Open letter signed by players calls on GAA to end sponsorship deal with Allianz
It's reported that over 800 current and former GAA players have signed the letter due to links between Allianz and Israel.

A report published on the website of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights at the UN listed Allianz among companies and corporations that was buying Israeli treasury bonds, which, the report argues, play a 'critical role in funding the ongoing assault on Gaza'.
The report was written by UN special rapporteur (independent human rights expert) on Human Rights in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, Francesca Albanese.
The 42 contacted the GAA for comment but did not receive a response at time of publication.
Allianz, in a statement to The 42, said: 'Our long-standing partnership with the GAA is about supporting Irish sport and communities.
'Allianz Ireland is part of a global group, and while the wider group operates internationally across insurance and investment, as a matter of principle we do not comment on individual customers or business matters.
'What we can say is that all Allianz business decisions are guided by strict legal standards and world-leading ESG principles.'

UEFA Conference League – play-off qualifying round, first leg Santa Clara 1 Shamrock Rovers 2 A FIRST goal in Europe for Danny Grant and another skilfully taken strike from the influential Danny Mandroiu leaves Shamrock Rovers some 90 minutes away from back-to-back qualifications for the league phase of the Conference League after a controlled, tactically astute performance in the Azores. Stephen Bradley's side did so by having to come from behind as they more than matched Santa Clara, who finished fifth in the Portuguese Primeira Liga last season, in the 24-degree heat of the Estadio Sao Miguel in Ponta Delgada. It's thus all set up for another rousing night at Tallaght Stadium ahead of next Thursday's second leg when Rovers will hope to make the group/league phase in Europe for a third time in four years. In doing so, they would also become the first Irish side to reach that stage from outside the champions' path. But just as Rovers looked to have settled well into the game, Santa Clara took the lead on 20 minutes. Another VAR check for offside denied Rovers the lead at the other end on 57 minutes when Gaffney turned home from underneath the crossbar, skipper Roberto Lopes, on his milestone 50th appearance in Europe, having headed Dylan Watts' free kick back across goal. But there was no need for any check for what proved to be Rovers' winner on the night when it arrived after 66 minutes. Another Watts delivery from a free kick was headed into space in the area by the tenacious Josh Honohan. Mandroiu read it perfectly, taking a delightful first touch to burst between two defenders and confidently side-foot past Batista to the corner of the net. Russell Henley surges clear at Tour Championship with Rory McIlroy in the chasing pack
Russell Henley shot 61 to move into a two-stroke lead after the first round of the Tour Championship, finishing with three straight birdies to move to nine under par. It leaves him two clear of defending champion Scottie Scheffler, the world number one finishing on his own in second place at the East Lake Golf Club. Rory McIlroy was the best of the Irish on four under par, with Shane Lowry finishing on even par. McIlroy made it to the turn on three under, after a spectacular 30-foot putt for eagle at seven. The back nine was more mixed as the county Down man mixed three birdies with two bogeys. For Lowry, it was a more consistent day, with two birdies and two bogeys to finish on level par. The course was set up to be more challenging with pins tucked in corners of the greens but it mattered little. In total, 22 of the 30 players were under par, six players were even and just two players were over par. The combined score of the field was 82 under par. Perhaps it was the heavy rain that pummelled the Atlanta area Tuesday and Wednesday that helped the golfers, with Round 1 played under preferred lies rules due to evening downpours. This allowed balls on the fairways or other closely mown areas to be lifted, cleaned and placed in a preferred spot. The Tour Championship winner will also be crowned FedEx champion and will pocket the $10m on offer, which equates to roughly €8.6m.

Stephen Bradley says that an away day win in the Azores for his Shamrock Rovers side capped the 'best week of his life' after his son Josh received the all-clear from cancer. The Rovers boss stressed that his players still have work to do in Tallaght next Thursday if they are to become the first Irish team to qualify for European league phase football without availing of the champions route - but Bradley said that the trauma that he has experienced off the park across the last three years has taught him to enjoy the good days.
