The
Deendayal Port Authority
(DPA) of Kandla set a new record by unloading 79,780 tonnes of
steam coal
from
MV KMAX RULER
in just 24 hours.
In a post on social media platform X, the DPA said that the record-breaking operation was carried out with the coordinated efforts of vessel agent
M/s Genesis Shipping
, stevedore M/s Shiv Shipping Services, and importer M/s Gallant Metals.
"Record Reloaded at DPA! In a stellar feat of efficiency, MV KMAX RULER unloaded 79,780 tons of Steam Coal in just 24 hours at Deendayal Port, Kandla -- setting a new benchmark!," the X post of Deendayal Port Authority added.
DPA has set ambitious targets after exceeding its own target of handling 150.16 million tonnes of cargo in the financial year 2024-25.

Speaking to in April this year, DPA Chairperson
Sushil Kumar Singh
said that the port aims to handle 170 million tonnes of cargo, representing a growth rate of over 10 per cent. This new target is expected to redistribute cargo volumes among other ports.
Kandla is a seaport in India situated in the Kachchh District of Gujarat.
Kandla Port
is the gateway port for states like Punjab, Haryana, Jammu, and Kashmir, as well as the rich industrial belt of West and North India.
Kandla Port, located on the Gulf of Kutch on the northwestern coast of India, was constructed in the 1950s after India's independence as the chief seaport serving western India.
According to its website, it is the largest port in India in terms of the volume of cargo handled. Deendayal Port Authority, India's busiest major port in recent years, is gearing up to add substantial
cargo handling capacity
with
private sector participation
.
The Union Government is actively working to enhance the capacity of the port. Earlier in the month, Prime Minister
Narendra Modi
virtually inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for several transformational projects of DPA, worth over Rs 1,100 crore. (ANI)

Maharashtra govt clears Rs 49 crore disaster aid; Vidarbha gets Rs 15 crore for post-disaster relief

Nagpur: In a major step towards expediting post-disaster relief, the Maharashtra govt approved Rs 49 crore to support victims of house collapses and damages caused by natural disasters. Of this, Vidarbha's Nagpur and Amravati divisions will receive Rs 10 crore and 5 crore respectively, enabling immediate assistance for house repairs and reconstruction. The Government Resolution (GR) of May 30, issued under the revenue and forest department, aims to speed up financial relief in the aftermath of natural calamities — cutting down the long wait for victims that typically follows the Panchnama process. The funds are allocated in accordance with the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) norms and will be disbursed via the BEAMS system. Apart from Vidarbha, significant allocations have also been made to other regions: Rs 12 crore each to Pune and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar divisions, Rs 5 crore to Konkan division, and Rs 5 crore to Nashik division. This move brings significant relief to disaster-prone parts of Vidarbha, particularly rural pockets where homes are often ill-equipped to withstand floods. Under the new mechanism, divisional commissioners will directly receive funds and are empowered to sanction aid without having to wait for centralised approval. This decentralisation is expected to improve efficiency and reduce bottlenecks. Funds will be tracked via the National Disaster Management Information System (NDMIS), ensuring transparency. Each division is required to update expenditure data monthly and submit utilisation certificates to the Accountant General and the state govt. For Vidarbha, where monsoons trigger localised flooding and structural damage in low-income settlements, the approved funds will help rebuild damaged homes before the next seasonal wave hits. Sources in the department said preparations are nearly complete for the upcoming monsoon to enable rapid deployment of aid as soon as severe weather strikes. This urgency is heightened by the early onset of the monsoon this year. Notably, Nagpur — which usually sees temperatures soaring above 45°C during this period — experienced heavy rains during Nautapa, an unusual shift that has put authorities on high alert. This decision was cleared following an informal agreement from the finance department dated May 30, 2025. WCL registers record profit before tax for fiscal ending March 2025

Nagpur: Public sector mining company Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) registered a profit before tax (PBT) of Rs 4,375.55 crore for the fiscal ending March 2025. With a growth of 4.64%, this is the highest ever profit in absolute terms since the company's inception, according to a note shared with TOI. The books of accounts were presented to the company's board of directors last week. WCL was formed in 1975 after nationalisation of coal mines in the country. Headquartered in Nagpur, WCL is one of the subsidiaries of Coal India Limited (CIL). The company's revenue for the fiscal ending March 2025 stood at over Rs 15,300 crore. "The profit was maintained due to the relentless growth and coordination between various segments of WCL," said the PSU's director (finance), Bikram Ghosh. The company hopes to maintain the trend in the current fiscal year as well. The early trends have been favourable in the current financial year too, he said. WCL has more than 47 mines located across Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. As its profits have seen a major jump over the years, WCL paid an interim dividend of Rs 500 crore to its parent company Coal India Limited (CIL) in the last fiscal, said an official in the finance department.

Ola Electric sees 51% slowdown in electric 2W sales in May, drops to 3rd spot

Ola Electric saw a 51 per cent (year-on-year) slowdown in electric two-wheeler sales to 18,499 units in May, dropping to the third position behind rivals TVS Motor and Bajaj Auto. May saw a strong performance in the electric two-wheeler (E2W) segment, with retail sales reaching 100,266 units, according to the government's Vahan data. TVS Motor led with selling 24,560 units, registering a 107 per cent year-on-year (YoY) growth and securing 24 per cent market share in May. Bajaj Auto clocked the sale of 21,770 units, registering a 135 per cent YoY growth and 22 per cent market share at the second position, the Vahan data showed. Bhavish Aggarwal-led Ola Electric registered an 18 per cent market share last month at the third spot. Ather Energy, which went public last month, sold 12,840 units and captured 13 per cent share of the market. Ola Electric's financial performance took a sharp beating in the fourth quarter (Q4) of FY25, as the electric vehicle maker reported a steep drop in revenue and a twofold increase in net losses on a year-on-year (YoY) basis. The company posted a net loss of Rs 870 crore for the January-March quarter (Q4), up from Rs 416 crore in the same quarter previous fiscal (Q4 FY24), according to its stock exchange filing. Revenue from operations fell significantly to Rs 611 crore in Q4 FY25, marking a 61.8 per cent decline from Rs 1,598 crore a year ago. This is one of the company's worst quarterly revenue performances since it began commercial deliveries of its electric two-wheelers in late 2021. The drop comes amid rising competition in the electric scooter market, regulatory uncertainty around government subsidies, and inventory correction across dealerships. For the full year FY25, Ola Electric's revenue also fell to Rs 4,645 crore, down from Rs 5,126 crore in FY24. Ather Energy also reported a net loss of Rs 234.40 crore in the fourth quarter of the last financial year (FY25), widened by 18.5 per cent from Rs 197.8 crore net loss in Q3 (quarter-on-quarter). Total expenses rose to Rs 922 crore in Q4, 8.7 per cent up on a quarterly basis and 12.6 per cent year-on-year. The company's revenue from operations went up 29 per cent to Rs 676 crore in Q4, from Rs 523.4 crore in the year-ago period.
