The 2025 Women's World Cup will be hosted in five venues across India and Sri Lanka from September 30 to November 2, the International Cricket Council said on Monday. Four venues have been listed in India and one in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo will be the venue for all of Pakistan's games.
The venues that will host the matches are M. Chinnaswamy Stadium (Bengaluru), ACA Stadium (Guwahati), Holkar Stadium (Indore), ACA-VDCA Stadium (Visakhapatnam), and R. Premadasa Stadium (Colombo). The ICC said in its statement on Monday that Colombo has been listed as a backup venue for all knockout matches, including the final.
The tournament will start in Bengaluru with a match involving India. 'The first semi-final will take place in either Guwahati or Colombo on October 29, with the second semi-final to be played the following day on October 30 in Bengaluru,' it said. 'The two finalists will then have at least two days to prepare for the title decider, with the final of the 2025 Women's World Cup to be held in either Bengaluru or Colombo on Sunday November 2.'
Australia enter the event as the reigning champions, having defeated England in the final of the 2022 Women's World Cup in New Zealand. They are also the most successful team in tournament history having been crowned champions on seven occasions.
The ICC had said in December that matches involving India and Pakistan hosted by either country will be played at a neutral venue until 2027. 'India and Pakistan matches hosted by either country at ICC Events during the 2024-2027 rights cycle will be played at a neutral venue,' the ICC had said.
In April this year, Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Mohsin Naqvi reiterated that the women's team will not travel to India for the World Cup. 'Just like India didn't play in Pakistan in the Champions Trophy and were allowed to play at a neutral venue [Dubai], whatever venue is decided, we will play [there],' Naqvi had said.

Soccer-Uzbekistan earn first World Cup qualification, Australia, Jordan close in

HONG KONG, - Uzbekistan qualified for the World Cup for the first time on Thursday as a 0-0 draw with the United Arab Emirates confirmed the nation's progress to next year's finals as Australia and Jordan moved to the verge of booking berths in North America. Aziz Behich's 90th minute strike earned the Socceroos a 1-0 win over already-qualified Japan in Perth in Group C to keep Tony Popovic's side three points clear of Saudi Arabia, who won 2-0 against Bahrain in Riffa. Goals from Musab Al-Juwayr and Abdulrahman Al-Obud earned Saudi Arabia a victory that puts Australia's celebrations on hold until the two nations meet in Jeddah on Tuesday. But Australia's vastly superior goal difference means they can lose that meeting with the Saudis by up to four goals and still advance to a sixth consecutive World Cup finals as second-placed finishers behind the Japanese. Jordan also moved to the cusp of qualification as Ali Olwan's hat-trick delivered a 3-0 win over Oman in Muscat to leave Jamal Sellami's side waiting for the result from South Korea's clash with Iraq in Basra later on Thursday in Group B. Uzbekistan goalkeeper Utkir Yusupov made a string of second-half saves in Abu Dhabi to frustrate the UAE and earn his nation their first World Cup qualification since the country gained independence from the Soviet Union in 1991. Abbosbek Fayzullaev had hit the crossbar with a 54th minute header for the visitors but it was Yusupov who frustrated the Cosmin Olaroiu-coached Emiratis, who needed to win to maintain their hopes of automatic qualification. The draw means the UAE will now progress to the fourth round of qualifying as the point earned guarantees a third- or fourth-placed finish in Group A. Indonesia guaranteed their involvement in the World Cup preliminaries would continue into the fourth round as a 1-0 win over China also ended the qualification hopes of Branko Ivankovic's side. Ole Romeny's 45th minute penalty separated the sides in Jakarta to ensure Indonesia would finish in either third or fourth place in Group C, thereby progressing to the next phase, which will be played in October.

FIFA, Saudi PIF Announce Partnership For Upcoming 2025 Club World Cup in USA

FIFA, the governing body of football, and Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) announced on Wednesday a partnership for the Club World Cup, which begins in the U.S. on June 14. This partnership is another significant step for PIF in expanding its global sports portfolio, following its investments in football, golf, and motorsport. The FIFA Club World Cup 2025 is hosted by the United States and kicks off on June 14, with the tournament opener between Inter Miami and Egyptian club Al Ahly at Hard Rock Stadium in Florida. The tournament culminates with the final on July 13 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The month-long tournament will feature 32 of the world's top clubs for the first time, competing in 11 cities across the U.S. Eleven cities across the US have been chosen as venues – Atlanta, Cincinnati, Charlotte, Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville, New York/New Jersey, Orlando, Philadelphia, Seattle and Washington, D.C. The new deal between FIFA and PIF builds on PIF's existing partnerships in international football, including a collaboration with CONCACAF announced last year. Historic Prize For FCWC Winner FIFA also announced that the prize money pool for the upcoming 2025 FIFA Club World Cup will be a substantial $1 billion, with the tournament winner set to receive $125 million. This figure is significantly higher than the prize money offered for the most recent men's or women's World Cups. By comparison, the total prize money for the 2022 men's World Cup in Qatar was $440 million, while the 2023 Women's World Cup in New Zealand and Australia had a prize pool of $110 million. Despite the attractive financial incentives, the tournament's expansion has faced widespread criticism, particularly in Europe, due to concerns over player welfare and fitness. The global footballers' union FIFPro and the European Leagues association filed a complaint with the European Commission in October against FIFA, accusing it of abusing its dominant position by overcrowding the calendar.
