21-mile highway shutdown delayed in central Kansas
MORRIS COUNTY (KSNT) – A road work project that would have created a nearly 70-mile detour in central Kansas is officially delayed. The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) announced on social media that a road work project set for K-177 Highway is delayed until next year. The project was originally set to start on June 16 and lead to the closure of 21 miles of K-177 between Strong City and Council Grove, creating a large detour route. Kansas firework stands will open for 9 extra days this year, here's why KDOT reported the replacement of the K-177 bridge over Fourmile Creek, part of the same overall project, is also delayed. Work on the bridge is currently set to begin in August 2025. Drivers were told to expect around 45 minutes of additional time on the road due to the shutdown of K-177. The purpose of the project is to reconstruct the highway People can view road work taking place in Kansas or that is scheduled to happen by heading to the KanDrive website, downloading the app or calling 511. KDOT changes weekend closure plans for I-135 in Wichita
WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) has updated its construction plans for Interstate 135 in north Wichita, scaling back a full weekend closure that was originally scheduled. Flooded in Butler County? Here's how to report damage Southbound I-135 will still close this weekend for pavement patching and barrier wall adjustments, but northbound lanes will remain open — a change from earlier announcements. The updated plan means that starting at 5 a.m. Saturday, June 7, southbound I-135 will close from the K-254 interchange to just past the K-96 interchange. Several ramps will also be closed, including: Westbound K-96 to southbound I-135 K-254 to southbound I-135 The loop ramp from southbound I-235 to North Broadway All affected lanes and ramps are expected to reopen by Sunday afternoon, June 8. A full closure of I-135 in both directions is now expected next weekend, on Saturday, June 14, to allow for additional pavement work and a bridge deck pour, weather permitting. Motorists are advised to follow posted detour signs, allow extra travel time, and use caution in the work zone. For real-time traffic updates, visit or call 5-1-1. KDOT says this change in schedule is meant to minimize traffic disruption while allowing construction crews to continue needed repairs.
