Emmerdale fans confused over missing character: ‘Can someone explain?'

Metro09-05-2025

Emmerdale fans have been left baffled after an integral character was missing from a recent episode.
Last night's scenes saw some of the villagers gather at home Farm to celebrate Lydia Dingle's (Karen Blick) 50th birthday, but the birthday girl herself was nowhere to be seen.
As the celebrations kicked off, Sam Dingle (James Hooton) was disappointed to learn that Lydia was having car trouble and was delayed in getting to the event.
Taking to social media, fans couldn't believe that Lydia wasn't in the episode that was centred around her big day.
'Can someone explain to me why Lydia isn't even at her own 50th?' One fan wrote on Twitter/X, while another questioned: 'Where the bloody hell is Lydia and why does no one care?'
'Where is Lydia though?' A third asked, while a fourth added: 'Is Lydia the Birthday girl going to appear?' More Trending
Another fan found the situation hilarious, writing: 'The true winner of this party is Lydia [because] imagine being so iconic that your 50th was talked about and you weren't even there.'
Lydia missed out on all the drama by not being at her own party, as Joe Tate's (Ned Porteous) secrets and lies were exposed to the shocked guests.
In true Emmerdale fashion, the episode ended with Joe in a bad way after being pushed out of a window – but who did the deed?

Vicki takes action to keep EastEnders abuser Joel out of jail after assault

Vicki Fowler (Alice Haig) makes it her mission to protect Joel Marshall (Max Murray) after his commits another sex offence in EastEnders next week. As viewers of the BBC One soap have seen, Joel is deeply troubled, and is the reason his family were forced to flee from Australia. After upskirting a school mate, his dad Ross (Alex Walkinshaw) coughed up a whopping $50,000 to keep the girl's silence, but her family also demanded that they leave the country. Since settling in Walford, it seems that his behaviour hasn't changed. Not only has he introduced naïve Tommy Moon (Sonny Kendall) to pornography, but he also decided to record sexual content of his own. Growing closer to Avani Nandra-Hart (Aaliyah James), he secretly filmed them having sex – a video which a horrified Ross later discovered on his son's phone. In upcoming scenes, his behaviour worsens, despite demands from both Ross and Vicki for him to change his ways. Having spent the day with Tommy, the lads board an underground train and Joel decides to entwine him further into a web of misbehaviour. He pulls out his phone, and instructs Tommy to start recording. Stumbling through the carriage, he pretends to fall on a fellow passenger named Isla, who he goes onto touch inappropriately. Tommy is stunned by what he sees, as a terrified Isla rushes to report him to the police that are present in the tube station. Joel is apprehended and hauled in for questioning – just as Ross and Vicki witness what is happening. Down at the cop shop, Ross demands answers from the teen, as Vicki corners Isla and tries to comfort her. Vicki is supportive of the girl's decision to report Joel, and hopes that it will be the kick he needs to stop his alarming behaviour patterns. She then passes on her number in case she needs anything further from the family. Later that night, she comes up with a cunning plan, inspired by Ross' actions Down Under. More Trending Tommy's mum Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace) has her own concerns about Joel's influence over her son, but it soon becomes clear that Vicki is the one who she should be worried about. When Joel makes attempts at reconciling with his mate, Tommy is left shaken by an ultimatum from Vicki. She warns that unless he keeps his mouth shut, she will implicate him in the crime. Coronation Street star reacts to major show change and teases 'exciting' twists

