CAIRO, April 27 (MENA) - President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has highlighted promising investment opportunities available in Egypt that Australian companies could leverage.
During his meeting Sunday with Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia Sam Mostyn, Sisi emphasized the significance of Mostyn's first-ever visit to Cairo, marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations, which reflects the strength and depth of their historical ties.
The meeting took place at Al-Ittihadiya Palace, where an official reception ceremony was held, including the playing of the national anthems and a review of the honor guard, Presidential Spokesman Mohamed El-Shenawy said in a statement following the meeting.
He also praised the positive contributions of the Egyptian community in Australia, highlighting their active role in Australian society and the distinguished achievements of Australians of Egyptian descent across various fields.
The talks emphasized the importance of boosting economic, trade, and investment relations.
Sisi pointed to Egypt's attractive investment climate, particularly in sectors such as clean energy, green hydrogen, agriculture, tourism, technology industries, mining, and opportunities within the Suez Canal Economic Zone.
He stressed Egypt's commitment to localizing industries and boosting its production capacities.
Discussions also touched on enhancing cooperation in food security, including potential joint ventures in livestock breeding and related industries, facilitating Egyptian exports to the Australian market, and expanding cooperation in culture, education, and tourism.
In turn, Mostyn expressed strong support for deepening Australian investments in Egypt, highlighting the potential for cultural investment, especially in museums, given the great appreciation the Australian people have for Egyptian heritage.
The meeting also covered regional and international developments, with a particular focus on the situation in Gaza, as Sisi reviewed Egypt's intensive efforts to broker a ceasefire, facilitate hostage and detainee exchanges, ensure the entry of sufficient humanitarian aid, and reject the use of starvation as a weapon or means of collective punishment against civilians.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to the reconstruction of Gaza based on the relevant Arab-Islamic initiative and emphasized the urgent need to advance the two-state solution, establishing an independent Palestinian state in line with international legitimacy as the only path to achieving lasting peace and stability in the region.
Mostyn reiterated Australia's commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and its full support for Egypt's ongoing efforts to restore stability in the region.
She hailed the growing momentum in relations between the two countries and voiced hope that her visit would further boost cooperation.
Sisi invited Mostyn to attend the Grand Egyptian Museum's official opening ceremony, an invitation she warmly accepted. (MENA)
