Greater Noida to seize T-Series land to build road
The urgency clause of the Land Acquisition Act allows the government to take immediate possession of land needed for public purposes if an urgent situation exists, bypassing normal acquisition process.
'The road connecting LG Chowk with Knowledge Park needs to be urgently built and we cannot afford to wait any longer. Traffic in the area is set to increase because the Noida Airport will open soon. The road will decongest other city roads, benefiting commuters in Greater Noida, Noida and those travelling towards the Yamuna Expressway,' said Ravi Kumar NG, chief executive officer of the Greater Noida authority.
The project was first mooted in 2010 but was delayed because of resistance from T-Series. The four hectares needed for the road is part of 80 hectares of land owned by T-Series. The authority wants all 80 hectares for developmental purposes but T-Series wants to keep 76 hectares, and only wants to give up the four hectares needed for the road. T-Series bought the land from farmers in 1987 before the Greater Noida authority came into existence. According to the rules, without the approval of the building map from the Greater Noida authority, no one can build any project or use the land for industrial, commercial or any other purpose. T-Series has been resisting the acquisition because it wants permission to use the land for its own purposes, which the Greater Noida authority has refused.
'We are ready to give four hectares land required for the road project. But we request that the remaining land must be given to us for industrial purposes because we had bought the land in 1987 before the Greater Noida authority came into existence in 1992,' said a T-Series spokesperson.
On Thursday, the authority said it plans to complete the land acquisition process as soon as possible and deposit the land cost in the additional district magistrate's office. According to officials, the land cost is ₹3,100 per sqm. Once the authority gets the land, it will build the road within two to three months. The budget for the road project is ₹31 crore, said officials.
The road is currently only half-finished, with three lanes built from Knowledge Park to LG Chowk. The other half of three lanes from LG Chowk to Knowledge Park have yet to be built.

Nagpur SROs didn't report real estate deals worth over Rs5.5k cr to I-T dept
Nagpur: The value of unreported real estate deals under the statement of financial transactions (SFT) by the property registrar's offices being probed by the Income Tax Department has crossed Rs5,500 crore. Starting with the sub-registrars' office (SRO) at Hingna, the I-T department has extended its probe to four new SROs covering areas in Nagpur city. The probe has been initiated by the Intelligence and Criminal Investigation (IC) wing of the I-T department. It was found that in a single SRO deals worth Rs2,500 crore were not reported under the SFT format, said sources. The total amount comes to over Rs5,500 crore after clubbing all the SROs covered so far, they said. Sources said the case has revealed a major loophole in the system. All the sale deeds for transactions worth Rs30 lakh and above have to be reported to the I-T department under the SFT format. The SROs engage chartered accountants who compile the information for reporting under SFT. Even if the CAs may not have passed on the entire data to the I-T department, the ultimate authority lies with the registrar office, said sources. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Passive Income Ideas Sitting at Home Mone Click Here Undo The I-T department is now ensuring that all the data that was missed out is now reported under the SFT. Action on individuals who registered the deals may be taken up later if any discrepancy is found. The purpose of getting data under SFT is to ensure that I-T department keeps parallel information of the transactions. So, if an individual does not mention the details in the tax returns, it can still be pointed out on the basis of SFT data with the taxman, said sources. HC reserves order on Sanjay Bhandaris plea against fugitive offender tag
Agency: New Delhi, Aug 21 (PTI) The Delhi High Court on Thursday reserved its order on a plea filed by UK-based arms consultant Sanjay Bhandari challenging a trial court's order declaring him a 'fugitive economic offender". Justice Neena Bansal Krishna heard the arguments on behalf of Bhandari and the Enforcement Directorate and reserved its verdict. The probe agency contended that when the trial court's order was passed in July, the court was aware about an assessment order showing Rs 655 crore of property was surreptitiously acquired. However, Bhandari's counsel argued the prosecution was initiated without completion of assessment proceedings and if the assessment was not complete, where was the reason to believe that the tax evasion was over Rs 100 crore. Seeking to stay and quash the trial court proceedings, Bhandari's counsel said he would be rendered remediless the moment they declare him a fugitive. The trial court on July 5 declared Bhandari a 'fugitive economic offender" on a plea by the ED, an order that allows the agency to confiscate all the assets worth crores of rupees of Bhandari, whose chances to come to India have been virtually nullified after a UK court recently ruled against his extradition. Bhandari's legal team, while opposing the ED's move to get him declared a fugitive offender, claimed its 'client's stay could not be called illegal in the UK as he has a legal right to reside in the UK and the government of India is bound by the judgment of the UK court… Bhandari is legally living there, and declaring him a 'fugitive' in that scenario is legally wrong". The trial court said the 'extradition attempt may have failed, but it will not make the accused an angel or immune from prosecution for the violation of Indian laws". Bhandari (63) fled to London in 2016, soon after the I-T department raided him in Delhi. The ED filed its first chargesheet against Bhandari in 2020. It filed a criminal case against Bhandari and others under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in February 2017, taking cognisance of an I-T chargesheet filed against him under the anti-black money law of 2015. The agency is probing Bhandari's links with Robert Vadra, the businessman husband of Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
