Channel 4 Amazing Spaces star 'charged with rape and sexual assault of woman at hotel'
A Channel 4 George Clarke's Amazing Spaces star has been accused of rape and sexual assault. James Catling allegedly attacked a woman at a pub and hotel in Great Tew, Oxfordshire. The alleged incident is said to have happened in September 2022. He was arrested on October 1 but was released under investigation.
Catling made an appearance on George Clarke's property show on April 15 this year as the Channel 4 programme featured his Airstream caravan refurbishment company. Last month, Catling was charged by post with one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault. He appeared at Oxford magistrates court on Tuesday.
Catling spoke to confirm his name, age and address. According to the Sun, Dr Andrew Rushbrook JP told him: 'You've heard what's been said today.
'We have to send this to the crown court, where all four offences you have been charged with will be dealt with together."
Catling was released on bail under the condition he does not contact the alleged victim. He is expected to appear at Oxford crown court next month.
His episode of Amazing Spaces is still available on YouTube and Channel 4's streaming site. It showed him adding 800 new parts to a 1947 campervan, costing almost £40,000.
He had flown to the US to buy the van before bringing it back to the UK. Architect and show host George Clarke told Catling he made the van look "brand new".
He also likened it to the "inside of a luxury private jet'. George added it was "the best Airstream restoration project I have ever seen."
Catling has since listed the van on eBay for £120,000. It is unclear when Catling's episode of Amazing Spaces was filmed. The broadcaster shared clips of Catling's appearance on the show to their YouTube channel that racked up thousands of views.
George Clarke's Amazing Spaces has been on air since 2012 and sees the presenter explore small and beautiful builds across Britain. Each episode sees him visit unique properties where the owners have made the most of their spaces.
Many stars of the show have revealed how they turned unconventional things such as old boats and vans into places to live. The latest series aired this year.
The Mirror has contacted Oxford magistrates court, Thames Valley Police and Channel 4 for comment.
