Video: Window frame falls off mid-air on Goa-bound flight; SpiceJet says ‘no safety risk'
"A cosmetic (interior) window frame on one of the Q400 aircraft became loose during the flight and was found dislodged," the airline said in a statement.
"SpiceJet also stated that cabin pressurisation remained normal throughout the flight and there was no impact on passenger safety. It added that the dislodged part was a non-structural trim component, fitted onto the window for the purpose of shade, and did not compromise the safety or integrity of the aircraft in any way," the statement added.
Mandar Sawant, a passenger on the flight, told The Indian Express, 'I was travelling back from Goa to Pune after attending an event. A woman was sitting behind me with a baby. Half an hour after takeoff, the window (close to her) just popped out. The woman got scared, and it was damn concerning. There is a protective layer behind the window that shields us from the elements outside, and it was intact, but it is still concerning. This is not done.'
He added, 'The flight attendants tried to calm us down, but what else could they even do? They moved the woman and her child to a different seat behind. The stewardess did manage to somewhat get the window back on, but any sudden movement and it probably would have fallen off again.'
The Q400 aircraft features multiple layers of window panes, including a strong, pressure-resistant outer layer. This design ensures passenger safety remains uncompromised, even if a non-structural or cosmetic component becomes loose, SpiceJet said.

The situation is serious at one specific period of the day when the water level is very high.' 'The work on the National Highway bridge was scheduled to be completed by March next year. Works are on track and will be completed within the stipulated timeline. The delays were owing to security issues because of the Naxal activities in the area. Police presence was required to construct the bridge,' said the district collector. Highlighting the other issues which caused delay in the work, Panda said, 'Due to remote location, supply of labour, materials and machine was difficult and disrupted, which also led to slight delay in construction of the bridge. All the measures for mitigation and help are in place. Boats have been supplied and nobody is allowed to cross the river without supervision. The district administration is continuously monitoring the situation and has visited the place multiple times.' Panda said that the list of all pregnant women is there with health staff so that they can be placed in 'Maher Ghar' attached to PHCs prior to delivery. Also, medicines and ration for three months have been provided beforehand to all these villages. Bhamragad tehsildar Kishore Bagde also appealed to residents to avoid crossing the flooded river and use the government-provided boat for their safety.

There was no cabin depressurisation as the outer layers of the windowpane remained intact and passenger safety was not compromised, the airline said in a statement. The frame was fixed once the aircraft landed at the Pune airport, in accordance with standard maintenance procedures, the airline said.
