Iraq's Ministry of Interior upgrades Emergency Response with Hytera SmartOne Platform
The landmark project, launched in 2024, introduces a centralised 911 emergency call centre—marking a pivotal advancement in public safety communications for Iraq's capital city.
Previously reliant on a fragmented network of 26 separate emergency numbers, the MOI sought to unify these under a single, cohesive emergency response system. Hytera's SmartOne solution integrates various communication technologies—ranging from DMR and TETRA radio systems to body camera feeds—into one platform, enabling seamless coordination between police, fire, and medical services across Baghdad.
The solution includes a fully integrated 911 call centre with over 300 operator seats. The platform supports emergency call intake, case creation, real-time situational tracking, and dispatch across multiple agencies. The implementation also features advanced modules such as computer-aided dispatch (CAD), visualised command and GIS mapping, duty and patrol management, incident analytics, and mobile police applications. Together, these tools significantly improve situational awareness, optimize resource allocation, and reduce emergency response times.
'This project, which is the first of its kind in Iraq, represents a quality move in digital transformation and modern communications, enforcement of security and the provision of legal and humanitarian services', said Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani.
The system's microservice-based architecture ensures high scalability and resilience, while its data-driven backend allows the MOI to continuously evaluate performance through call logs, incident trends, and proactive alerts. These features enable informed decision-making and adaptive strategy development in response to the city's evolving safety needs.
Since its launch, the platform has demonstrated impressive capability, handling approximately 100,000 calls on its first day of operation. The new 911 infrastructure sets a precedent for conflict-affected regions aiming to modernize their emergency response systems through integrated technology.
Notably, this project has been shortlisted by the International Critical Communications Awards (ICCAs) 2025 as a finalist for the Best Use of Critical Communications in Public Safety award. The nomination highlights the transformative impact of this initiative on public safety communications and further underscores the project's international recognition for excellence.

RIYADH — Saudi Arabia's video game sector has seen remarkable growth over the past two years, with imports of video game consoles reaching over 2.4 million units in 2024 and 2025, according to data from the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority. The report showed that the percentage of smart device use among females reached 28.5 percent compared to 21 percent among males, while PlayStation devices achieved a percentage of 30.2 among males compared to 15.1 percent among females.. The report indicated that PlayStation topped the list of games used by the 10-19 age group, with 54.8 percent of the users, while smart devices topped the list for the remaining age groups: 20-29 age group with 30.8 percent; followed by the 30-39 age group with 23.8 percent; the 40-49 age group with 15.3 percent; 8.7 percent for the 50-59 age group, and 5 percent for the 60-74 age group. The report also revealed the most downloaded electronic games on smart devices in the Kingdom, with Whiteout Survival coming in first place, followed by Roblox in second place, Subway Surfers in third place, PUBG Mobile in fourth place, and Garena Free Fire in fifth place. These indicators confirm that the Kingdom has become a leading regional and international destination for hosting major e-Sports events, supported by its technical infrastructure and ongoing investments in the sector, as part of the Kingdom's Vision 2030 goals to diversify the economy and promote digital industries. The Esports World Cup, which is being held in Riyadh from July 7 to August 24, reinforces the Kingdom's growing role as a global gaming hub, the report pointed out. The event features over 2,000 players from more than 100 countries competing for prizes exceeding $70 million, solidifying Saudi Arabia's position in the global gaming and e-sports scene.

PBC-DNE holds dialogue with UAE Minister of State for Foreign Trade to discuss opportunities, support for Filipino business community
The Philippine Business Council – Dubai and Northern Emirates (PBC-DNE) held a high-level dialogue with His Excellency Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Trade, to explore ways to support the Filipino business community in the host country. PBC Chairwoman Evangeline 'Asiyah' Monjardin, along with the Board of Directors, Secretary General Arch. Wilfredo Llarena Jr., Trade & Compliance Director Mary Jane Alvero Almahdi, Director of Corporate Governance and Compliance Harold Grecia Orona, and Membership Director Shiela Pellano, attended the meeting to represent council members and affiliates, ensuring the interests of Filipino professionals and business owners were shared. Monjardin said the council presented its accomplishments over more than 100 days during the meeting, which provided an avenue for mutual collaboration. 'We had the opportunity to hear the ministry's plans, goals, and vision for the Filipino community, while also consolidating and presenting the priorities and opportunities identified by our members. The dialogue became a platform for us to voice our interest, share expectations, and encourage greater engagement between the Philippine business community and the UAE government,' Monjardin said in an interview with The Filipino Times . Among the topics discussed were the ongoing dialogue between the Philippine Government and the UAE Ministry of Foreign Trade to enhance bilateral trade relations, and the Ministry's willingness to support the PBC and the broader Filipino business community in navigating the UAE business landscape. Kuwait Allows Visa-on-Arrival for GCC Residents
Foreign residents in GCC member states can now receive a visa on arrival when entering Kuwait, according to the Ministry of Interior. This new policy applies to holders of valid residency permits from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Oman, Qatar, and Bahrain. Previously, these travelers were required to secure an e-visa before departure. Kuwait International Airport confirmed that eligible GCC residents — except Iraqi nationals — may obtain a three-month tourist visa at the airport's visa counter. To qualify, travelers must work in approved professions such as doctors, engineers, journalists, pilots, managers, business owners, and other specified roles. They must also hold a valid passport, a GCC residency permit with more than six months' validity, a return ticket, and must not be on Kuwait's blacklist. Applicants are also required to register their address in Kuwait during the visa application process at the airport. The change takes immediate effect. In July 2025, Kuwait launched a nationwide e-visa platform covering various visa types, and a unified GCC tourist visa — allowing travel to all six member countries — is expected to be introduced soon.
