Marvel Officially Names MCU's First Main Villain in Ironheart
Despite Dominique Thorne's Riri Williams spending a lot of time distancing herself from Tony Stark's legacy in the recently released series, the Disney+ show ultimately revealed an lore easter egg by name-dropping its villain, 'Iron Monger.' As such, it was the first time that the MCU referred to Obadiah Stane by his comic-accurate title on the live-action front. The character was portrayed by Jeff Bridges in the 2008 flick. 17 years after the release of Jon Favreau's Iron Man, the MCU has officially named the movie's villain, Obadiah Stane. In Ironheart Episode 3, Alden Ehrenreich's character alludes to the name Iron Monger while talking with Riri Williams. This marks the first time the designation has been used to refer to MCU's iconic supervillain. Playing a techie who procures black market upgrades for Williams' Ironheart suits, Alden Ehrenreich is originally introduced as Joe McGillicuddy. However, in Episode 3 of the series, he reveals that he is actually Ezekiel Stane, the son of Obadiah Stane. Joe learns that Williams' motivation to successfully build an Iron suit stems from her stepfather, Gary. He then says that she should consider herself lucky for having found such an ideal role model. Joe further says he 'had an Iron Monger' for a father. The said Ironheart easter egg is the first time that the MCU has used the Iron Monger moniker. However, 2008's Iron Man saw Jeff Bridges make a subtle hint at what his character would eventually become. After Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark shuts down the weapons manufacturing unit of his company, Obadiah Stane attempts to reason with him. This is to silently further his own nefarious agenda. While trying to convince Stark about why they should continue making weapons, Stane says, 'That's what we do. We're iron mongers, we make weapons.' With Alden Ehrenreich's character officially using the title Iron Monger to refer to his father, Ironheart manages to establish a seamless continuity with its predecessor in an innovative way. Regardless, it remains to be seen if Ezekiel Stane will play a bigger role in the upcoming Marvel projects, despite his deep connection to Iron Man's story.

David Tennant Says He Had His "Eye On" the Reed Richards Role in FANTASTIC FOUR Before Pedro Pascal Was Cast — GeekTyrant
David Tennant, best known for playing the Doctor on Doctor Who , was hoping to take on another sci-fi role in the upcoming Marvel film, The Fantastic Four: First Steps . The actor wanted to play Reed Richards, aka Mister Fantastic, but that role ultimately went to Pedro Pascal. Tennant opened up about his previous ambitions during a panel conversation at MCM Comic Con in London, where he was asked by a fan if there were any villains or superheroes he would like to portray that he hasn't gotten the chance to yet. Tennant acknowledged that he struck gold with the mind-controlling abusive antagonist Killgrave in Jessica Jones , but he added that there's another MCU role he would have also liked to have landed. 'In terms of superheroes, I don't know, I did slightly have my eye on Reed Richards, and unfortunately, it looks like they've gone in a different direction,' he said tongue-in-cheek, 'Although if it has to be someone, I'm happy for it to be Pedro Pascal, frankly.' As the audience whooped upon the mention of Mister Fantastic himself, Tennant agreed, exclaiming a resounding 'yes!' He continued, 'I would have quite liked to be Reed Richards, I'd quite like to be able to do all that,' reaching out in front of him and making a sound effect to demonstrate the character's elasticity power. 'So I'll stick with that even though it's gone, even though it's gonna be a while before there's another go at that, I think, unfortunately.' He concluded, 'I think Pedro Pascal is great. I'm very, very pleased that he exists.' Aren't we all? Pascal is joined in the film by Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman; Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch; and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing. In the film, 'Forced to balance their roles as heroes with the strength of their family bond, they must defend Earth from a ravenous space god called Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his enigmatic Herald, Silver Surfer (Julia Garner).' Additional roles are being played by Paul Walter Hauser, John Malkovich, and Natasha Lyonne. The Fantastic Four: First Steps hits theaters on July 25, 2025. via: Deadline

Pedro Pascal Gets Support From Robert Downey Jr. After FANTASTIC FOUR Casting Backlash — GeekTyrant
When Pedro Pascal was announced as Reed Richards in The Fantastic Four: First Steps , it didn't take long for fans to freak out about his age to his facial hair. That kind of scrutiny comes with the territory in comic book movies, where passionate fans have decades of expectations built up. But even someone as seasoned as Pascal admits that this particular role has brought a new kind of pressure. Pascal told Vanity Fair: 'I'm more aware of disgruntlement around my casting than anything I've ever done. 'He's too old. He's not right. He needs to shave.'' Coming from someone who's headlined The Mandalorian , Game of Thrones , and The Last of Us , that says a lot. Still, even with all the noise, Pascal is trying to focus on the work and what he and the creative team are bringing to the table. 'I'm getting an inkling of excitement because it seems to reflect what our common goal was, and what we want to share, which is all of our f***ing hearts on a platter within this genre. You just never know if people are going to be disgusted by your heart or not.' Luckily, he's not facing that noise alone. Marvel legend Robert Downey Jr., who's working alongside Pascal in Avengers: Doomsday , has stepped in with some words of encouragement. According to Pascal, Downey has been a grounding force. 'He's just so immediately generous and inviting that you feel like you can be afraid, you can be hungry, you can be ambivalent.' Downey Jr. has been lifting up other rising stars in the MCU too. Ahead of Ironheart , Dominique Thorne shared how Downey reached out to her during and after filming. 'Shortly after we finished filming in Chicago is when I got the first phone call from him, and he has been so sweet, like, through and through. So, the support it means so much. It really does.' In the same Vanity Fair piece, he said: 'Pascal's slow trajectory to becoming a household name who is on a wildly hot streak kind of reaffirms my faith in our industry.'
