Morocco Holds 60th Place in FIFA Women's World Rankings, Remains Among Africa's Top Three
The Atlas Lionesses remain among the top three African teams, behind Nigeria, which ranks 36th, and South Africa, placed 54th.
The Moroccan squad, which has seen growing support in recent years, keeps its spot after a quiet quarter in international play. Their consistency helps maintain their standing as a key force in African women's football.
At the top of the global rankings, the US still leads. Spain holds 2nd spot, and Germany stays in 3rd.
Brazil climbed to 4th after defeating the US in April. England fell to 5th, while Sweden stayed close behind in 6th.
Japan and Canada dropped after recent defeats, Japan to Brazil, and Canada to Argentina. North Korea kept its 9th place, and France returned to the top ten, pushing the Netherlands out.
The Atlas Lionesses are preparing to compete in the Women's African Cup of Nations (WAFCON), set to run from July 5 to 26.
Morocco will face Zambia, Senegal, and the Democratic Republic of Congo in Group A following the tournament draw.
The selected venues include Larbi Zaouli and Père Jégo Stadiums in Casablanca, Rabat's Olympic Stadium, El Bachir Stadium in Mohammedia, Stade d'Honneur in Oujda, and the Municipal Stadium in Berkane. Tags: Atlas LionessesFIFAfifa rankingMorocco FIFA ranking

Lorch Leaves Sundowns for Permanent Move to Wydad
Mamelodi Sundowns have confirmed that Thembinkosi Lorch has left the club, almost two years after joining from Orlando Pirates, as coach Miguel Cardoso trims his squad. Lorch is set to rejoin Moroccan side Wydad Athletic Club on a permanent two-year deal, following a successful six-month loan spell. The move comes after Wydad and Sundowns agreed on the transfer. Sundowns said in a statement: 'Thank you, Nyoso! After two unforgettable years, one league title, 26 appearances, seven goals and four assists, the Yellow Nation thanks and celebrates Thembinkosi Lorch. Wishing you all the best as you start the next chapter of your journey!' Lorch also posted on Instagram: 'As I turn to the next chapter of my career, I want to thank Masandawana for welcoming, embracing and supporting me. To the Chairman and The Board, thank you for allowing me to spread my wings up North. To my former teammates, Coaches and Technical Team, I am privileged to have played with you and under your guidance. Ka Bo Yellow Masandawana ✌️' At Wydad, coach Mohamed Amine Benhachem sees Lorch as a key addition to the attack, with options to play him as a central striker or second forward. Now the Casablanca-based club will shift its focus to signing a left-back, after cancelling plans for a right-back and striker. Wydad's summer window has been busy. Alongside Lorch, the club has signed Amin Abou Fath (Kuwait), Joseph Bakasso (Manima Union, DR Congo), Walid Sebbar (Nahdat Zemamra), Abdelghafour Lamirat (Olympic Safi), Guilherme Ferreira de Oliveira (Vilafranquense, Portugal), Bart Myers (Borac Banja Luka, Bosnia), Hamza El Ouasti (Ittihad Tanger), Hamza Hanouri (Fath Rabat), Stefan Aziz Ki (Young Africans, Tanzania), and Sofiane Amrabat (free agent). Sektioui: Hakimi Fully Deserves Ballon d'Or
Morocco coach Tarik Sektioui says Achraf Hakimi 'fully and rightfully' deserves to win the Ballon d'Or. Speaking after Morocco's 3-1 win over Zambia in the African Nations Championship, Sektioui said: 'I was alongside him during the Olympics; he is an outstanding player. He has enormous qualities, but he also has enormous values as a person. That's what makes his quality, and it's exactly what's reflected on the pitch.' Sektioui added that Hakimi has maintained a very high level for the past four to five years. 'It's a source of pride for us, it's a source of pride for Moroccan football. For me, he fully deserves the Ballon d'Or.' On the match, Sektioui said his side were more efficient in attack compared with their previous game, creating several chances and forcing Zambia to retreat. 'The video session we held paid off thanks to the maturity and intelligence of the players,' he said, adding that they missed seven or eight scoring opportunities. He spoke highly about the players' fighting spirit and thanked those from Raja, AS FAR and RS Berkane for their contribution after being called up. Achraf Hakimi is now the third most decorated African footballer after helping Paris Saint-Germain win the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday night. The victory takes Hakimi's career total to 17 trophies, placing him behind only Samuel Eto'o and Yaya Touré, who each have 18. At 26, Hakimi is close to surpassing both to become Africa's most decorated player. This bolsters his position among Africa's most successful footballers, with the opportunity to equal or break the record soon. His performances for club and country this year have kept him in contention for the 2025 Ballon d'Or, to be awarded in September. Tags: Ballon D'orCHAN 2024HakimiMoroccoPSGsektioui
