Aberdeen sporting legends event cancelled after Harry Redknapp pulls out for second time

An event featuring sporting legends in Aberdeen has been cancelled due to guest Harry Redknapp withdrawing for the second time.
The former West Ham and Tottenham manager was supposed to headline the event which was organised as part of the city's Ultimate Masterclass Festival.
He was to share behind-the-scenes stories from his long career alongside guests Gordon Strachan and Paul Lawrie.
Originally scheduled to take place on April 1, An Evening with Sporting Legends was postponed when Redknapp pulled out the first time.
It is understood this was due to personal circumstances.
Organisers Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce confirmed the event would be rescheduled to take place on Tuesday, May 20.
However, they have now announced it will not go ahead at all due to Redknapp backing out again.
A post shared states: 'It is with regret that we have to announce the cancellation of tomorrow night's Ultimate Masterclass Festival event: 'An Evening with Sporting Legends'.
'Following the withdrawal of Harry Redknapp, for a second time, we have taken the difficult decision to cancel the event and refund ticketholders.
'We apologise for any inconvenience caused – however, these circumstances are outwith our control.'
Ticketholders have been told they will be contacted by Aberdeen Performing Arts in the coming days to to arrange a refund.
A series of events have been planned as part the Ultimate Masterclass Festival, with Sir Chris Hoy to visit the Music Hall for a sold-out night on September 4.
Last week, Aberdeen audiences enjoyed entertaining evenings with Louis Theroux and James Corden.

'I was tipped as next Harry Kane but Tottenham sold me – now I have seven goals in four games'

Troy Parrott was hailed as the next Harry Kane during his time at Tottenham, but the striker only made four appearances for the first team before leaving for AZ Alkmaar in 2024, where he has thrived Former Tottenham Hotspur starlet Troy Parrott is living up to his tag as 'the next Harry Kane' in the Netherlands after scoring seven goals in four games for AZ Alkmaar. The 23-year-old left Spurs to join AZ in a £6.7million deal in July 2024, with his former club securing a substantial sell-on clause in the agreement. ‌ Parrott initially joined Tottenham back in 2017 at 15 from Irish team Belvedere, but despite high expectations, he only managed to make four appearances for the senior squad. He even left with some stars warning that Spurs could be making an error in letting him go. ‌ Branded as Ireland's best prospect since ex-Tottenham star Robbie Keane, the forward was also hailed as the next Kane while on the books at Spurs due to the pair's similarities on the pitch. ‌ Although he didn't quite live up to the praise in north London, the Irish forward is now proving his worth in Holland with a series of impressive performances. Parrott was also part of the AZ team that lost to Spurs during their successful Europa League campaign last season. Parrott has already scored three goals in two matches against Finnish side Ilves Tampere and two against Liechtenstein's Vaduz, both in Europa Conference League qualifying this summer. He also bagged a brace in AZ's 4-1 victory over FC Groningen in the Dutch Eredivisie's opening match at the weekend. During his time at Spurs, Parrott had five loan spells with Millwall, Ipswich, MK Dons and Preston, experiencing varying levels of success. However, it was a temporary switch to the Eredivisie with Excelsior that truly launched his career. The forward netted 17 times for the struggling outfit. He has also earned 29 senior caps for the Republic of Ireland, finding the net on five occasions. But what did he make of those weighty comparisons to Kane? He told The Athletic in April 2022 that he was determined he was going to carve his own path. "Obviously, I want to be my own player," he said. "But Kane is so good in terms of his finishing, his passing - why wouldn't I try and take little bits from there?" ‌ "But it's not only taking bits from Kane because he plays for Tottenham. It's taking things wherever you can that will make you better. It's not annoying in any way [the comparisons], it's just how it is. When you see him on TV, you don't get to see him going to the gym before training, you don't get to see the way he trains every day. "That's something everyone should take. There's no downside to having that relentlessness in your game. I look at that and think to be at that level these are the things you need to do." ‌ Spurs are now accelerating their hunt for offensive reinforcements following the exit of club legend Son Heung-Min and the injury to James Maddison, which could potentially rule him out for the bulk of the campaign. Spurs boss Thomas Frank has been busy in the transfer market, securing five new faces for the squad. Permanent deals have been concluded for Mohammed Kudus, Mathys Tel, Kevin Danso, Luka Vuskovic and Kota Takai, while defensive midfielder Joao Palhinha has joined on loan from Bayern Munich. Rumours are also swirling around a move for Manchester City's winger Savinho, with a transfer to Spurs seemingly gaining traction. Speculation is also rife about potential moves for Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze and Leicester City's Bilal El Khannouss. ‌ Spurs cleverly included a 20 per cent sell-on clause in the deal that saw Parrott head to AZ. The club are keeping their fingers crossed for a tidy sum from any future sale of Parrott, or even a bargain return to north London - a possibility they might explore in their quest for more goals. Frankly, Spurs looks short of quality for Uefa Super Cup showdown with PSG

