Premier League matches to be preceded by silence in memory of Diogo Jota
The league has spoken to Liverpool about the most appropriate way to remember the Portuguese star, who was killed in a car crash alongside his brother on 3 July in Spain.
As well as a period of silence prior to kick-off in the matches, players of all clubs will be given black armbands while messaging and imagery will be shared with clubs for them to use on big screens.

Tributes were paid to the brothers prior to last Sunday's Community Shield between Liverpool and Crystal Palace at Wembley, with wreaths laid on the pitch and a period of silence before kick-off.
A minority of Eagles fans broke the silence, eliciting a strong response at the other end of the pitch, as well as from other Eagles supporters who tried to silence those not respecting the tribute.
Reds head coach Arne Slot said: 'I don't think this was planned, or that this was the idea of the fan that made some noise. Maybe he wasn't aware of the fact that it was the minute of silence.
'He was just still happy and tried to cheer for his team. And I think then the fans of Palace were trying to calm that person or those persons down, so I don't think he had a bad intention, the guy or people that made noise.
'They tried to calm him down, but that was a bit noisy as well. And then our fans reacted, 'Hey, what's happening here?'.
'So I don't think there's a bad intention to it, because the fans of Crystal Palace and everywhere around the world have paid huge respect to Diogo and Andre and this was, I think, unlucky or, I can't find the right words, but I don't think there was a bad intention in it.'
Liverpool fans earlier paid their respects with a rousing rendition of 'You'll Never Walk Alone' as the wreaths were brought out, raising a white banner reading 'Diogo J' and featuring the forward's image and number 20.
The club's record goalscorer Ian Rush, Palace chairman Steve Parish and Football Association chair Debbie Hewitt laid the wreaths in the Liverpool end as fans from both sides showed their respect with a standing ovation as the siblings' images were displayed on the big screens inside the stadium.
Liverpool have retired Jota's number 20 shirt in tribute to the player.

Watch: Peter Crouch legs it from TNT desk to catch Oasis in Dublin
The Premier League may have begun this weekend but all anyone can think about in Ireland is Oasis playing in Dublin tonight. The band continue their reunion tour in Croke Park as they are set to perform in front of two sold-out crowds this weekend in the first shows in Ireland since 2009. It's been the hottest ticket in town for a while now and it's been a much sought after one as no one wants to miss the Gallagher brothers reunite, including Premier League legend Peter Crouch. Peter Crouch. Pic: Neal Simpson/Sportsphoto/Allstar via Getty Images The ex-Liverpool man was on the job for TNT Sports as one of his former sides Aston Villa took on Newcastle United in both sides' opening game of the Premier League season. It wasn't a game to write home about as despite Ezri Konsa getting a straight red card for the Villains, neither side really had many chances in what was a drab 0-0 at Villa Park. It was still however a good point for Newcastle, who are still in the midst of the Alexander Isak transfer debacle as the Swede is looking to leave Tyneside for Liverpool. Pic: @footballontnt/ X After all the post-match festivites and interviews the TNT broadcast was coming towards an end when Peter Crouch started to look a bit nervy, especially when host Lynsey Hipgrave teased that they could go on for a but longer. Hipgrave said; 'That's about all we've got time for, oh actually sorry my producer is just telling me we have got a lot more time, he said we can carry on talking.' Crouch replied; 'Lynsey, you know I'm going to Oasis tonight, it's not happening.' Pic: @footballontnt/X Hipgrave questioned Crouch 'Where you going?' But Crouch had no time for any messing around, revealing he was heading to Dublin to see Oasis. 'I'm going to Oasis, I've got a flight to catch'

