One killed, two injured, in head-on collision along M-50 near Monroe
A driver was killed after his car crossed the center line into oncoming traffic Monday afternoon on M-50 in Monroe County, Michigan.
The crash happened about 2:48 p.m. on M-50 (South Custer Road), east of Strasburg Road, in Raisinville Township, according to the report from the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.
The fatality was Hunter Alexander Boyd, 28, of Tecumseh. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Boyd was driving a 2015 Ford Focus eastbound on M-50 when "for an unknown reason," the report said, that car crossed the center line into the westbound lane and struck a 2024 Toyota Sienna head-on.
Norma Jean Hacker, 50, of Brooklyn, was driving the Toyota, with her front seat passenger being Gwenyth Kamerielle Ebbert, 25, of Brooklyn. Both women were taken to Toledo ProMedica Hospital where Hacker was listed in serious condition and Ebbert listed in critical condition after the crash.
The Monroe Township Fire Department, Ida Township Fire Department, Monroe Community Ambulance, Monroe County Sheriff's Office Chaplain Program and Monroe County Sheriff's Office Victim Services assisted deputies at the scene.
Michigan Department of Transportation posted a road closing at 3:05 p.m. for both directions of M-50 between Franklin Boulevard and Plum Grove Drive, with the highway reopened about 7:50 p.m. Some motorists detoured onto nearby Dunbar Road, only to run into heavy traffic along that route because of Monroe County's household hazardous materials drop off event taking place that afternoon at Monroe Township Hall.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office Traffic Services Division is investigating the crash, and deputies ask that anyone with information call the department at 734-240-7548.

HONOLULU (KHON2) — A young man on Oahu is fighting for his life after he was crushed by a car while he was standing on the side of the loved ones have received an outpouring of support since the crash on Saturday, June 14. 20-year-old Dakota Briley was unloading surfboards on the North Shore of Oahu near Chun's Beach on Saturday when the unthinkable happened. Police said an 18-year-old man was driving westbound on Kamehameha Highway when he crossed into the eastbound lane and hit Briley, pinning him between two vehicles on the shoulder of the road. Briley is currently hospitalized at Queen's Medical Center, but his loved ones are clinging to hope — even in the darkest moments. 'I didn't want to believe it. I was in denial. And then I found out details. My friend was first there on the scene, and he was like, 'it's really bad,'' said Jason Magallanes, a longtime Briley family friend. 'But the good news is, I overheard the doctor saying yesterday that the bleeding and swelling stopped in his head, and there's some excessive bleeding in his hips, or pelvis, as well and they put that together, and they stop the bleeding with that.' Dakota also suffered fractures to his legs, skull, ribs and spine. His road to recovery is far from clear, but those that know him best said he has always been a warrior. He's huge on diet, you know, 'Do the right thing and put the right stuff in your body and take care of your body.' And that's why I know he's strong. He's in a good position. 'He's stubborn. He has a fire and, he's a warrior.' Friends and family said the support has poured in from across Hawaii and the globe — over $130,000 have been raised on the GoFundMe for Dakota's medical expenses. Loved ones told KHON2 that Dakota will undergo a major surgery at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17 where doctors will operate on his severely-damaged spine — they are still confident that continued prayers from the public and help from the doctors inside Queen's will see him through. 'Dakota, uncle loves you,' Reed said. 'You're going to make it through this. And, you know, no matter what happens afterwards, we're going to be there together and you got a huge, long life ahead of you.' 'Dakota, I love you. Just keep fighting and I know, I know God's going to heal you,' Magallanes said. 'The love is real overwhelming and, and we're all here for you.' POLICE NEWS: Goshen woman injured in Cass County crash
