There aren't many questions that stump Proteas speedster Kagiso Rabada. He normally answers the media's enquiries with confidence and in his own laidback manner.
But, during the World Test Championship final at Lord's, he took a couple of seconds to answer a question that had first come out on social media. It seemed innocuous at the time when the journalist posed the question, but it did make him think.
'A lot has made me stand out in recent times!' he joked, referring to the one-month ban he served after testing positive for cocaine.
He then said: 'My attributes … pace, bounce, movement and doing that consistently."
Star Australian batsman Steve Smith had the same response when he was quizzed about Rabada after the first day's play at Lord's when the South African fast bowler took five wickets on the first day of the WTC final.

'He's got good skills,' Smith said after the day's play. 'He can shape the ball away, he can nibble it both ways.
'He's relentless, he's always at you, he's always up for the challenge, he charges in all day. His record speaks for itself, and he showed that again today.'
On Monday, during a staff engagement meeting at Red Bull on a rather wet, cold and windy day in Cape Town, the same question was posed to Rabada, who went past the great Allan Donald in the all-time Proteas wicket-taking list during that WTC final win.
He was asked if he had 'stewed over the question a bit more' following their triumphant return from Lord's.
This time, however, his answer wasn't of a technical nature. It wasn't about his ability to nip the ball both ways with a wobble seam or deadly accurate bouncer. It was about a trait that makes the rise above the good.
'I guess it's about willing to sacrifice everything to get the result that you want. It's just determination,' Rabada said with a little smirk, as the room became all warm and fuzzy.

Verstappen says he would welcome Vettel having a role at Red Bull

Max Verstappen said he would welcome fellow four-times Formula One champion Sebastian Vettel back to Red Bull after the German spoke of possibly succeeding consultant Helmut Marko at the team. Austrian Marko, 82, a former racer who was blinded in one eye after a stone pierced his visor during the 1972 French Grand Prix in Clermont-Ferrand, has a contract until the end of next year. Vettel, 37, won consecutive titles with Red Bull from 2010-13 and retired in 2022 after stints at Ferrari and Aston Martin. 'It's more than normal that someone that has achieved so much with Red Bull, has been brought up by Red Bull (should return),' Verstappen told reporters at the Austrian Grand Prix on Thursday when asked for his thoughts. 'In a sense there's always a spot available, right? 'I think also Seb always kept a really good relationship with Helmut anyway, even when he left. I didn't know that of course they were talking but I'm sure that there's always a space for Seb in any kind of form.'

A new general for Chiefs: ‘Gerrard-like' signing arrives in SA

Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly welcomed English-based creative midfielder Ethan Chislett to Naturena. The 26-year-old attacking midfielder was born in Durban but spent most of his life in England. His father, Donovan, had a career in the Premier Soccer League in the 70s and 80s. According to FARPost , Chislett landed at OR Tambo International Airport on Thursday and was greeted by Amakhosi staff. This week, it was reported that he had signed a two-year deal with the option to extend with the Soweto giants. Chislett is regarded as a talented player, capable of playing as a number 10, number 8, or as a wide midfielder, similar to former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard. The 26-year-old spent the last two years with English club Port Vale where he made 68 appearances and scored 13 goals. His move to Chiefs comes at the right time where the club is seeking a creative player. His father, Donovan, told FARPost that his son was eyeing the potential of playing at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. 'Now with the 2026 [FIFA] World Cup coming up and the potential opportunities in South Africa, it seems like almost the perfect time,' he said. 'I'm looking for a fresh opportunity. I think my heart and mind are aligned, and they're set to South Africa, if possible,' Chislett said. Kaizer Chiefs will travel to the Netherlands next month to play several high-profile friendlies. Although the club has not announced any new players, five players have departed. Makazole Mapimpi: from rugby star to viral maskandi singing sensation on TikTok

Springboks rugby player, Makazole Mapimpi, stunned many by sharing his love for Maskandi and singing a popular Maskandi song. Image: Instagram In a surprising turn of events, Sharks and Springboks winger Makazole Mapimpi has showcased a talent that few knew he possessed: his singing voice. The rugby star captivated fans on social media by sharing a video on TikTok where he effortlessly belted out 'Abathakathi' by Govozile, a popular Maskandi song, while seated in his car. The clip has quickly gone viral, adding a new layer to Mapimpi's diverse skill set beyond the rugby pitch. Maskandi, a traditional South African music genre predominantly associated with the Zulu people, is an expressive fusion of local melodies and Western instrumentation, featuring guitars, concertinas, and violins. Often likened to "Zulu Blues", this genre weaves narratives of everyday life, social issues, and personal experiences - themes that echo Mapimpi's journey to stardom. In the video, Mapimpi not only displays his impressive vocal range but also engages in playful banter with his detractors. The lyrics resonate deeply with him, as they reflect themes of resilience and perseverance, qualities that have characterised his sporting career. It is a light-hearted dig at those who doubted his potential and dreams. His journey serves as an inspiration to many, embodying the very message conveyed in the song. Growing up in Tsholomnqa village in Mdantsane, East London, Mapimpi's path to becoming a Springbok was paved with challenges. Raised by his grandmother after the tragic loss of his mother, brother, and sister, he faced a stark reality that few of his peers would understand. Unlike many of his fellow Springboks, he did not hail from a prestigious rugby school, making his rise to fame all the more remarkable. Off the field, the determined winger has cultivated a flair for fashion, often sharing glimpses of his stylish outfits on his social media platforms. His posts, dedicated to showcasing his unique "drip", reveal a personality eager to express himself beyond rugby. The rugby season has been buzzing with excitement as South Africa prepares to kick off on June 28 with a match against the Barbarians at DHL Stadium as part of the Qatar Airways Cup. In a show of confidence, Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus has named a strong squad, including Mapimpi, for the opening stages of the international season, retaining a mix of seasoned players and newcomers, all set to make their mark as the Castle Lager Incoming Series looms.
