Dermot hosts as the audience have one simple task - remain absolutely silent.
Each participant is mic'ed up while they're seated with highly-sensitive tech that can pick up even the faintest peep.
Throughout the show, a series of well-known comedians appear on stage, hoping to leave the audience in fits of laughter with their jokes - and the £250,000 jackpot prize at zero.
Dermot filmed the U&Dave series last July, in the midst of hosting This Morning's summer edition with Alison Hammond.
Six episodes of the new show were recorded, each 60-minutes in duration and kick off on Monday, May 5th.
Before the episodes were filmed, a pilot was recorded as a test run.
The run-through was plagued with technical issues, leaving bosses scrambling behind-the-scenes.
Each participant had to wear a rather uncomfortable headset microphone, which felt more like a metal hanger on your head.
I know because I sat in the audience at Riverside Studios in Hammersmith, watching it all unfold.
As the show got underway, an adjudicator would sit and monitor noise levels from each mic during each individual performance from the funny faces.
This Morning star accused of 'looking SO bored' as Ferne McCann talks about new Dancing On Ice series
It would then be decided how many decibels were recorded and what cash would dwindle as a result.
The sensitivity issues with the mics left the crew visibly frustrated, and some frowns in the audience as the segments had to be restarted.
During the first part of the night, a large chunk of the prize pot had been wiped out over apparent fails, which were disputed by crew and the audience.
Even Dermot O'Leary looked like his patience was wearing thin at times, though after almost three decades in telly, was ever the pro and continued with the pilot.
After what felt like a 24-hour marathon, the show eventually got on the road and things started to run smoothly, apart from the irritating metal contraption keeping my microphone in place.
Each episode of Silence is Golden will feature three returning celebrity captains - Katherine Ryan, Seann Walsh and Fatiha El-Ghorri.
The show is natural laugh-out-loud comedy and great fun, and Dermot's energy and warmth takes it to a new level.

Lauren Goodger 'overwhelmed' as single mum with difficult realisation
As Lauren Goodger gears up for the new series of TOWIE, a source reveals how filming the reality show while taking care of her young daughter on her own is leaving her 'shattered' Lauren Goodger says she's 'rebuilding' herself with the support of her 'TOWIE family' – but a source claims her TV role is taking its toll elsewhere in her life. The reality star, 38, who first appeared on The Only Way Is Essex as the ex-girlfriend of Mark Wright in its first series in 2010, returned to the set as a permanent cast member last year after experiencing some devastating personal losses. But according to our source, while the high-profile gig is doing wonders for Lauren's confidence, the reality of juggling her life as mum to a four-year-old daughter with the demands of a job on a prominent reality show is 'overwhelming' at times. Lauren was 'gutted' to pull out of a planned promotional appearance on This Morning last week because she couldn't arrange childcare for Larose, whose father is builder Charles Drury. Instead, the interview featured fan favourite Harry Derbidge in the studio and fellow TOWIE original Amy Childs via video link. It comes after Katie Price reaches out to Harvey's lookalike half-brother but fears 'he's too scared'. READ MORE: Andy Carroll 'splits from Lou Teasdale due to her demands' weeks after public row 'Lauren was devastated to miss This Morning last week because she's really trying to get back out there with her career,' our source claimed. 'She doesn't think it looks good to miss things, but she also needs to be the best mum to Larose. She really hates letting people down but also doesn't want to feel like she's a bad mum if she leaves her daughter – especially after everything they've been through.' Lauren has been vocal about her struggles with anxiety since her and Charles's second daughter, Lorena, died in July 2022, just a few minutes after her birth. The tragic loss came only a week after Lauren's ex-boyfriend, Jake McLean, died in a car crash on holiday in Turkey at the age of 33. Just before her big TOWIE return last year, Lauren revealed she was 'realising who I am again' after spending the last few years in a 'mum bubble' as she learned to navigate her grief. Larose was born in July 2021 after Lauren became pregnant early into her relationship with Charles, 28, and the pair are widely thought to have had an on-off relationship ever since. Rumours they had reunited circulated when the two were photographed with Larose at an airport last month, reportedly jetting off on a family holiday. Regardless of her relationship status – Lauren has yet to publicly confirm or deny that they are back together – our source said she's struggling to find a healthy balance when solo parenting. 'Lauren is overwhelmed – she's overwhelmed with mum duties and with work,' said the source. 