Loose Women pulled from screens all week as troubled talk show dealt another blow in ITV schedule shake-up

Daily Mail30-07-2025
Loose Women has been pulled from our screens all week as part of another ITV schedule shake-up.
The programme usually airs on the popular channel straight after This Morning at 12:30pm and wraps up an hour later.
But this week ITV are covering the Goodwood Races between 1pm and 4pm.
This means that after This Morning finishes at 12:30pm, the ITV Lunch Time News is on until 12:50pm, followed by ITV News London until the races start.
The new schedule will remain in place until the start of next week.
At the end of Monday's episode Loose Women host Ruth Langsford, 65, told viewers: 'That's it for today and actually for the rest of this week.
'We're not on this week because of the horse racing, but we will be back next Monday. Have a great afternoon!'
This isn't the first time that the popular programme has been cancelled in recent weeks.
Back on June 17 Loose Women was cancelled due to the coverage of the Royal Ascot.
Then weeks before on June 6 the show didn't air due to ITV airing the first Derby meeting from Epsom races.
In recent months Loose Women has hit headlines after it was revealed back in May that it has been axed for half the year and Lorraine's runtime has been slashed by 30 minutes, as ITV Daytime bosses announced huge cuts today with job losses in excess of 220.
Recently Loose lady Janet Street-Porter revealed which stars are at risk from brutal cost-saving cuts by ITV - and which panelists are safe.
The 78-year-old has shed light on the reality behind the looming cuts proposed by the broadcaster, which are set to impact several daytime shows.
Janet appears certain that the 'older' Loose Women stars are not likely to be cut, given they appeal more directly to the show's target demographic.
But she warns that newcomers, younger stars or those with less experience could be at risk.
'There are no plans to get rid of the older women despite what some people have said,' Janet said.
The Brentford-born writer said the panel programme has gained the trust of female viewers as a place where important female-centred topics are discussed.
'I think Loose Women has become a programme that is trusted by a lot of women because we talk about the issues that they are concerned about - whether it's female health, domestic violence or how politicians don't really understand working women,' she said.
'I think the show has managed to connect women who wouldn't otherwise have a voice.
'And it's delivered with a lot of laughs because we don't take ourselves too seriously.'
Loose Women producers are expected to cut celebrity guests from the show - and growing fears the ITV staple could even be cancelled within a year.
The long-running series usually welcomes a host of celebrities onto the panel to promote upcoming projects and have had the likes of Naomi Campbell, Elizabeth Hurley, Joan Collins, and even former Prime Minster Rishi Sunak appear.
But according to insiders, once ITV's budget cuts come into effect in January, Loose Women will no longer have A-list guests in the studio, and the broadcast is planned to only consist of the panel debating newsworthy topics from the week.

ITV The Fortune Hotel's Stephen Mangan hits back at comparisons to The Traitors

ITV's hit series The Fortune Hotel returns for a second series tonight - and host Stephen Mangan has addressed some fans' claims that the show is similar to BBC One's The Traitors ITV's gameshow The Fortune Hotel is back tonight, with a new cast of contestants hoping to take home a suitcase carrying £250,000 from the Caribbean resort. Hosted by actor Stephen Mangan, the new series is set to kick off with a major twist - as one couple is kicked off the show before they even make it to the hotel. ‌ Since premiering last year, the show has faced some comparisons to BBC One hit The Traitors - however, Stephen has insisted that the two series are very different. "I don't mind at all - The Traitors is a great show and there's plenty of room for more than one show," he told The Mirror in an exclusive chat. ‌ "I think it's clearly very different. We have those really tense sessions at the end but there's also a lot of fun in our show. It's really fun to watch. People are hilarious in it. ‌ "But I'm flattered by those comparisons. The proof of the pudding is always in whether people watch it and a lot of people watched out first series so that's the best thing really." Stephen Mangan spent a month in the Caribbean to film ITV 's The Fortune Hotel, but it wasn't all plain sailing - with the TV presenter admitting that it was 'tough' being away from his family for that long. ‌ The 57-year-old, who shares two sons with wife Louise Delamere, said: 'It was during term time so my family couldn't join hard phoning home when your wife's doing the school run in the rain in November and you're complaining about it being too hot on the beach. It doesn't go down very well.' As tensions rise and couples squabble, Stephen reveals that he struggles to watch the contestants bicker on the beach - which they do several times in the series. 'I don't like people falling out in front of me,' he says. 'I know some people go through life creating that drama but I'm not one of those people.' With the show now under his belt, Stephen admits that he now has no excuse not to do I'm A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here. 'I would like to say that I wouldn't want to go away from my family for that long to the jungle but clearly I'm doing it,' he says. While he's not too keen for the jungle, Stephen wants to bring back classic Channel 4 sitcom Green Wing after two decades. 'That would be fun to see them 20 years later,' he says. 'Comedy will always be my first love and I'll always come back to it.' The Fortune Hotel airs tonight at 9pm on ITV1.

