Maine boy Deven Young, 17, accused of murdering female paddleboarder, 48, 'was a bully at school'
A teenage boy arrested for brutally murdering a female paddleboarder was known by his classmates to be a 'bully' at school, it has emerged. Deven Young, 17, was taken into custody last Wednesday night and charged with beating and strangling Sunshine Stewart, 48, to death in Union, Maine. Her body was found on July 3. The murder came hours after Stewart set off alone to paddleboard on Crawford Pond, a popular recreation spot near the campground where she was staying. Now, people who grew up with Young have spoken out about what he was really like. One childhood friend said Young had bullied kids since preschool, and two other people who knew him said – in separate interviews – that the accused murderer would regularly get in trouble for fighting, according to Bangor Daily News. Another classmate, however, said he never saw Young bully people himself. Jaxon Mushero, 18, a friend of Young's who knew him since they met in third grade at Leroy H. Smith School in Winterport, said they talked on the phone in June. He said Young seemed 'a little off' during the call – but not to a concerning degree. Speaking about the charges brought against Young, Mushero said: 'Just finding out, seeing that just shocks me. It really does. That was my childhood best friend. I grew up with him.' Young is charged with murder as a juvenile in Knox County. Court documents obtained by Maine's Total Coverage state that Young 'did intentionally or knowingly cause the death of another human being, namely Sunshine Stewart, or did engage in conduct that manifested a depraved indifference to the value of human life and which in fact caused the death of Sunshine Stewart.' Young appeared in a Knox County courtroom on Friday morning via Zoom, where he denied responsibility for Stewart's death. Meanwhile, the Office of the Maine Attorney General has filed a motion for Young, who will turn 18 in September, to be tried as an adult. If Young's case remains in juvenile court and he is convicted, his sentence cannot exceed his 21st birthday. However, if the case goes to adult court and he is convicted, he faces at least 25 years in prison. The teenager spends vacation time in the Crawford Pond area each summer with his family, an official familiar with the investigation told ABC News. Young's home in Frankfort is approximately 38 miles from the pond. Stewart rented a camp site at Mic Mac Family Campground in Crawford Pond for the summer season on May 1. She had only stayed on the camp grounds for two or three nights before she disappeared on July 2, after last being seen leaving her camper to go paddleboarding at around 6pm. Any connection between Stewart and Young are not known. News of the murder left locals in the tight–knit community of Union terrified. Meredith Smith, a childhood friend of Stewart's, told the Daily Mail she was shocked by the news of Young's arrest. 'Part of me is relieved that someone has been arrested, but the other part says this is far from over because I feel like there's still so much more to this story that we don't know,' said Smith. 'Sunshine was strong and feisty; she would've put up a fight... she would've given this person hell.' When Stewart – a marine biologist, lobsterman, bartender, and boat captain – had still not returned by the early hours of July 3, someone raised the alarm. Before dawn broke, a search and rescue drone spotted Stewart's paddleboard drifting alone. Her body was later discovered along the southeast shore of 100 Acre Island, a nature preserve in the middle of the pond. Police have not confirmed any details of how Stewart's body was found, or in what condition, sharing only that the circumstances were 'unusual.' For now, Young was ordered to continue to be detained at Long Creek Youth Correctional Facility in South Portland. The 17-year-old is scheduled to appear in court again on August 22.

The bloodcurdling words screamed over 911 call as American Idol producer Robin Kaye and husband were murdered
A 911 caller was heard begging 'please don't shoot me' during the home invasion that ended with the fatal shooting of an American Idol producer and her husband. Robin Kaye, a longtime music supervisor on the hit singing competition show, and her husband Thomas Deluca, both 70, were found dead in their $5million gated home in Los Angeles ' ritzy Encino neighborhood on July 14. Raymond Boodarian, an Encino resident, was later arrested 'without incident' after having allegedly called police and provided authorities with his name. Investigators believe Boodarian, 22, was burglarizing the residence July 10 while the couple was away and shot them when they suddenly returned. Police received two burglary calls at the couple's home the day they were killed, according to a search warrant affidavit obtained by the Los Angeles Times. The first call came in shortly after 4pm in which a neighbor reported that an unknown man was trying to break into the residence. Police received a second call roughly 40 minutes later from someone inside the property claiming to be a resident. The caller alleged that someone had broken in and could be heard begging another person not to shoot them. The caller, whose identity is not clear, later advised dispatch that officer response was unnecessary, the affidavit claims. Additional attempts to reach the caller were unsuccessful. The search warrant does not specify if the call was made from one of the victims or if it came from Boodarian pretending to be a resident. LA County DA Nathan Hochman revealed during a town hall Monday the suspect used his personal cellphone to call police after the incident, which ultimately led to him being tracked down. 'Mr. Boodarian got caught because he used his cellphone to contact police concerning this situation,' Hochman told the meeting, NBC 4 reports. 'He actually identified himself.' Boodarian had already been inside the couple's home for about 30 minutes on July 10 when Kaye and Deluca unexpectedly arrived home. CCTV footage obtained by investigators allegedly shows the suspect entering the home in an attempted burglary. He did not force entry and instead found an open way to get inside. He allegedly shot the couple dead with their own firearm during a struggle when they caught him in the act. The couple's bodies were discovered in the $5million mansion four days later after officers carried out a welfare check. Boodraian was arrested on July 15 and charged with two counts of murder two days later. He also faces burglary charges. His arraignment is scheduled for August 20. The suspect has at least three prior arrests including charges of battery, threatening to commit a crime with intent to terrorize, and exhibiting a deadly weapon. Fingerprints from his previous arrests also helped investigators identify him as a suspect in the grisly killings of Kaye and Deluca. Officers responded to the