'It's so hard to find that balance of taking care of Larose and also making sure she stays healthy and happy herself. TOWIE is her main job so it has to be a priority, but she'd never put it before being a mum to Larose, so it's a really difficult balance for her to find.' Lauren spoke out earlier this summer before jetting off to Portugal – without Larose – to film for the hit ITV2 programme. She revealed it was the first time she'd left her daughter 'to go away or do anything for me' and had been kept awake most of the night by doubts about going on the trip. The reality star also confessed that she felt 'lonely', but had to stay strong all the time for the sake of her daughter. 'I haven't got anyone to lean on and that's really sad,' she said. The sun-soaked trip to Portugal, where the cast celebrated 15 years of the series, clearly did wonders for Lauren's confidence, however. Sharing a sunset snap of herself with her 945,000 Instagram followers, she wrote, 'What a rollercoaster but an amazing achievement for me personally. Here's to rebuilding me. Thank you @itvxofficial @towie thank you whole of TOWIE production and my TOWIE family.' But it hasn't all been plain sailing for Lauren since visiting Portugal in June, as she revealed to her followers last week that she was feeling 'absolutely shattered'. 'I'm so tired, I don't know how I'm doing it at the minute,' she said. 'It has been absolutely hectic.' Lauren put her exhaustion down to Larose's six-week summer holidays and travelling back and forth to London to film, adding, 'I'm going to do bath, do bedtime and do work again. I haven't stopped working. I wish I could have a nap but never. You know how it is being a mum.'

Jade Thirlwall admits she has a 'daily battle with herself to not go on Ozempic' after past eating disorder struggles
Jade Thirlwall has revealed she faces a 'daily battle' not to turn to Ozempic after years of struggling with eating disorders. The Little Mix star, 32, who shot to fame on The X Factor in 2011, says she is now the healthiest she has ever been - but still receives constant comments about her weight online. Talking to The Guardian, she revealed: 'I have a daily battle with myself not to go on Ozempic. 'I don't judge people that do, but because I have a history of eating disorders, I don't know where taking something like that would end for me.' She added that the trolling is a sad consequence of stepping into the spotlight as a solo star: 'Little Mix fans were all about empowerment and celebrating your body however you look. 'Now I'm in my 30s and the healthiest I've ever been, but every time I post a picture, there are comments saying, "She must be pregnant."' She added: 'The sad thing is that it's usually women. But people are used to seeing me in a group environment five or 10 years ago when I was stick-thin because I was in my early 20s with an eating disorder.' Jade - who is preparing to release her debut solo album - has spoken openly that her struggles with food began as a young teenager, when she developed anorexia following the loss of her beloved grandad. By the time she auditioned for The X Factor, she had only just been discharged from hospital. She now admits that the ITV talent show should never have allowed her to compete in such a fragile state. Despite her health battles, Jade thrived with Little Mix, alongside Perrie Edwards, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jesy Nelson. Together, they sold more than 75million records, topped charts worldwide and won a Brit Award for Best British Group. But the relentless pace, industry pressure and constant scrutiny took their toll. Whilst Jade said she didn't think she had relapsed at the time, she admitted that looking back at old photos she can see she was 'very very thin'. She credits boyfriend Jordan Stephens from Rizzle Kicks for helping her focus on her health and happiness and earlier this year described him as 'The One' She explained: 'Historically, if I've ever felt that something is out of my control, then restricting food has been a means of controlling my life in a very toxic way.' Now, as she prepares for the release of her debut solo album, Jade says she is focused on her health, happiness and music. At home in south-east London, she shares a house with boyfriend Jordan Stephens of Rizzle Kicks and her best friend Holly. Jade has been dating Jordan for five years and earlier this year revealed on Louis Theroux's podcast that she realised he was 'the one' when he bought her a pasty from Greggs to lift her spirits after Jesy left the band. Reflecting on the shock exit from Little Mix in 2020, Jade said that she 'broke down in tears,' after hearing the news and Jordan's response was to fetch her a treat from the bakery chain. She said: 'We were driving up North to see my family. I just wailed and wailed for an hour or something. 'We parked up at services and he was like, ''do you want some peace?''. And I was like, ''yes''.' 'That's when I knew he was a keeper because he was like, ''are you alright on your own for a little bit?''. I mean, I couldn't actually speak. So I was screaming. 'And then he went out into the shops and he came back with a pasty from Greggs and I thought, ''that's the one''.'
