Stolen vehicles worth R1.4 million recovered in Limpopo
The coordinated efforts involved the SAPS Anti-Smuggling Team, Tshimollo Security and Investigation, and Reflex Anti-Hijacking Security.
According to South African Police Services, officers intercepted a Toyota Hilux GD6 double cab on the R101 near the Polokwane weighbridge.
One male suspect fled into nearby bushes, and police apprehended two female suspects, aged 19 and 20, after a foot chase.
Police arrested both suspects and charged them with possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle.
Investigators confirmed that someone had reported the vehicle stolen on Friday, 16 May 2025, in the Garsfontein policing area in Pretoria.
In a separate intelligence-led operation, officers intercepted a Toyota Corolla Cross in Mokopane's CBD. The vehicle was also en route to the Beitbridge Port of Entry.
SAPS confirmed that someone had reported the vehicle stolen in the Wierdabrug policing area on Friday 16 May.
Police arrested the driver, a 34-year-old undocumented foreign national, on the scene.
The Polokwane Magistrate's Court will hear the case against the two female suspects on Tuesday, 20 May 2025.
The male suspect arrested in Mokopane will appear before the Mokopane Magistrate's Court on the same day.
The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe praised the operational teams for their swift and coordinated action. Which led to the successful recovery of the stolen vehicles.

'An urgent anti-smuggling operation was activated by the Limpopo Tracking Team with support from Tracker SA, Mighty Anti-Hijacking Security, Willie K9 Security, ELit Security, Limpopo Anti-Hijacking Security, and Tshimollo Security and Investigation. The vehicle was spotted on the N1 near Botlokwa, where members swiftly intercepted it. Two South African men, aged 31 and 44, were arrested for possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle,' Mashaba said. He added that quick coordination prevented the vehicle from being smuggled across the border. 'The vehicle has been impounded for further investigation and the suspects will appear before the Sekgosese Magistrate's Court on Monday (August 18).' The provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe praised the teamwork, saying it showed the value of strong partnerships between SAPS and the private security sector in tackling cross-border vehicle crime.

Compensation Fund: When will payment delays end?
The Compensation Fund implemented a new banking system in an effort to fight fraud and corruption. The department of employment and labour is experiencing delays in the processing of Compensation Fund payments. The department apologised that beneficiaries, employers and service providers could expect delays in services. Years of adverse findings by the Auditor General of South Africa (AG) have necessitated a restructuring of systems and a period of stabilisation at the Compensation Fund. 'Temporary delays' A new banking system was recently implemented at the Compensation Fund in an effort to institute reforms recommended by the AG. 'While this initiative is essential for improving the efficiency, security and accuracy of our financial systems in the long term, we are experiencing temporary delays in payment processing as the systems are being integrated and stabilised,' a notice signed by acting fund commissioner Farzana Fakir said. 'Our teams are working closely with the relevant technical and banking partners to resolve these delays as quickly and efficiently as possible.' The department said delays were being experienced in the allocation of contributions paid into the new bank account, causing an inability to generate letters of good standing. 'Stakeholders may experience extending extended processing times for beneifit disbursements, medical services payments and refunders,' the notice said. Compensation fund problems Among other services, the fund pays pensions to the dependants of workers killed or maimed while working – a sum of at least R1.4 billion annually. Fakir appeared before a parliamentary portfolio committee in March where she answered questions about what the AG described as 'a total breakdown in internal controls'. The acting commissioner has been tasked with rooting out fraud and implementing sound financial practices at the fund. The scale of the project was immense, with the fund only this past financial year able to present a set of financial statements after years of failing to do so. Suspect arrested after murder of partner and rape of stepdaughter
A 33-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly murdering his 36-year-old partner and raping his 16-year-old stepdaughter in Vhembe District, Limpopo. The suspect allegedly murdered the woman and disposed of her body in a pit toilet at a local school. He remains in police custody and is expected to appear in court soon to face rape and murder charges. Limpopo police commissioner Lt-Gen Thembi Hadebe expressed outrage at the incident, particularly during Women's Month. 'This crime represents the worst of gender-based violence. A man who was supposed to protect his family instead became their worst nightmare. That he would murder a woman and rape her teenage daughter shows the depths of depravity we are fighting,' said Hadebe. Police spokesperson Col Malesela Ledwaba said on Sunday at about 2am the suspect allegedly woke the teenager, claiming they needed to search for her mother at taverns in Mundzedzi village. The woman was last seen on Saturday at a local tavern. Ledwaba said after failing to locate the mother, the suspect led the minor to bushes next to the cemetery in Vleifontein where he allegedly raped her. 'The suspect instructed the traumatised teenager to return home. The victim immediately reported the rape to a community member, who contacted police,' he said. The man was arrested after a case of rape was opened and a manhunt launched. Ledwaba said during questioning on Monday, investigators discovered the suspect had allegedly murdered the missing woman and disposed of her body in a pit toilet at a school.
