Hyderabad rains: Three flights cancelled, nine diverted at RGIA

Heavy rains that lashed parts of Telangana, including Hyderabad, on Wednesday caused disruption to flight operations at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA). Airport authorities confirmed that three flights were cancelled and nine others were diverted due to adverse weather conditions.
The cancelled flights include IndiGo flights 6E 6684 (Hyderabad–Kochi), 6E 6486 (Hyderabad–Chennai) and 6E 6727 (Hyderabad–Ahmedabad).
Of the nine diverted flights, six were diverted to Vijayawada airport. These include IndiGo 6E 2065 (Delhi–Hyderabad), 6E 6747 (Jammu–Hyderabad), 6E 6819 (Kanpur–Hyderabad), 6E 6421 (Coimbatore–Hyderabad), 6E 6232 (Goa–Hyderabad) and 6E 6906 (Jammu–Hyderabad).
Three other flights, IndiGo 6E 432 (Patna–Hyderabad), 6E 5097 (Mumbai–Hyderabad) and SpiceJet SG 547 (Ahmedabad–Hyderabad), were diverted to Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport.
One flight, IndiGo 6E 6906 from Jammu to Hyderabad, was diverted to Tirupati Airport.

"On August 16, an IndiGo Airbus A321 aircraft tail touched the runway while executing a low-altitude go-around due to unfavourable weather conditions in Mumbai," IndiGo spokesperson said in a statement. The airline flight 6E 1060 departed from Bangkok at 12.12 a.m. (local time) against its scheduled departure time of 11.40 pm (local time) and finally landed at the Mumbai airport at 3.04 a.m. against its scheduled arrival time of 2.50 a.m., as per flight tracking website "Thereafter the aircraft carried out another approach and landed safely," the airline said. "We will be undertaking an investigation on this incident," a senior Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) official told PTI. Heavy downpour pummeled Mumbai and its suburbs, with some parts recording more than 200 mm rainfall in the wee hours of Saturday (August 16, 2025), inundating low-lying areas and affecting the transport services including movement of local trains and flights. Incessant rain continued to lash parts of the city in the morning with occasional heavy spells. The downpour began around 1 a.m. and continued into the early hours of the day, causing waterlogging in low-lying areas of the western and eastern suburbs. According to the IMD, several parts of Mumbai recorded more than 200 mm of rainfall between 8.30 a.m. on Friday and 5.30 am on Saturday. Following the standard protocol, the aircraft will go through necessary checks/ repairs and regulatory clearance before resuming operations, IndiGo said in the statement. "We are making all efforts to minimise any subsequent impact on our operations due to this incident," the IndiGo spokesperson added in the statement.

Over 350 flights were delayed, two were diverted, and over a dozen aircrafts executed go-arounds in the early hours of the day, Hindustan Times reported. According to the data compiled from Flightradar, a total of 360 flights were affected. It showed that 283 departing flights from the Mumbai Airport were delayed, while 77 inbound flights were running behind schedule. According to Hindustan Times' sources in Mumbai Airport, 15 aircraft bound for the city had to execute go-arounds on Saturday morning, aborting their initial landing attempt. While two flights were diverted to Nagpur and Ahmedabad. All the diversions and go-arounds were made between 12 am and 6 am on Saturday. In a separate incident, an IndiGo Airbus A321 experienced a tail strike at Mumbai Airport while attempting a low-altitude go-around. A senior DGCA official confirmed that the incident was due to unfavorable weather. The aircraft subsequently landed safely on a second attempt, with no injuries reported among the passengers or the crew, PTI reported. Thereafter, the aircraft carried out another approach and landed safely." These disruptions in flight operations happened after Mumbai witnessed heavy rainfall in the early hours of Saturday. The downpour, which began around 1 a.m., persisted through the day, with some parts of the city recording over 200 mm of rain, the news report said. The IMD reported that several areas of Mumbai received over 200 mm of rainfall between 8:30 a.m. on Friday and 5:30 a.m. on Saturday. Vikhroli in the eastern suburbs recorded the highest at 248.5 mm, followed by Santacruz with 232.5 mm, Sion with 221 mm, and Juhu with 208 mm.

Thereafter, the aircraft carried out another approach and landed safely," the statement reads. The airline stated that, as per protocol, the aircraft will undergo a detailed inspection, necessary repairs if required, and obtain regulatory clearances before returning to service. "Following the standard protocol, the aircraft will go through necessary checks/ repairs and regulatory clearance before resuming operations," IndiGo said. The airline also reiterated that safety is its top priority and efforts are being made to minimise any disruption to operations.