A Goshen woman was injured in a crash in Cass County, Michigan, early Tuesday morning. Cass County deputies reported that at 4:30 a.m., Alisha Kindy, 35, of Goshen, was traveling north on Shattuck Road when she lost control of the vehicle, which traveled off the roadway and struck a tree. The vehicle continued to travel back onto the roadway before leaving the roadway to the left and becoming stuck in a field. Kindy, however, was ejected from the vehicle, after it struck the first tree. She was transported by SMCAS Ambulance to Elkhart General Hospital for injuries. The crash remains under investigation. Assisting agencies on scene were SMCAS Ambulance, Penn Township Fire Department, and Central Cass Fire Department. Drivers hospitalized in crash Both drivers in an Elkhart crash were taken to the hospital for treatment Saturday afternoon. Elkhart County deputies reported that at 1:15 p.m., Trefon Dimitroff, 54, of Elkhart, was passing through the interaction at C.R. 15 and C.R. 32 facing south in a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox. Police reported that Saulo Padilla, 55, of Goshen, traveling west on C.R. 32 in a 2017 Toyota Tacoma entered the intersection. Dimitroff drove into the path of Padilla's vehicle and they collided, police reported. Both men were taken to Goshen Hospital for injuries. HIT-AND-RUN • An 18-year-old woman reported to Elkhart County deputies at 11:33 a.m. Friday that following a three-vehicle crash at the intersection of C.R. 17 and C.R. 10, one of the vehicles left the scene without exchanging information. • A 30-year-old woman reported to Elkhart County deputies at 2:06 p.m. Friday that someone struck her 2007 Toyota Corolla at the intersection of C.R. 4 and C.R. 9, and then left the scene without exchanging information. • A vehicle involved in a horse-and-buggy crash in the 65000 block of Ind. 13 in Goshen at 11:46 p.m. Friday reportedly fled the scene of the crash. A single brass casing was found. • Goshen police were called to the parking lot of Planet Fitness, 2616 Peddlers Village Road, for the sounds of gunfire at 12:07 a.m. Tuesday. Officers conducted an area check and found no evidence of gunfire. TRASH FIRE Goshen firefighters were called to the 30 block of Roxbury Park at 4:20 a.m. Monday. No injuries were reported and the fire department was able to extinguish the fire, which was later reported as a trash fire on the property. BURGLARY • A 62-year-old woman reported to Elkhart County deputies that between May 3 and June 3 someone entered his garage in the 23000 block of Third Street by breaking a window, and then stole a chainsaw and chainsaw oil. • A 68-year-old woman reported to Elkhart County deputies that between 9:30 p.m. Thursday and 2 a.m. Friday that someone had entered her house through an unlocked door and stole her purse in the 26000 block of Stoney Creek Drive in Elkhart. OFFICERS REPORT Elkhart County deputies were called to Sunnybrook Drive and Spring Mill Drive for a report of two men leaving the area after they attempted to open several car doors at 3:50 a.m. Monday. Officers found the vehicle. CRIMINAL MISCHIEF • A 38-year-old woman reported to Elkhart County deputies at 3:19 p.m. Friday that someone broke into his storage unit at 20 East Self Storage, 22715 Old U.S. 20, Elkhart. Elkhart County deputies found that as least five storage units at the facility had also been broken into. • The Elkhart County Sheriff's Office responded to a call at 9:55 a.m. Monday in the 62000 block of C.R. 15 for juveniles damaging property. THEFT U-Haul reported to Elkhart County deputies at 1:47 p.m. Friday that two men rented a 2012 GMC 10-foot truck from U-Haul of Elkhart, 29057 Old U.S. 33, Elkhart, and failed to return it for four days. Charges are being forwarded to the Elkhart County Prosecutor's Office. FRAUD • A 77-year-old woman reported to Elkhart County deputies that on May 21 she mailed a check to Discover for nearly $2,500 and on May 27, it was deposited by someone who put their own name on the check to be able to deposit it as the check was to the order of the suspect and not Discover. • A 46-year-old woman reported to Elkhart County deputies that around noon June 11 she was defrauded of $800 by someone claiming to have a house for rent. • A 78-year-old woman reported to Goshen police at 2:01 p.m. Monday that money was stolen from her in a scam online.

The shooting happened at about 2 p.m. in the 7000 block of Braile Street. Police Captain Shannon Hampton said the shooting was retaliatory and stemmed from an incident that happened on Monday. Hampton said the suspects drove by and fired shots before fleeing. Police believe an older model blue sedan was involved with two males in the car. The victims, who are in their 20s, are in stable condition. "It's a nice area, it's a working-class area. Gun violence is never the answer to anything, so it is isolated for this area," Hampton told reporters. Hampton said the incident on Monday involved a fight at a park near Telegraph Road and Glendale. Police did not say if the women were the intended targets. Police said weapons were recovered. It is unknown if they are looking for more weapons. An investigation is ongoing.