Man arrested after Bournemouth's Semenyo reports racist abuse in Liverpool match
A MAN HAS been arrested following reports that a Bournemouth football player was racially abused during the first Premier League game of the season. Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo reported being racially abused by a spectator during the opening match against Liverpool. Match referee Anthony Taylor stopped play in the 29th minute on Friday and a man, 47, was ejected from Anfield stadium. A 47-year-old man from Liverpool was arrested on Saturday on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence and has been taken into custody to be interviewed, Merseyside Police said. Semenyo scored twice in the second half to help bring Bournemouth back from two goals down at Anfield before Liverpool went on to eventually win the contest 4-2. The following day, the 25-year-old forward said on social media: 'Last night at Anfield will stay with me forever – not because of one person's words, but because of how the entire football family stood together.' He thanked his teammates, Liverpool players and fans 'who showed their true character', and the Premier League officials 'who handled it professionally'. Semenyo continued: 'Scoring those two goals felt like speaking the only language that truly matters on the pitch. This is why I play – for moments like these, for my teammates, for everyone who believes in what this beautiful game can be. Advertisement 'The overwhelming messages of support from across the football world remind me why I love this sport. We keep moving forward, together.' During the match, Semenyo spoke to managers Arne Slot and Andoni Iraola before the two captains Virgil van Dijk and Adam Smith were called over to the dug-outs. Alamy Stock Photo Alamy Stock Photo An anti-discrimination message was read out to the Anfield crowd, and it is understood that police officers went into the referee's room at half-time. The incident came two days after Tottenham Hotspur player Mathys Tel received racist abuse online after missing a penalty in his side's Uefa Super Cup win against Paris Saint-Germain. Liverpool captain van Dijk labelled the reported abuse aimed at Semenyo as a 'disgrace'. He agreed it was symptomatic of a wider problem not restricted to football, but said greater attempts had to be made to change the mindset. Campaigns such as taking the knee and Kick It Out have not been able to eradicate the issue, he added. Van Dijk said: 'What else can we do? Because this is the very odd one (case) that has managed to say something that is obviously a disgrace. 'The only thing we can do is deal with it by dealing with him personally and try to educate the next generation. That is the only way to try and kick it out, in my opinion. 'I can't believe it. These things shouldn't happen but unfortunately it does and it is an absolute disgrace in my eyes. 'First and foremost these things should never happen in the world, not only football. I am happy to say I don't see it happening up until today actually. 'But in general racism is not of this world in my opinion, but if we are to be realistic, unfortunately, it still exists and that is the painful side of it. 'We have to deal with it in the here and now.' Chief Inspector Kev Chatterton, match commander for the Liverpool versus Bournemouth game, said on Friday: 'Merseyside Police will not tolerate hate crime of any form.' 'We take incidents like this very seriously, and in cases like this we will be proactively seeking football banning orders, with the club, against those responsible.' He added: 'There is no place for racism and it is vital that anyone who witnesses such an offence reports it to stewards, or the police, immediately so we can take the necessary action like we did this evening. 'As with all matches, we work very closely with both Liverpool and Everton FC to ensure the safety of the public and the players.' A spokesperson for Liverpool Football Club said it is aware of the allegation of racist abuse and that 'we condemn racism and discrimination in all forms, it has no place in society, or football'. The Football Association said it was 'concerned' about the allegation of racism towards Semenyo and that it would ensure 'appropriate action' would be taken.

Chelsea close in on €69 million-rated Dutch international, Eze set for Spurs move
Updated at 17.32 CHELSEA TRANSFER target Xavi Simons is only interested in moving to Stamford Bridge despite a reported attempt by Bayern Munich to hijack the deal, the PA news agency understands. Talks have been ongoing with RB Leipzig all summer over a move for the Netherlands international as the Blues look to wrap up what would be a ninth first-team signing. Whilst an agreement is yet to be reached between the clubs, PA understands that the 22-year-old, who has won 28 international caps and scored in his country's Euro 2024 semi-final defeat to England, is not moved by interest from the Bundesliga champions and has his heart set on a move to west London. Advertisement Leipzig had been keen on bringing back Christopher Nkunku after a disappointing two years at Chelsea, that have been badly hampered by injury, but it is understood the France international does not want to return to his former club, quashing any chance he could be used as a makeweight in a deal for Simons. Simons, who is reportedly valued at around £60 million (€69 million) can play either as an attacking midfielder or on the wing and is a potentially more flexible attacking option than Nkunku, as Enzo Maresca seeks to complete the revamp of his forward line following the acquisitions of Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund, Brazilian winger Estevao Willian and strikers Liam Delap and Joao Pedro. Joao Felix and Noni Madueke have already been moved on this summer, with Nkunku set to follow them after Maresca decided there was no place for the 27-year-old in his plans for the new season. Alamy Stock Photo Alamy Stock Photo Meanwhile, Eberechi Eze is understood to be closing in on a move to Tottenham. The PA news agency understands the England international has reached an agreement with his current club, Crystal Palace, that he will not play for them at Chelsea on Sunday. Eze was a critical player as Palace won the FA Cup last season and also featured as the Eagles saw off Liverpool to lift the Community Shield last weekend. The 27-year-old — who has long been linked with a move across London — joined Palace in 2020 from QPR and has gone on to win 11 England caps.
