Yahooa day ago
The Lightning are set to find out their full schedule for the 2025-26 NHL regular season on Wednesday, July 16, at 1 p.m. ET. Last year, the Bolts opened the 2024-'25 regular season on the road against the Carolina Hurricanes as the Tampa Bay Area was reeling from the devastation caused by Hurricane Milton. The home-opener was eventually rescheduled.
While we wait on the new schedule, the NHL has announced that the 2025-26 regular season will open on Tuesday, Oct. 7 with a tripleheader broadcast.
The Chicago Blackhawks will take on the defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers at 5 p.m. ET. Before puck drop, the Panthers will raise their second championship banner in a ceremony at Amerant Bank Arena.
The action continues at 8 p.m. ET as the Pittsburgh Penguins face the New York Rangers in a Metropolitan Division showdown at Madison Square Garden.
Capping off the night, the Colorado Avalanche will visit the Los Angeles Kings for a Western Conference battle at Crypto.com Arena, with puck drop set for 10:30 p.m. ET.
NHL Network will broadcast a special one-hour edition of NHL Tonight to cover the schedule release, hosted by Jamison Coyle, Mike Rupp, and E.J. Hradek. The special will also be available for streaming on NHL.com.

(AP Photo/David Dermer) ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — The Athletics placed dynamic rookie center fielder Denzel Clarke and infielder Max Muncy on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday. Clarke has an adductor strain and is likely to miss a couple of weeks, manager Mark Kotsay said Monday. Muncy was hit on the right hand by a pitch in Monday night's series opener at Texas and was replaced at third base by Gio Urshela. Although the A's said X-rays were negative, the injury will still force the rookie to miss some time. Advertisement Lawrence Butler made his second straight start in center Tuesday night. A day earlier against the Rangers, Butler made a leaping catch in front of the A's bullpen in left-center field to take a home run away from Kyle Higashioka. Clarke has made several spectacular catches this season. The A's recalled outfielders Colby Thomas and Carlos Cortes from Triple-A Las Vegas. Cortes is batting .322 with 17 homers and 77 RBIs in 71 games with Las Vegas. The 28-year-old would be making his major league debut. ___ AP MLB:

Bears' Ben Johnson reveals ‘70%' goal for Caleb Williams

The post Bears' Ben Johnson reveals '70%' goal for Caleb Williams appeared first on ClutchPoints. As the Chicago Bears officially begin training camp this week, head coach Ben Johnson has outlined an ambitious target for second-year quarterback Caleb Williams heading into the 2025 NFL season. Advertisement Speaking on a recent episode of the CHGO Bears Podcast, Johnson revealed he wants Williams to complete 70 percent of his passes this season. 'I told [Caleb] I would love for him on the season to complete 70% of his balls,' Johnson said. The Bears' rookies reported to training camp on Saturday, with veterans arriving Tuesday at Halas Hall. With on-field sessions now underway, Johnson and his staff are focused on elevating a young roster that finished 5-12 last season. At the center of that development is Williams, the 2022 Heisman Trophy winner and former No. 1 overall pick. Ben Johnson sets high bar for Caleb Williams as Bears build around second-year quarterback In his rookie year, Williams completed 62.5% of his passes, throwing for 3,541 yards, 20 touchdowns, and six interceptions. He also added 489 rushing yards on 81 carries. While his first season showed flashes of promise, Johnson's 70% goal would represent a significant leap in efficiency and execution. Advertisement Johnson, hired this offseason after serving as the offensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions, is expected to bring a more innovative and quarterback-friendly system to Chicago. The Bears also promoted Declan Doyle to offensive coordinator, adding further continuity to the offensive coaching staff as Williams enters Year 2. Chicago made several additions this offseason aimed at improving the supporting cast around its young quarterback, including upgrades at wide receiver and along the offensive line. With training camp underway, Johnson's high expectations reflect the organization's belief in Williams' potential to develop into a franchise cornerstone. The Bears will continue preparations over the coming weeks as they look to end one of the NFL's longest quarterback droughts and compete for a turnaround in the NFC North. Sixers star Paul George changes stance on Jazz rookie Ace Bailey

Utah Jazz rookie Ace Bailey caught a lot of flack for his draft strategy leading up to the June 25 night. He canceled a workout with the Philadelphia 76ers--who held the No. 3 pick--as well as workouts with every other team who had an interest in the Rutgers star. Bailey fell to the Jazz with the No. 5 overall pick and will look to make an impact in Utah. He averaged 13.5 points and 7.0 rebounds in two summer league games--both in Salt Lake City--for the Jazz. Advertisement Sixers star Paul George--who was a staunch Bailey supporter--questioned his draft strategy leading up to that night. On the latest episode of "Podcast P with Paul George", the Sixers' star changed his stance on the strategy: I want to kind of retract what I said. How can we get on a kid that kind of knows what he wants? We're not in his shoes. He wants to do it his way. He's good enough, he's got the talent, he's gonna go where he wants to go. That's his decision. It could have backfired, but it didn't. He's still in a great situation; he still gets to showcase what he could do. He had a great game too. He went crazy, showed his potential, a flash of it. Time will tell if Bailey will turn into the star player that many believe he can be with Utah. The Sixers, in turn, selected Baylor's VJ Edgecombe with the No. 3 overall pick as he looks to join a talented backcourt in Philadelphia. Bailey will look to give the Jazz that cornerstone piece they need to continue their rebuild.
