School students to be made aware of water conservation, Ganga cleanliness

This initiative is part of the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat campaign and aims to inculcate moral and environmental responsibility in young minds.
The Uttar Pradesh Board of Secondary Education director has issued a circular to schools asking them to organise student-led activities focused on water literacy and the cleanliness of the Ganga throughout the academic year. Principal of KP Inter College Yogendra Singh said: "The order outlines a detailed year-long roadmap for schools.
It encourages student involvement in cleanliness drives along the Ganga, promotes water-saving practices on school campuses, and highlights the broader importance of preserving natural water bodies.
" To ensure holistic development, the academic calendar also includes initiatives under the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat programme, aiming to acquaint students with India's rich cultural, historical and geographical diversity.
Furthermore, schools are directed to include sports, cultural and literary events, and to observe key national and international days and weeks as part of their co-curricular schedule.
A key component of revised curriculum is experiential learning. Students will engage in field trips to local rivers, ponds and both rural and urban areas to study and report on regional water conservation practices. Awareness campaigns on road safety and importance of maintaining continuous and clean flow of the Ganga will be conducted. "These initiatives reflect state's commitment to building environmentally conscious citizens from a young age, using education as primary tool for sustainable development," he added.

UP govt launches programme to enrol out-of-school kids
Prayagraj: In a bid to ensure that no child is left behind in education, the Uttar Pradesh govt has launched an ambitious programme to identify and enrol out-of-school and dropout children aged between 6 and 14 years into age-appropriate classes. The initiative, spearheaded under the Sharda Programme, will offer special training to help these children catch up with their peers. School education director general Kanchan Verma has directed that the training of these children will commence on Aug 1 and continue until March 31, 2026. To make this mission effective, volunteers will be appointed to motivate children and reignite their interest in learning. Special training will be offered in areas where more than five out-of-school children are identified. Retired teachers or qualified volunteers will be selected as special instructors, and in their absence, nodal teachers from the local schools will conduct the training. According to basic shiksha adhikari (BSA) Devbrat Singh, children enrolled at these special centres will receive the same facilities as regular students. The selection will be merit-based, calculated through the average percentage of marks obtained in High School, Intermediate, Graduation and relevant teaching qualifications like DElEd, BTC or BEd. In the absence of professionally trained candidates, the merit will be prepared based on the academic marks alone. Retired teachers will be given preference. Selected volunteers will receive an honorarium of Rs 4,000 per month. A four-member subcommittee, comprising the school management committee's president, vice president, member secretary (headmaster-in-charge), and a parent member, will oversee the selection process. The selection process is to be completed before July 31. As many as 68,913 out-of-school children have been identified across UP. In Prayagraj alone, the number stands at 1,263 while in Pratapgarh it is 448, Amethi 333, and in the state capital Lucknow, 742 children will receive special training. The total number of special training centres in the state is 22,044, with Prayagraj hosting 411 of them. Nearby districts like Pratapgarh and Kaushambi will have 208 and 224 centres respectively. The basic education department has instructed that volunteer recruitment advertisements be displayed at panchayat buildings, secretariats, schools and other public spaces. Over 50K fill OTR for asst teacher recruitment
Prayagraj: Within just six days of announcement of 7,466 LT Grade (assistant teacher) vacancies in govt secondary schools in Uttar Pradesh, over 50,000 new candidates have filled the One-Time Registration (OTR) on the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) website. The OTR system, implemented by UPPSC in Jan 2023, streamlines the application process. Candidates are no longer required to repeatedly enter personal information or upload documents like photos and signatures for every recruitment. This has simplified and expedited the application process for various examinations conducted by the commission. As of July 14, the total number of candidates who completed OTR stood at 21.70 lakh. This figure has now surged to 22,26,555, out of which 22,25,909 candidates have completed verification, and 22,25,305 were allotted OTR numbers. Excitement among aspirants is evident as online applications for the LT Grade recruitment are set to begin on July 28, marking the first such largescale recruitment since 2018. Overwhelming display of devotion at Shiv temples as Shrawan begins
1 2 3 4 Prayagraj: The auspicious month of Shrawan began on Friday with an overwhelming display of devotion across major pilgrimage sites, as thousands of Lord Shiv devotees lined up prominent Lord Shiv temples to offer prayers and perform 'Jalabhishek'. A spiritual wave swept across the Sangam City as pilgrims from far and wide thronged Ganga ghats from the early hours, taking holy dips and filling their pots with Gangajal before proceeding to their destinations. To mark the occasion, 'Rudrabhishek' was also performed at various temples, with milk, curd and honey amidst Vedic chants by the priests. This year, Shrawan month commences from July 11 and will conclude on Aug 9. Since morning, a large number of devotees were seen flocking to local Lord Shiv temples to offer 'Jalabhishek', waiting patiently for their turn. Puja article shops were also bustling with crowds. While Prayagraj is known as the city of Lord Vishnu due to the Dwadash Madhav, it also boasts of special Shiv temples. These temples have been beautified, entrance gates have been built, and drinking water and seating arrangements have also been made."