residence on the day of their slayings, but were unable to get inside the couple's high-security property which is guarded with an 8-foot spiked wall and surveillance cameras. Cops circled the perimeter and had a helicopter swoop over the property, but were unable to gain access via the ground. Officers saw no visible signs of forced entry and the chopper flying overhead did not alert officers to any dangers, so they left the scene. Police sources allege Boodarian was likely inside the property as officers responded to the residence on July 10. Boodarian is believed to have entered through a single unlocked door while his alleged victims were out grocery shopping. It is unclear if he pulled the door shut behind him, but he is then said to have laid in wait inside until they returned. They returned to the six-bedroom estate four days later at 2.30pm following a call for a welfare check, shattering a back window to gain access to the home. When they entered, they discovered Kaye and Deluca both shot in the head. He then used his personal cellphone to call police after the incident and even provided authorities with his name, which ultimately led to him being tracked down Kaye was with American Idol for more than 15 years and was working on the upcoming season at the time of her death. Over the years, she won several Guild of Music Supervisors Awards for her work on the show. She also worked for other well-known shows, including Lip Sync Battle, Hollywood Game Night, and Worn Stories. Kaye worked for the NAACP Image Awards, The Singing Bee, Miss USA, Miss Universe, American Inventor, The Dance Scene, Dance Your A** Off, Your Chance to Dance and Adventures of Power and Crashed. During the 7th Annual Guild of Music Supervisors Awards in Hollywood in 2017, Kaye spoke about her career path, which she said was often unappreciated. 'It's one of those parts of the business that people don't even know it exists,' Kaye said. 'It's a very important part of films and TV. Pretty much everything in the entertainment industry has music in it and people just think that it's there.' Her husband was a musician who last released an album called Street Rock in 2022. His first 'acclaimed cult favorite debut' album, 'Down To The Wire,' was released by Epic Records in 1986, Deluca's website detailed. Deluca penned songs for popular hit makers, including Kid Rock, the band Molly Hatchet and Meredith Brooks. The couple purchased the home in January 2023, according to public records. It was previously owned by late rapper Juice WRLD who died in 2019 from an overdose, neighbors told KTLA. The home was also reportedly used a rental property before being sold to the couple.

Ghislaine Maxwell's brother thanks Donald Trump for his ‘positive statement' about his sister in 2020
Ian Maxwell, the brother of jailed Jeffrey Epstein accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell, has thanked President Donald Trump for making a 'positive statement' about his sister in 2020 and showing her 'humanity.' Appearing on Piers Morgan Uncensored on Tuesday to discuss the revived furore over Epstein after Trump's Justice Department said that no 'client list' belonging to the late billionaire pedophile existed, Ian Maxwell once more defended Ghislaine, who was jailed in 2022 for her role in the disgraced financier's sex trafficking operation. Asked by Morgan whether she had 'pulled the wool over your eyes' regarding her involvement in Epstein's crimes, Maxwell responded: 'No, I believe my sister. 'I've known her [for] 60 years, Piers. You know, I'm not going to suddenly say she started pulling the wool. I don't think so. I don't believe so. Not for a second.' Pivoting to Trump, Maxwell said: 'President Trump was asked the only time, I believe, in public – at the tail end of his presidency, so, you know, November, December 2021 [sic] – about Ghislaine and he said, 'You know, I don't know much about it, but I wish her well.' 'And I don't think that anyone else showed the slightest piece of humanity, not anybody at that time, and yet he did. He didn't need to. He's the president of the United States, the most powerful man in the world. He could've just sloughed it off. He didn't. He made a positive statement. I am very grateful to that and I know Ghislaine was too.' The comment Maxwell referred to was actually made by Trump in July 2020 when Ghislaine was arrested and charged with sex trafficking. 'I haven't really been following it too much,' the president said at the time. 'I just wish her well, frankly. I've met her numerous times over the years, especially since I lived in Palm Beach. And I guess they lived in Palm Beach. But I wish her well.' Asked about it a month later by then-Axios reporter Jonathan Swan, Trump doubled down and said: 'I wish her well, I'd wish you well, I'd wish a lot of people well. Good luck. Let them prove somebody was guilty. 'Her boyfriend died in jail and people are still trying to figure out how did it happen? Was it suicide? Was he killed? And I do wish her well. I'm not looking for anything bad for her. I'm not looking bad for anybody.' The president remains under pressure to explain his past friendship with Epstein after the Justice Department's attempt to draw a line under the case sparked an angry backlash from his own supporters, with many pointing to Attorney General Pam Bondi 's declaration earlier this year that his case file was 'sitting on my desk waiting to be reviewed' as suggesting its release was imminent. Archive photos and video indicate that Trump and Epstein knew each other socially in New York and Florida from the 1980s to the early 2000s, and the president is on record as praising the abuser as a 'terrific guy.' However, he has since distanced himself and is currently suing The Wall Street Journal for alleging that he once sent him a lewd hand-drawn birthday card. The president has tried hard to change the narrative over the last two weeks, attacking numerous old foes on social media in scattergun fashion, rebuking his own 'past' supporters for dwelling on the subject, and complaining to the press at a recent cabinet meeting: 'Are you still talking about Jeffrey Epstein? This guy's been talked about for years. Are people still talking about this guy, this creep?' Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche announced on Tuesday that, at the direction of AG Bondi, he had contacted Ghislaine's legal counsel about arranging an interview with her and declared: 'No one is above the law – and no lead is off-limits.' Trump signaled his approval of that step in the Oval Office shortly afterwards, saying it 'sounded appropriate.' Meanwhile, a panel of judges has ruled that more information is needed before they can rule on the release of grand jury testimony related to Epstein, and House Speaker Mike Johnson has declined to hold a House vote on whether to order the release of all federal files on him until after Congress's summer recess.
