This achievement not only underscores the capital's robust policing strategies but also reflects the UAE's broader national focus on public safety and community well-being. At a time when global urban centres face increasing safety challenges, Abu Dhabi's consistency offers a model of effective governance and citizen engagement. Abu Dhabi's Safety Index: The Numbers That Matter Numbeo's 2025 report assigns Abu Dhabi a crime index score of 11.6 and a safety index of 88.4, both indicators showing negligible levels of crime and high public confidence in safety measures. The index is based on user-contributed data on crime perceptions, safety levels, and experiences from people living in these cities. The lower the crime index score, the safer a city is deemed to be, while a higher safety index reflects a stronger sense of security among residents. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like No annual fees for life UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo The Abu Dhabi Media Office confirmed this achievement via official channels, highlighting the emirate's ongoing efforts to maintain safety standards that surpass even traditionally secure global cities. UAE's Safety Leadership Across Multiple Emirates While Abu Dhabi retained its crown, the UAE as a whole demonstrated remarkable consistency in global safety rankings. According to Numbeo 2025 Crime Index report, several other emirates also secured top spots: Dubai: Ranked 4th globally, known for its modern urban infrastructure combined with cutting-edge surveillance systems. Sharjah: Placed 3rd, praised for its community policing and urban safety policies. Ras Al Khaimah and Ajman: Both listed among the top 10, reflecting the UAE's federal commitment to safety across all regions. This national performance signifies a strategic effort led by UAE authorities to standardise safety policies across emirates, contributing to an environment where residents and visitors feel consistently secure regardless of where they are in the country. Factors Behind Abu Dhabi's Continued Success The continuous recognition of Abu Dhabi's safety is no accident. It is the product of long-term policy decisions, significant investment in technology, and strategic law enforcement practices. Authorities in Abu Dhabi, particularly the Abu Dhabi Police, have adopted an integrated security approach. This includes: Advanced Surveillance : The emirate has invested in AI-powered surveillance and monitoring systems that enhance crime detection and prevention capabilities. Community Policing: Abu Dhabi actively promotes community engagement in safety matters, ensuring that residents play an active role in alerting authorities and collaborating on crime prevention. Rapid Response Systems: Emergency services in Abu Dhabi are highly responsive, further enhancing the sense of security for residents and tourists alike. Broader Impact on Residents and Business The impact of a high safety index extends well beyond the local population's peace of mind. For residents, it translates into a higher quality of life with the freedom to move around the city at all hours without fear. This is particularly significant for women, families, and the elderly who cite safety as a top factor in their overall well-being. For businesses and foreign investors, Abu Dhabi's safety record enhances the emirate's attractiveness as a destination for global conferences, multinational headquarters, and investment hubs. Tourism also benefits greatly, with visitors choosing safer cities for leisure and business travel. Safety and Liveability Abu Dhabi's reputation for safety complements its broader status as one of the region's most liveable cities. In the 2024 Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) Global Liveability Index, Abu Dhabi was rated highly for stability, healthcare, education, and infrastructure—elements that are directly linked to public safety outcomes. Additionally, a 2023 Gallup Global Law and Order report placed the UAE among the top nations where residents feel safest walking alone at night, with a confidence rate exceeding 90%. These accolades demonstrate that safety is not just a policing issue but also a reflection of overall governance, social policy, and economic stability. Role of Technology and Innovation Abu Dhabi's embrace of smart technologies has been pivotal in maintaining its top safety ranking. The emirate has implemented an integrated security network that employs: Facial Recognition Technology: Deployed in key public areas to quickly identify persons of interest. Smart Traffic Monitoring: Ensures road safety and enforces traffic rules, reducing accidents and violations. Data Analytics: Used to predict and prevent crime by analysing patterns and behaviours. These technologies not only help prevent crime but also reinforce public confidence in the state's ability to safeguard its people. UAE's Unified Safety Strategy The UAE's national safety policy ensures that best practices developed in Abu Dhabi are replicated across other emirates. Dubai, for instance, combines its tourism appeal with heavy investment in urban security and digital monitoring. Sharjah and Ajman also apply federal safety protocols, ensuring that residents across the UAE experience a comparable level of security. This collaborative approach is a hallmark of the UAE's governance, contributing to its overall success in international safety rankings. Abu Dhabi's ninth consecutive win as the safest city globally is a testament to strategic leadership, innovative policing, and active community participation. This achievement not only positions the UAE capital as a role model for global cities but also bolsters the country's reputation as a destination of choice for residents, tourists, and investors alike. The UAE's comprehensive strategy ensures that security is not confined to the capital but is a shared priority across all emirates, enhancing the nation's global standing in safety, governance, and liveability.
