Surrey [Canada], July 20 (ANI): Kapil Sharma's Cafe Kap's Cafe is set to reopen after over a week since the firing incident which took place at the cafe in Surrey.
Comedian Kapil Sharma took to his Instagram account to share the news of the cafe reopening. He expressed his happiness by writing 'Proud Of You Team' for the staff of Kap's Cafe while sharing a post from the cafe's Instagram handle.
On July 10, several gun shots rang outside Kap's Cafe in Surrey at 1:50 (local time) am, according to Surrey Police Service. Police said some staff members were present inside the restaurant at the time of the shooting. No one was injured in the incident.
The cafe had opened early this week. At least 10 bullet holes could be seen in a window at Kap's Cafe, while another window pane was shattered.
The building where the cafe is located has retail units at ground level and residential apartments above, however, it is not known how many residents live in the building.
Multi faith centre and two other yet to be opened businesses occupy other ground-level units. Officers could be seen in the restaurant gathering evidence while children were playing across the street outside a daycare located in Newton neighbourhood that is now cordoned off by police tape, Vancouver Sun reported.
The staff of 'Kap's Cafe' described the incident as 'heartbreaking' and stated that they were 'shocked' by the unexpected firing at the restaurant premises.
The cafe also thanked the entire community for all the messages they had received and extended gratitude to the Surrey, British Columbia, police department for all their help in the matter.
Kap's Cafe shared a long, heartfelt note after the incident.
Titled 'A Message From Heart', the cafe wrote, 'We opened Kap's Cafe with hopes of bringing warmth, community, and joy through delicious coffee and friendly conversation. To have violence intersect with that dream is heartbreaking. We are processing this shock, but we are not giving up.'
The cafe said that they will stand 'firm' against the violence to keep the place a symbol of 'warmth and community' for its visitors.
'Thank you for Your Support. Your kind words, prayers, and memories shared via DM mean more than you know. This cafe exists because of your belief in what we're building together. Let's stand firm against violence and ensure Kap's Cafe remains a place of warmth and community,' wrote Kap's Cafe.
Spokesperson Staff Sgt. Lindsey Houghton said police are aware of reports in Indian media claiming that a Khalistani separatist has claimed responsibility for the shooting. (ANI)

Delhi court dismisses money laundering case against Ratul Puri, Moser Baer and 11 others

New Delhi [India], July 25 (ANI): The Rouse Avenue Court has dismissed a money laundering case against businessman Ratul Puri, Moser Baer India Limited, and 11 other accused persons, following their discharge in the main case registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Special Judge (CBI) Sushant Changotra on Thursday dismissed the Enforcement Directorate's complaint against Moser Baer India Limited, Ratul Puri, Rajiv Agarwal, Rajiv Saksena, Shivani Saksena, Ajit Singh Bubber, M/S Tanay Holding Ltd., M/S Matrix Group Limited, M/S Pacific International FZC, M/S Tiramisu Holdings INC, M/S Midas Metals International LLC, M/S Indian Hydro Electric Power Pvt Ltd. And M/S Hindustan Power Projects Pvt Ltd. Special Judge stated, 'Thus, in view of the aforementioned facts and settled proportion of law, I am of the considered opinion that the offence under section 3 read with section 70 and punishable under section 4 of PMLA does not survive.' ' Accordingly, the present complaint is dismissed. The proceedings of this complaint case stand closed,' Special Judge Changotra ordered on July 24. However, the court added that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) would be at liberty to reopen proceedings if the discharge order dated May 24, 2025, is set aside by a higher court. The present complaint case arose out of a predicate offence registered by the CBI vs. M/s Moser Baer India Ltd. & Ors under section 120-B, 420, 468 & 471 IPC and section 13 (2) r/w 13 (1) (d) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. Advocate Vijay Agarwal, appearing for Ratul Puri, argued that under Section 3 of the PMLA, the existence of 'proceeds of crime' is a sine qua non (an essential condition) for prosecuting a money laundering offence. Since the Special CBI Court had already discharged all accused on May 24, 2025, the money laundering charges could not stand. The court also considered the ED's arguments that the discharge order was not final until appeal, and references to the Supreme Court's pending review in ED vs. Gagandeep Singh, but held that such contentions had been exhaustively dealt with by the Delhi High Court. 26/11 attack case: Court seeks detailed reply from NIA on Tahawur Rana's plea for telephonic conversation

New Delhi [India], July 25 (ANI): Delhi's Patiala House court on Friday sought a detailed reply from the NIA on Tahawur Rana's plea for a telephonic conversation with his family and listed the matter for August 1. Rana is alleged to be the mastermind of the 2008 Mumbai Attack and is currently in judicial custody after NIA interrogation. He was extradited from the United States in April of this year. Earlier, he was allowed to have a telephonic conversation with his family only once. Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Chander Jit Singh, after hearing oral submissions, asked the agency to file a detailed reply. The matter was listed for hearing on August 1. Meanwhile, the jail authorities informed the court that he has been provided a bed. Legal Aid Counsel Piyush Sachdev appeared for Tahawur Rana. He confirmed that the detailed reply has been sought. On July 15, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) sought time to respond to a plea moved by Tahawur Rana, seeking regular telephonic conversations with his family. Jail authorities have filed their response. The court had allowed a plea of Rana seeking a direction to provide a bed and a mattress in Tihar Jail. The jail authorities had opposed the plea by submitting that, as per jail rules, inmates aged 65 or more can be provided a bed. Rana has attained the age of 65. On the other hand, it was submitted on behalf of Rana that he is 64 years 6 months and has medical issues. After considering the submissions, the court had allowed Rana's plea. Additionally, the NIA informed the court that it has provided the complete medical history of Rana to the Jail authorities. Earlier, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on July 9 filed a supplementary charge sheet against Tahawur Rana in the 26/11 Mumbai terror case. The court had extended the judicial custody of Rana till August 13. This supplementary charge sheet contains procedural documents like arrest memo, seizure memo and other documents, Rana's counsel Piyush Sachdev had told ANI. The main charge sheet was filed by the NIA in December 2011. On June 9, the Court had granted Tahawwur Rana permission to make a single phone call to his family for the time being. The call was strictly conducted in accordance with jail regulations and under the supervision of a senior official from the Tihar jail authorities. Recently, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) collected voice and handwriting samples from Rana, who was extradited from the United States. The NIA had previously informed the court that Rana was confronted with substantial evidence related to the 26/11 attacks. The agency argued for further custody, citing his evasive behaviour during questioning and lack of cooperation. Senior Advocate Dayan Krishnan and Special Public Prosecutor Narender Mann represented the NIA in the proceedings, while Advocate Piyush Sachdeva defended Rana. 64-year-old Canadian businessman of Pakistani origin, Rana, was extradited recently in connection with his alleged involvement in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. The devastating attack, orchestrated by Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed over 170 lives and left hundreds injured. (ANI)