Thomas Frank will discover the depth of the challenge facing him in his first season as Tottenham manager when his side take on Paris Saint-Germain in the Uefa Super Cup in Italy and it may be a scary proposition. Spurs may kick-off their new Premier League campaign at home to promoted Burnley on Saturday seeking a big win to banish the memories of a painful lesson against the Champions League winners from the French capital, who are smarting from last month's chastening defeat to Chelsea in the Club World Cup final. It was always going to be a mountainous task for Tottenham after PSG devastated the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool, Aston Villa and Arsenal before shredding Inter Milan in a 5-1 romp in the final of Europe's biggest club competition. Their victims in the Club World Cup then included Real Madrid and more specifically Bayern Munich, who have just hammered Spurs in pre-season, and although Frank's fellas have a 1-0 victory over Arsenal in Hong Kong and a 1-1 draw with Newcastle in the bank it seems they are still short of quality if they are to fight for glory on four fronts this term. Winning the Europa League in Bilbao gained automatic entry to the Champions League and the prestigious Super Cup showpiece at the home of Serie A club Udinese will give a huge indication as to how Tottenham will fare in that competition this year. The current prospects are that they will struggle to get anywhere near a repeat of the 2019 final against Liverpool in Madrid. They lack real depth with Heung-min Son ending his tremendous ten-year association with the North London club and moving to Los Angeles while key playmakers James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski are both out injured for long stretches. Mohammed Kudus was a smart signing from West Ham as was Joao Palhinha from Bayern but the failure to complete the purchase of Morgan Gibbs-White from Nottingham Forest with no further major additions being made is worrying for Spurs' long-term outlook. Jack Grealish's midfield fluidity and creativity would have been a huge boost, but he is off to Everton and hopes of buying Crystal Palace attacker Eberechi Eze or Savinho from Manchester City appear unlikely. More Trending It's looks like the familiar story of the board failing to seize the opportunity to propel the club into the upper stratosphere of European football is unfolding once again and PSG could ruthlessly expose Tottenham's limitations. The Ligue 1 kings are 6/5 with BoyleSports to lead HT/FT, 16/1 with the same firm, bet365, Betfred and others to win 4-1 while over 4.5 goals is 14/5 with Unibet and BetMGM. Desire Doue is 39/20 with the latter two companies to score at any time and 13/2 with Sky Bet to break the deadlock. Barnsley, Huddersfield and Birmingham combine for Wednesday's Carabao Cup treble. Wimbledon champion Jannik Sinner can continue preparations to retain his US Open crown at Flushing Meadows by successfully defending his Cincinnati Open title at 9/10 with Unibet and BetMGM. Former Hearts midfielder Andy Irving has an increasing number of clubs showing transfer interest as West Ham United prepare to decide his future. Teams in Scotland, Germany and Italy are keen on the 25-year-old, who is looking to play more regularly to improve his chances of making Scotland's World Cup squad should they qualify for next summer's finals. Irving's West Ham contract is due to expire at the end of the season. He enjoyed a strong pre-season with the London club after making an international debut in June's friendly win in Liechtenstein. That came on the back of 11 appearances for The Hammers last year. Rangers are keen to take him to Ibrox, while Celtic continue to monitor him after a late approach to United at the end of last summer's window. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad German Bundesliga clubs Cologne, Borussia Moenchengladbach and Stuttgart have contacted West Ham directly to enquire about Irving's availability. The Austrian champions Sturm Graz also made an approach about tempting him back to the country where he thrived at Austria Klagenfurt before joining West Ham. There is additional interest from Serie A, where Scotland players Scott McTominay, Billy Gilmour, Lewis Ferguson, Ché Adams and Aaron Hickey have flourished in recent seeasons. Both Rangers and Celtic intend to strengthen their squads before the transfer window closes and feel Irving could be a worthwhile addition. As a fluent German speaker, the player is also an attractive prospect for Bundesliga sides in both Germany and Austria. He left formative club Hearts in 2020 for Türkgücü Munich in the German third tier, but moved on to Klagenfurt after Türkgücü suffered financial difficulties. He was sold to West Ham on transfer deadline day in September 2023 but remained on loan at Klagenfurt. After 14 goals and 12 assists in Austria's top division, he made the permanent switch to England last summer. EPL transfer situation in London as options emerge for Irving West Ham sacked head coach Julen Lopetegui in January and replaced him with Graham Potter. He begins a first full season in charge this Saturday when United travel to newly-promoted Sunderland on the opening day of the Premier League. Irving scored in a pre-season friendly win over Swiss club Grasshoppers and also featured on the pre-season trip to the United States of America. Final discussions on that subject will determine the Edinburgh-born player's future.