Coronation Street's Amy Barlow actress Elle Mulvaney has had her say on the schedule shake-up set to come into effect on the ITV soap in 2026, and she also teased the 65th anniversary One Coronation Street favourite has revealed all on a major change coming for the ITV soap. She also teased some "exciting" moments ahead, a possible romance for her character and hinted at the soap's 65th anniversary later this year. Amy Barlow actress Elle Mulvaney spoke exclusively to The Mirror about what was coming on the show for her character and others. ‌ She addressed hopes from fans for Amy and close pal Aadi Alahan to finally get together, after a near romance months earlier. When asked about the Emmerdale crossover, she promised fans it would be "unreal" while she also teased "exciting" 65th anniversary episodes later in the year. ‌ While Elle is yet to find out much of what's ahead, the stuff she does know will be kept under wraps for the time being. But it's safe to say there's good stuff ahead for Amy, while the actress did have her say on the news that from January 2026, the show will be on every night and will transmit shorter episodes. Some viewers had been worried about the news, but Elle says it's a good change-up as she recalled it was this way not too long ago. She told us: "I think it's exciting. Obviously we used to be five episodes not massively long ago so I don't think it is gonna be that different. "I almost feel like viewers will be getting more in a way because it will be on every single night. It's just a big change isn't it." Elle also shared her thoughts on the crossover, hoping to be involved as Corrie and Emmerdale unite. She said: "Oh my God, we are absolutely ecstatic about it. We cannot wait to know about it all, it's gonna be unreal. If you are a fan of both shows then this is a dream come true. "I mean hopefully I'll be involved. We will have to wait and see! You have got to remember that we both have got such massive casts so it will be a case of how many people can you fit into one episode, but we'll see! Hopefully I'm in it." ‌ She also remained coy about what she did or didn't know about the looming celebrations for the show's 65th, while one cast member teased the focus would mainly be on the crossover. Elle told us: "I'm excited to find out the details but I can't say anything!" Finally, Elle teased that things may be revisited for Amy and Aadi after their near-romance and their clear feelings for one another. She hinted: "For Amy we will definitely see more family things going on ahead, with the dynamics changing with both her parents having split again. "There is all of that going on and in Amy's love life, we might see some changes there so there's definitely a lot to come up." She added when asked about Aadi: "That's it, I think it will be a will they won't they situation but you will have to watch and see!"

Peter Kay announces very different project away from stage after bullying claims

Comedian Peter Kay has announced a very different new project after being hit with bullying claims on his UK tour when he decided to boot hecklers out of his show Peter Kay is ready to take on a new challenge as he has revealed his new project away from his mammoth tour. The comedian, 51, recently returned to the spotlight and has been performing his act in arenas up and down the country. Earlier this year, Peter hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons as he was filmed kicking a heckler out of his show. He halted his performance and had security remove a number of fans after claiming they were spoiling the show for the rest of the attendees. ‌ However, after he labelled one ejected fan " Lisa Riley" and the remark caused a scandal, with the heckler claiming Peter was a "bully". Now, it seems Peter is ready to turn the page on the drama as he sets his sights on a very different career. ‌ Peter has revealed he has put pen to paper and promises to detail his life in his most personal book yet. In true Peter style, the book hilariously nods to Bridget Jones' Diary, as the comedian's face sits on top of the iconic character. Announcing the news, he said: "Introducing… Peter Kay's Diary: The Monthly Memoir of a Boy from Bolton, Peter's most personal and hilarious book yet. Join Peter for a laugh-out-loud journey through his life, month by month." A teaser for the book added: "Think of this autobiography as a twelve-month subscription to my memories and meanderings across the calendar year. With each month reflecting a different phase of my life, complete with dodgy decisions, bizarre plot twists and more than a few laugh-out-loud moments." Back in February, Peter dealt with hecklers at his Better Late Than Never... Again! gig at Manchester's AO Arena - but things didn't quite go as he'd planned. While he said it wasn't an insult, and Lisa herself acknowledged there was no ill-meaning, the woman in question fumed that the star had humiliated her. "Go on, off you go, Lisa Riley," Peter had jibed, making a comparison to the former Emmerdale actress. Shortly after his remark on his decision to eject the fan in Manchester, Peter opened up on the incident on Good Morning Britain. ‌ "I didn't realise it was an insult," he said. "She did look remarkably like Lisa Riley, I didn't realise that was an insult." But despite his insistence there was no dig meant, the woman in question revealed she was mortified. Myar Curran accused the star of being a "bully". Speaking herself on the ITV show, Myar said: "I didn't mean to cause any harm, I was just showing my love as he kicked someone out, but he obviously didn't like it." She added: "I feel like what I said was not abusive or aggressive - it wasn't anti-social and I wasn't drunk. I was just standing u,p chanting 'we love you Peter, we do'. It's just been a bit over the top, his reaction." ‌ A month later, Peter threatened to kick even more audience members out of his show at London's O2 Arena. Brushing off the previous backlash, he poked fun at the criticism he faced as he once again halted his show to make an example of one of his fans. Addressing the crowds, he asked: "Is it them in that box? Is that them? Who is it? Eh, it's you monkeys there. Now then, what are we going to do with you now? These people in this area now, do any of you look like Lisa Riley? No, alright," he joked as the crowd erupted into laughter. Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, an audience member said: "Peter waded in as the crowd was audibly kicking off due to some disagreement in the crowd. He poked fun at the idea of kicking them out, then dished out the issue to his security. "But he did reference it again twice in the show as they kept shouting, comparing it to a 'boot sale' at one point. It seemed like the audience in the area wanted him to kick the person out due to all the drama."
