No refreshments, double security checks: Air India flyers from Delhi to Pune stuck in aircraft for over three hours
Pune: Around 150 passengers travelling from Delhi to Pune on an Air India (AI-2971) flight spent more than three hours inside the aircraft on Sunday afternoon waiting for it to take off. The passengers were stuck without any refreshments or proper information about take-off time. This incident is a repeat of last week when passengers of a SpiceJet flight from Delhi to Pune spent hours inside the aircraft. The Air India flight was scheduled to take off from Delhi at 4pm and land in Pune by 6.05pm. It finally took off from Delhi around 7.15 pm and landed in Pune around 8.50pm. Major General Rajan Kochhar (retired), who was travelling with his wife, told TOI that the boarding was on time. "After we boarded and the flight was set to take off, a bout of bad weather, possibly a dust storm, hit Delhi. The take-off was aborted due to strong winds and bad weather. However, it subsided within half an hour, but even then, the aircraft did not take off," Kochhar, who was coming to Pune for a reunion function at the National Defence Academy (NDA), said. When flyers asked the cabin crew about the scheduled take-off time, they were told that the aircraft needed to refuel. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Зачем на ночь сжигают лавровый лист? Undo "We were told that the aircraft needed refuelling as much of it was consumed while the aircraft was awaiting take-off. Following this, the aircraft moved to a bay, and the refuelling process started. It took around half an hour for refuelling, but we were still waiting to leave. All the flyers became anxious," he added. A detailed query on the issue was sent to an Air India spokesperson via a WhatsApp message, but a response from the airline was awaited till the time of going to press. Kochhar said when passengers started to question the cabin crew, they were told that one of the flyers had deboarded. "The crew informed us that one of the flyers chose to leave the aircraft. The staff said since a passenger deboarded, a fresh round of security checks needed to be conducted. This caused further delay, and cabin bags of all flyers were again checked," he said. "It is very surprising that the cabin crew did not offer the passengers any refreshments. We, being in the service, have always flown Air India, and this kind of attitude wasn't expected from the airline," Kochhar added. On May 30, a similar set of events inconvenienced more than 150 flyers travelling to Pune from Delhi on a SpiceJet flight. Flyers have demanded many times that during such events, they should be taken back to the terminal building rather than being kept in the aircraft.

Caught on cam: Moment when Delhi-bound IndiGo flight was about to touch down, but dust storms came in the way
Video: A scary moment was caught on camera, where a Delhi-bound IndiGo flight was about to touch down at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, but was forced to make a go-around after the inclement weather conditions, including dust storms in the capital, came in the way. Passengers held tightly to their seats as strong winds of up to 80 kmph forced the pilot to abort the landing and circle the sky until conditions improved. The flight eventually landed safely at the Delhi Airport. Flight operations at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport were adversely affected on Sunday afternoon when the city and the NCR region experienced massive dust storms, followed by rains in some parts. A total of 14 flights were diverted between 4:30 pm and 6:10 pm. (Photo by Sunil Ghosh / Hindustan Times) The diverted flights included two from Chandigarh, two from Amritsar, seven from Jaipur, one from Ahmedabad, one from Dehradun and one from Lucknow. In the wake of the sudden weather changes in Delhi, airline operators IndiGo and SpiceJet also issued travel advisories urging passengers to keep a tab on their flight status. SpiceJet added that arrivals and departures at and from the Delhi Aiport were likely to be affected due to inclement weather conditions in the capital. Commuters were thrown off guard as the sudden dust storm in Delhi caused visibility levels to dip, with the India Meteorological Department issuing a multi-hazard warning for NCR region and other states. In a weather bulletin issued at around 5pm on Sunday, the IMD said: 'Dust storm/followed by Thunderstorm with light rainfall and lightning (50-80 Km/h gusty winds) is very likely to occur at entire Delhi , NCR ( Noida, Greater Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, Manesar, Ballabhgarh) during next 2 hours.'

