Sounders goalkeeper Stefan Frei was 'back home resting' on Monday after leaving Sunday's match in Seattle in an ambulance with an injury to his head and neck.
Frei, 39, collided with Columbus Crew midfielder Amar Sejdic's knee while trying to collect a free kick during second-half stoppage time in the 1-1 draw.
Medical personnel rushed onto the field and placed Frei onto a stretcher before loading him into an ambulance at Lumen Field.
'I'm incredibly grateful to all the staff that looked after me and happy to be back home resting now,' Frei posted on X early Monday morning.
'What resonates is all the messages, calls and love I've received from so many of you. Thank you -- truly. It means more than I can put into words.'Instead of resuming play after Frei's injury, Crew coach Wilfried Nancy and Sounders coach Brian Schmetzer successfully encouraged officials to end the match.
'Wilfried, I appreciate what he did because the ref wasn't going to stop the game,' Schmetzer said. 'Everybody knew that the game should have been stopped. Good on him. So thank you, Wilfried.'
'I hope that everything's going to be okay with (Frei),' Nancy said. 'Our job is not easy. When you see a situation like that, again, football is not the most important. We stay positive, and hopefully everything's going to be good for him.'
Frei has been minding the Sounders' net since the 2014 season. Including his time with Toronto from 2011-13, he has recorded 112 clean sheets in 371 career MLS matches.

CF Montreal salvages draw with late penalty vs. Orlando City
Field Level Media 13 Jul 2025, 07:35 GMT+10 (Photo credit: Mike Watters-Imagn Images) Prince Owusu converted on an 83rd-minute penalty for CF Montreal to salvage a 1-1 draw against host Orlando City on Saturday. Montreal (3-13-6, 15 points) is 2-1-1 in its past four road matches. Orlando (9-5-8, 35 points) is winless in its past three after winning five of seven. Owusu's career-high 10th of the season tied it 1-1 on a penalty in the 83rd minute after he was fouled in the box. The German striker took his strides toward the ball before pausing briefly to freeze goalkeeper Javier Otero and fire it low into the right side. The hosts pushed for the go-ahead goal in second-half stoppage time but were denied by Montreal. Joel Waterman got in front of an Alex Freeman chance near the spot. Moments later, goalkeeper Jonathan Sirois shoveled across to deny Nicolas Rodriguez's shot from outside the box. Martin Ojeda capitalized on a set piece for Orlando to give the hosts a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute. The midfielder put a short roll towards Luis Muriel, who stopped it to allow Ojeda to come into it for a low strike into the bottom right corner. The tally was his 10th of the season to become the third player in Lions history with double-digit goals and assists in a single MLS season. He also reached 20 goals and 31 assists with the club, making him the third player in franchise history with at least 20 goals and 30 assists. It also made it seven straight games with a goal contribution for Ojeda, matching his record from last season across all competitions. Ojeda appeared to put Orlando up by two in the 34th minute but the offside flag was raised. Owusu then looked to have pulled Montreal level in the 39th minute off a rush in transition but another offside flag kept the deficit at one. Montreal controlled the ball early, dominating with over 63 percent of the touches through the first 15 minutes but couldn't get off a shot attempt. --Field Level Media

Idan Toklomati, Kerwin Vargas deliver for Charlotte over NYCFC
Field Level Media 13 Jul 2025, 08:49 GMT+10 (Photo credit: Scott Kinser-Imagn Images) Idan Toklomati scored early and Kerwin Vargas tallied late as Charlotte FC came away with a 2-0 victory against visiting New York City FC on Saturday night, winning for the first time in their past five matches. Goalkeeper Kristijan Kahlina made three saves for the clean sheet. Charlotte (9-11-2, 29 points) won for the first time since May 31 at Toronto FC. Unlike a week earlier in a 2-2 draw with Orlando, Charlotte protected a two-goal lead. New York City (9-8-4, 31 points) was playing in the first of four consecutive road matches. The team remained winless in matches in Charlotte. Matthew Freese, who just returned from a stint with the U.S. national team at the CONCACAF Gold Cup, made one save for NYC. Toklomati's goal came in the 14th minute, assisted by Pep Biel. The pass from Biel on the left side connected with Toklomati, who was cutting toward the center of the goal mouth. It was the 20-year-old Toklomati's fourth goal of the season, with three coming in a four-match span. The third goal of the season for Vargas snapped his five-match scoreless stretch, finishing by turning and firing a shot from just inside the top of the box for a 2-0 lead in the 81st minute. It was quite an individual effort before Vargas first controlled the ball and was denied on an initial shot before trying again and converting. The start of the match was delayed for nearly 90 minutes because of weather concerns. --Field Level Media
