BJP councillors begin strike at JMC-H over corruption
2
Jaipur: Over 20 BJP councillors began an indefinite strike against JMC Heritage mayor Kusum Yadav, at the municipal corporation headquarters Wednesday, accusing the civic body of being neck deep in corruption and holding it responsible for poor sanitary conditions in Jaipur's Walled City area.
Councillors sang hymns and offered prayers for the mayor and commissioner. Yadav, an independent councillor from ward 74, was made the mayor in Sept 2024 with support of councillors from BJP. In JMC Heritage, the current board has BJP in majority.
"In the current board, fake land leases are being issued, and despite councillors informing the administration about the issue, no action is being taken. This is blatant corruption as land leases are issued only after all officials and the mayor sign it," said Subhash Vyas, a councillor part of the protest.
Councillors demanded that a fair investigation must be conducted by an agency and wrongly issued leases must be cancelled.
Councillor Manoj Mudgal, who is also the chairperson of the encroachment prevention committee, said, "In the general body meeting of JMC Heritage, a proposal of allotting Rs 1 crore for development work in each ward was passed. The amount was also sanctioned, but now funds are not being issued.

Sanitation conditions have already been deteriorating, and recently chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma also expressed displeasure over it.
"
They further said that beat sanitation workers are also not being given to councillors. For every ward, five beat sanitation workers, apart from regular waste collection, were also approved by the board.
Councillors said that until their demands are met, the protest will continue, and they threatened to go on a hunger strike in the coming days.
"Corruption is taking place openly, which will not be tolerated under any circumstances. In the Civil Line Zone, fake leases of govt land worth crores of rupees have been issued, which must be investigated impartially," added Mudgal.
Councillors from different wards, including Suresh Navriya, Uttam Sharma, Manak Sharma, Santosh Kanwar, Anshul Sharma, Jyoti Chauhan, Vikram Singh, Subhash Vyas, among others, joined the protest.
Despite attempts, mayor Yadav and commissioner Nidhi Patel, did not respond to calls for a comment.

"Draconian Act": Congress Slams Centre Over Constitution Amendment Bill
New Delhi: Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Wednesday criticised the 130th Constitution Amendment Bill that sought to allow the removal of the Prime Minister, Chief Ministers, and ministers if they were held on serious criminal charges. The Congress leader accused the ruling BJP of using its majority in Parliament to push through the bill with the intention of targeting the opposition. He called the move "draconian" and politically motivated. The 130th Constitution Amendment Bill seeks to remove the Prime Minister or Chief Ministers who are facing allegations of corruption or serious offences and have been detained for 30 consecutive days. Speaking to ANI, the Congress leader called the bill a political weapon and said, "The intention of the ruling side to pass this bill using its majority is not right. This will be used as a tool to target the opposition. This is a draconian act." He further questioned the timing of the bill, linking it to ongoing debates over the allegation on the Election Commission of 'vote theft'. "At a time when questions are rising against the Election Commission, there is panic in the ruling party, and this issue has now been raised to divert attention from it?" Adhir Ranjan told ANI. Earlier in the day, slamming the BJP government over the introduction of the 130th Constitution Amendment Bill in Lok Sabha, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin said that legislation, if passed, will allow the ruling party at the Centre to register false cases against Chief Ministers of the opposition parties and it will shake the democratic foundations of the country. In a post on X, Mr Stalin said that the BJP Government has decided to "defile" the Constitution."The 130th Constitutional Amendment is not reform -- this is a Black Day and this is a Black Bill. 30-day arrest = Removal of an elected CM. No trial, no conviction -- just BJP's DIKTAT. This is how DICTATORSHIPS begin: Steal votes, Silence rivals and Crush States," wrote Mr Stalin while condemning the bill. The Tamil Nadu CM pointed out that the introduction of the said bill is the BJP's government diversion tactic to bring the bill at a time when it is facing allegations over "vote theft". "After the expose of #VoteTheft, the very mandate on which the Union BJP Government was formed is in serious question. Its legitimacy is doubtful. Having stolen the mandate of the people through fraud, the BJP is now desperate to distract public attention from this expose. To do that, they have brought in the 130th Constitutional Amendment Bill," he said. Expressing faith in the judiciary, CM Stalin said that the Constitution Amendment bill will be struck down by the courts. Union Home Minister Amit Shah introduced the Constitution (One Hundred and Thirtieth Amendment) Bill, 2025, to further amend the Constitution of India and the Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill, 2025, apart from the bill to amend the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019. He also proposed sending the bllls to a joint committee of Parliament.

Pakistan extends airspace ban on Indian flights for another month
Pakistan on Wednesday extended its airspace ban on Indian aircraft until September 23. The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) issued a fresh NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) announcing the one-month extension, covering both civilian and military aircraft that are Indian-owned, operated, or leased."All aircraft operated by Indian airlines will not be allowed to use Pakistani airspace. The ban also remains in place for military and civilian aircraft that are Indian-owned or leased," the authority airspace closure was first imposed on April 23 for one month following the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, which killed 26 people. The initial ban barred Indian carriers from flying over Pakistan. India responded on April 30 with a reciprocal airspace closure for Pakistani aircraft, starting a series of tit-for-tat restrictions. The ban was first extended on May 23. In July, Pakistan further extended the closure until August 24, affecting hundreds of flights LOSES RS 1,240 CRORE IN AIRSPACE BANThe prolonged closure has hit Pakistan's aviation sector hard. According to Dawn, citing the Defence Ministry, the Pakistan Airports Authority lost over Rs 1,240 crore (PKR 4.1 billion) in just two months. The loss stemmed from transit charges as 100-150 Indian aircraft fly daily, cutting Pakistan's overflight traffic by almost 20 per Defence Minister Khawaja Mohammad Asif confirmed that the ban had caused significant revenue losses. "The closure has impacted our overflying charges and transit traffic severely," he restrictions have created major challenges for airlines, forcing longer routes that burn more fuel and stretch flight times. Carriers have also struggled with crew rotations and scheduling headaches, all of which are driving up operating costs.- EndsWith inputs from agenciesMust Watch
