India to host ICC Women's World Cup 2025 from September 30, Pakistan's matches to be played in Sri Lanka
The 2025 Women's World Cup will be hosted in five venues across India and Sri Lanka from September 30 to November 2, the International Cricket Council said on Monday. Four venues have been listed in India and one in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo will be the venue for all of Pakistan's games.
The venues that will host the matches are M. Chinnaswamy Stadium (Bengaluru), ACA Stadium (Guwahati), Holkar Stadium (Indore), ACA-VDCA Stadium (Visakhapatnam), and R. Premadasa Stadium (Colombo). The ICC said in its statement on Monday that Colombo has been listed as a backup venue for all knockout matches, including the final.
The tournament will start in Bengaluru with a match involving India. 'The first semi-final will take place in either Guwahati or Colombo on October 29, with the second semi-final to be played the following day on October 30 in Bengaluru,' it said. 'The two finalists will then have at least two days to prepare for the title decider, with the final of the 2025 Women's World Cup to be held in either Bengaluru or Colombo on Sunday November 2.'
Australia enter the event as the reigning champions, having defeated England in the final of the 2022 Women's World Cup in New Zealand. They are also the most successful team in tournament history having been crowned champions on seven occasions.
The ICC had said in December that matches involving India and Pakistan hosted by either country will be played at a neutral venue until 2027. 'India and Pakistan matches hosted by either country at ICC Events during the 2024-2027 rights cycle will be played at a neutral venue,' the ICC had said.
In April this year, Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Mohsin Naqvi reiterated that the women's team will not travel to India for the World Cup. 'Just like India didn't play in Pakistan in the Champions Trophy and were allowed to play at a neutral venue [Dubai], whatever venue is decided, we will play [there],' Naqvi had said.
