Kelantan JKDM Seizes Chewing Tobacco Worth Over RM600,000 Including Taxes
Its director, Wan Jamal Abdul Salam Wan Long said that in a raid at approximately 4.30 am on Aug 4, a JKDM team from the Rantau Panjang enforcement branch, in collaboration with the Eastern Intelligence Zone through 'Operation Macan Legit II', seized six vehicles: a three-tonne Isuzu lorry and five Pajero four-wheel-drive vehicles.
"The inspection of these vehicles found 122 boxes of chewing tobacco, weighing 2,587.5 kilogrammes (kg), believed to have been illegally imported through 'rat lanes' at the border," he told reporters here today.
The value of the chewing tobacco seizure is estimated at RM59,512.50, while the total value of the seizure, including vehicles, amounted to RM474,512.50, with total taxes involved at RM151,536.93," he told reporters at a press conference here today.
He said all the goods were believed to be for the Klang Valley market, specifically for use by local consumers and workers from Myanmar, Nepal and Bangladesh.
He said a 29-year-old man, the lorry driver, was also arrested to assist in the investigation under Section 135(1)(e) of the Customs Act 1967.
"If offenders are found guilty, they can be fined not less than 10 times the amount of the Customs duty or RM100,000, whichever is greater, and not exceeding 20 times the amount of the Customs duty or RM500,000, or imprisonment for a term of between six months and five years, or both," he also said.
Wan Jamal Abdul Salam also urged the public to provide information regarding any smuggling activities through the Customs toll-free line at 1-800-88-8855 or the nearest Customs office, with the assurance that the informant's identity will be kept confidential.
"Smuggling not only causes a loss of state revenue but can also threaten the safety and well-being of the people," he added.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said firm and stringent action will be taken against any foreign national who violates Malaysia's laws, including breaching pass conditions, posing a security threat, or disturbing public order. He said actions taken include pass cancellation, blacklisting, and deportation to the country of origin, and this principle is applied consistently, irrespective of the individual's background or status. "Visa status, whether as a student, investor, long-term visit pass holder, or participant in the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) programme, does not provide immunity from the laws of this country. "The safety of Malaysians and the sovereignty of the nation are non-negotiable priorities," he said in a statement tonight. Saifuddin said the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) consistently carries out its enforcement duties in a professional manner, without discrimination or exceptions based on race or country of origin, particularly in cases involving foreigners. He added that the law investigates all reports involving foreign nationals and takes appropriate action to ensure public safety, including in cases that receive media coverage. "Recent incidents involving foreigners that have gone viral have drawn public attention, but it must be emphasised that each case will be handled properly through existing laws," he said. He further said that Malaysia has specified that the recruitment of low-skilled foreign workers is permitted only from 15 officially designated source countries, and China is not among them.

'Buli' pocket talk at Perlis Connect educates students on dangers, laws
PADANG BESAR: The government's commitment to tackling bullying has been translated into action through a pocket talk session titled 'Buli' (Bullying), held as part of the Perlis Connect programme at Padang Besar Street here on Saturday (Aug 16). The session, conducted by Inspector Harris Md Noor, Senior Investigating Officer of the Padang Besar District Police Headquarters (IPD), covered the definition of bullying, its various forms, the root causes of such behaviour and the legal provisions related to the offence. Students from several institutions of higher learning who attended said the programme provided them with greater awareness of behaviours that could lead to bullying and how to address them. Nurul Syafiqah Narul Hisam, 19, a Diploma in Manufacturing Engineering student at Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), said the talk deepened her understanding of bullying and made her more alert to such acts among her peers. "This session gave me exposure to the dangers of bullying. From now on, I will be more aware, and if I detect any bullying elements, I know the appropriate actions to take. "I can report it to the Student Representative Council (MPP) for further action, and if it is a serious case, it can be reported directly to the police,' she said. Another participant, Muhamad Haziq Ziqrie Mohamad Aziz, 18, a Foundation in Management student at Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Sintok, Kedah, said the talk not only informed him about the punishments for bullying but also served as a reminder for youths to stay away from such behaviour. Police and MCMC track TikTok user over fake Zara Qairina post-mortem claims
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) are tracking a TikTok user who falsely claimed to be a surgeon involved in the post-mortem of Zara Qairina Mahathir. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil stated that the individual falsely asserted his presence during the procedure on Aug 10. The Health Ministry confirmed the person was neither a specialist nor a staff member. Fahmi said the TikTok user spread misinformation during a live session, misleading the public. The false claims went viral, causing widespread confusion. He addressed the issue after launching the National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang 2025 campaign at the Teacher Education Institute (Malay Language Campus). Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad verified the false claims through an official report. Deputy director-general (Medical) Datuk Dr Nor Azimi Yunus confirmed the forensic team had no such specialist involved. The TikTok user has since set his account to private, complicating investigations. Fahmi warned the public against believing unverified social media content. Spreading false information is punishable by fines of up to RM500,000. Zara Qairina was pronounced dead at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kota Kinabalu on July 17.