Paddy McGuinness can't flog £6.5m mansion he shares with ‘unhappy' ex wife Christine who wants to move out

TELLY star Paddy McGuinness and his ex-wife Christine are struggling to flog the £6.5million home they share. The comic, 51 — known for catchphrase 'No likey, no lighty!' on dating show Take Me Out — has had 'very little interest' in the mansion. 2 He and Christine, 37, still live in the seven-bedroom Cheshire spread — now on the market for 4½ months — with their twins Leo and Penelope, 12, and eight-year-old daughter Felicity. It featured on their 2021 BBC show Paddy And Christine McGuinness: Our Family And Autism. Despite remaining in the house together to co- parent, Christine is reportedly unhappy with the current living situation and wants to move out. She and Paddy paid £2.1million for the home in 2020 and it has a gym, his and hers dressing-rooms, an orangery and planning permission for a rear extension and roof terrace. They stand to make a big profit but sources say it's quite a pricey house even for posh Prestbury in east Cheshire. One said: 'It's a lovely house with all mod cons in a fantastic location but there's been very little interest. 'It's the most expensive house in Prestbury on Rightmove but it appears the market's a bit flat right now.' Paddy and Christine announced their split in 2022 and finalised their divorce last year. Christine has said: 'We live in separate parts of the house.' Paddy said the family's living arrangement 'doesn't feel tricky'.

'Astonishingly rare' The Hobbit book sells for 'record-breaking' sum

An "astonishingly rare" first edition of The Hobbit has sold for a "record-breaking" £43,000 at copy of JRR Tolkien's novel is one of only 1,500 copies that were printed in 1937. It was discovered without a dustcover on a bookcase during a home clearance in was sold to a private collector in the UK through an online auction at Auctioneum in Bath, Somerset, Riley, the book specialist from the auction house, said: "It's the quintessential auction story. Everyone dreams of finding a rare item hidden in plain sight, and here we are." The book, which was only expected to fetch between £10,000-£12,000 at auction, attracted hundreds of bidders from all over the Riley said the book is in "absolutely beautiful condition" and she believed it sold for a record price for a first edition without a dustcover."House clearances can be tricky, stressful and troublesome... this could have so easily been sent to landfill, or disposed of by someone who didn't realise it was there," she added. The book came from the family library of Hubert Priestley who was a famous botanist in the 1930s and brother to the Antarctic explorer and geologist, Sir Raymond Edward Priestley. Priestley had strong connections to the University of Oxford where Tolkien stood as Rawlinson and Bosworth Professor of Anglo-Saxon and a Fellow of Pembroke men knew fellow author C.S. Lewis and it is likely that they knew each other."It's the connection to Tolkien and the important provenance that makes this book so special. It's not just any first edition; it belonged to someone who very likely called Tolkien an acquaintance," Ms Riley added it was astonishingly rare to find a first edition in such good condition. "Being a children's book, most of them have seen children's hands, children's colouring pens in some cases, so to have one that appears to be completely unread and never enjoyed is really, really astonishingly rare," she said. The Hobbit is one of the most successful children's novels, with more than 100 million copies story is set in the fantasy world Middle-earth and follows the hobbit Bilbo Baggins on a quest to find rare edition that was sold also includes rare drawings by Tolkien himself.
