Following that playoff elimination, James was asked how much longer he plans to keep playing, and he said he couldn't give an answer. He has a player option for next season, and most expect him to remain with the Lakers for at least one more year.
Rich Paul, James' longtime agent, made an appearance on "The Rich Eisen Show" and said he has "no idea" how much longer the four-time MVP will stay in the league.
'I have no idea. Zero," said Paul. "Normally, our process is you kind of weigh everything and see how he's feeling and all those types of things. Same process it's been for the last I don't know how many years. He'll come around to what he's thinking at some point and we'll kind of go over some things and go from there.'
James said after L.A.'s final playoff game that he will discuss his basketball future with his family at some point.
He is in a favorable position as far as having a shot at his fifth NBA championship. The Lakers now have the 26-year-old Luka Doncic, and they're very intent on addressing their very weak center rotation, as well as improving their wing depth this offseason.
Successfully doing both could very well result in the storied franchise's 18th world title next June, as well as another notch on James' belt, assuming he returns for his 23rd campaign.

That said, after recording 53 P+A (45 points, 8 assists) in the first OKC-IND meeting of the season on December 26 and 41 (33 points, 8 assists) in the rematch on March 29, I expect the 2025 NBA MVP to have a big Game 1 as both a passer and scorer. Pacers guard Andrew Nembhard deserves every bit of credit he's gotten for how well he defended Jalen Brunson in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals. He limited the Knicks' top scorer to 9 points in 44 partial possessions when guarded by Nembhard in that game, according to But SGA is A) coming off a terrific offensive series vs. a good defensive team in Minnesota and B) he had plenty of regular-season success vs. Nembhard when these teams met earlier this year. On December 26, in 32.8 partial possessions when guarded by Nembhard, SGA had 16 points and two assists on 7-for-8 FG shooting (2-for-2 3PT). Nembhard held SGA to 11 points on 4-for-10 FG shooting and 1 assist in 37.2 partial possessions on March 29, but the Thunder scored 51 points as a team in those possesions (an effective clip of 1.37 points per possession). And we haven't even mentioned Nembhard's physicality, which is a huge reason he's an effective 1-on-1 defender. That could easily get him in foul trouble against one of the most effective players in the league at getting to the free-throw line, though. The other reason to back SGA tonight -- and throughout this series, assuming his over/under prop lines remain somewhat reasonable -- is how Indiana fared against the last two star guards it faced this postseason. Style-wise, there's no mistaking Gilgeous-Alexander for either Cleveland's Donovan Mitchell or Brunson. Still, those players' success against Indiana is nevertheless worth noting here. Lamar Jackson is a two-time NFL MVP and arguably should have won the award in 2024. Baltimore's 2025 NFL season is quickly approaching, and the Ravens' focus has shifted to reshaping the roster and preparing for a juggernaut of a schedule. The Ravens have more urgency for a new deal than Jackson although he has dropped to the NFL's 10th-highest-paid player after Brock Purdy's recent five-year, $265 million contract extension, averaging $53 million per year, with the San Francisco 49ers. Patience can be Jackson's best friend because his salary cap number jumps from $43.5 million in 2025 to an unmanageable $74.5 million in 2026 and also in 2027. The $74.5 million is 2026's third highest cap number. Fortunately for Jackson, Harbaugh conceded at the league meetings that Jackson was going to be put back at the top of the NFL salary hierarchy with his next contract. "The value is the top," Harbaugh said. "When Lamar gets paid, he's going to be the highest-paid player in football, just like he was last time. I think every contract he signs till he decides to hang up his cleats, he's going to be that guy." These dynamics give Jackson, who represents himself and has never had an agent, significant leverage in negotiations. He shouldn't think about twice about using the existing circumstances to his advantage. As Corry pointed out, Jackson just finished the second year of a five-year, $260 million contract signed with the Baltimore Ravens on May 4, 2023. Of this, $185 million is guaranteed, of which $135 million was fully guaranteed at signing. Brooklyn will be the busiest team at the Draft given that they have five picks in total to use and while they may not be using all of their picks in the event, they are still doing their due diligence just to be on the safe side. One of the ways that the Nets have been doing their homework is by bringing in players for predraft workouts since Brooklyn has all five of their picks in the top-36 of the Draft. The Nets have brought in a significant amount of players in for workouts already, but one of the players they brought in was Auburn center Johni Broome, who seemingly confirmed as such through his Instagram. On Wednesday, Broome posted a photo of a Nets workout shirt with the number four on his story, indicating that he was either getting ready for the workout or had just finished it. It's not specified in the photo what the number four is for, but it's most likely a reference to his jersey number as he wore the number four during his college career at Morehead State and Auburn. Broome, 22, is coming off a senior season at Auburn in which he averaged 18.6 points, 10.8 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 2.1 blocks per game while shooting 51.0% from the field and 27.8% from three-point land. Broome was not only the SEC Player of the Year for the 2024-25 season, but he was also a consensus All-American, showing how highly-regarded he was. Broome is expected to be taken in the second round of the upcoming Draft and might be a target for Brooklyn. "Projecting Broome to the next level, teams should be able to bank on him for low-post offense, second-chance points, passing and shot-blocking.
