France's Safran to set up Rafale engine maintenance unit in Hyderabad
The project is expected to generate around 150 jobs by the end of 2025. Additional phases could add up to 750 more positions, the report mentioned, citing a statement from the Telangana government.
Pierre Fernandez, general manager of Safran Aerospace, shared the update during a meeting with Telangana Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu. 'We look forward to expanding our presence with the upcoming Safran Aircraft Engine Services India, focused on LEAP engine MRO services and scheduled to be operational before the end of the year, as well as a newly announced fourth site to provide maintenance for the M88 military jet engine powering the Dassault Rafale,' Fernandez said.
Safran already runs two facilities in Hyderabad — one that manufactures electrical harnesses for CFM LEAP engines and Rafale fighters, and another that produces rotating parts for the LEAP engine's low-pressure turbine, the report added.
'Over the past few years, Safran has benefited from significant support from the Telangana government. We are proud to contribute to the region's dynamic aerospace ecosystem and to help position Telangana as a major hub for the aerospace industry in India,' the statement mentioned.
Earlier this month, Dassault Aviation and Tata Advanced Systems Limited also signed four Production Transfer Agreements to manufacture key structural sections of the Rafale aircraft in Hyderabad. This will be the first time the fuselage of the Rafale will be built in India, for both domestic and export markets, at a facility Tata Advanced Systems is setting up in the city.

These high-level engagements come in the wake of sharp criticism from Donald Trump, who labelled India and Russia as 'dead economies' and announced a 25 per cent tariff on Indian goods, along with penalties for countries maintaining strategic trade ties with Moscow. Senior Indian officials clarified that the proposed measures are aimed at India's deepening energy and defence cooperation with Russia. Since the onset of the Ukraine war, Russian crude oil's share in India's overall imports has surged from just 0.2 per cent to nearly 40 per cent, making India Russia's second-largest oil buyer after China. PhonePe's Indus Appstore to come preloaded on Alcatel smartphones as part of new partnership
French consumer technology brand Alcatel's smartphone will come pre-loaded with indigenously developed PhonePe's Indus Appstore under an agreement signed between the two companies, a joint statement said on Monday. PhonePe's Indus Appstore has a catalogue of verified mobile apps and games across 45 categories. It supports 12 Indian languages, enables voice search in 10 regional languages, and features a video-led app discovery experience that allows users to preview apps before downloading them. "Indus Appstore... announced a strategic OEM partnership with Alcatel, a French consumer technology brand. As part of this long-term partnership, Indus Appstore will come pre-installed as an app store on all Alcatel smartphones in India," the statement said. Alcatel is a trademark of Nokia used under licence by Chinese firm TCL Communication . NxtCell India holds exclusive brand authorisation from TCL to represent and operate the "Alcatel" brand in India and select international markets. "This collaboration enables Alcatel users to discover and experience apps through a homegrown platform that delivers true localisation and personalisation.