SpiceJet flight's passengers sit in aircraft for 3 hours in Delhi, reach Pune 4 hours late
1 2 3 Pune: Around 150 passengers of SpiceJet's Delhi-Pune flight (SG-477) reached their destination around 9.30pm on Friday, almost four hours behind the schedule and after sitting in the stationary aircraft in the national capital for about three hours. The flight was scheduled to depart from Delhi at 3.25pm and reach the city at 5.35pm. It was initially rescheduled to 4.50pm. The boarding started at 4.30pm, but the aircraft was airborne only around 7.30pm. Flyers remained seated in the static aircraft for almost three hours. They touched down in Pune around 9.30pm. SpiceJet denied that passengers were kept seated in the plane for three hours. "SpiceJet flight SG 477, scheduled to operate from Delhi to Pune on May 30, 2025, was delayed because of a last minute technical issue with the aircraft. Passengers were assisted throughout and were served with refreshments. Passengers were not kept onboard for three hours," a SpiceJet spokesperson told TOI. Puranjay Kumar Rana, a passenger of the flight, differed. "Until around 7.25pm, all flyers sat in the aircraft and were frustrated. It can't be possible that the airline realised that there was an issue with the aircraft after boarding. The flight was already delayed by an hour and checks must done much earlier." Rana said the cabin crew kept on saying that the aircraft would fly in 10 minutes. "After sitting in the aircraft for more than an hour, flyers began to lose their patience. The cabin crew, too, got frustrated and told many flyers that it was not their fault and why were we getting angry at them?" the flyer said. "There have been so many cases of airlines keeping passengers seated in the aircraft. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation and the civil aviation ministry should take some steps on this," Rana said.

Attention Flyers! IndiGo, Air India and SpiceJet issue advisory amid rain and winds forecast for Delhi
Indian airline operators IndiGo, Air India, and SpiceJet announced on Saturday, May 31, that flight operations from the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi are likely to be affected amid IMD's forecast for rain and moderate winds in the region. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Delhi and a few other states have been issued an Orange Alert warning of heavy rainfall and the possibility of thunderstorms in the upcoming days. IndiGo cited moderate winds and rainfall in Delhi for any potential delays in flight operations from Delhi Airport on Saturday, 31 May 2025. '#6ETravelAdvisory: Rain and moderate winds are forecast in #Delhi, which could affect flight operations. Please check your flight status before heading to the airport and allow extra time for your commute. Safe travels!' said IndiGo in its post. The airline also said that 'light showers and moderate winds' are expected throughout the day. 'The city may be cloaked in grey, but our flight schedule is mostly staying bright and on time. Light showers and moderate winds are expected through the day, and while they're perfect for a hot chai, they might slow down your drive to the airport,' said the airline. IndiGo also issued another advisory on Saturday, warning travellers of a 'slight delay' in flight operations on the nation's East coast due to persistent rainfall and thunderstorms. Silchar, Aizawl and Shillong are the primary areas where the flight operations are expected to be disrupted on Saturday. '#6ETravelAdvisory: As monsoon showers sweep across the eastern coast, intermittent heavy rains may cause slight delays in flight operations,' said IndiGo in an announcement on platform X. Air India also informed its passengers through a social media post on platform X that flight operations from Delhi are likely to be impacted by rain and thunderstorms in the region. They also advised people to keep some extra time allotted while travelling to the airport due to traffic situations. 'Rain and thunderstorms may impact flights to/from Delhi this evening. Please check your flight status and allow extra travel time,' said Air India in its post. SpiceJet also announced that due to the bad weather in Delhi on Saturday, all departures and arrivals from the Delhi airport are set to be affected. The company recommended travellers to check their flight status from the official website. '#WeatherUpdate: Due to bad weather in Delhi (DEL), all departures/arrivals and their consequential flights may get affected. Passengers are requested to keep a check on their flight status,' said the airline company in its social media post.
