Prince Albert police make multiple arrests after string of arsons
The first incident was reported at around 9:15 p.m., at a gas station on the 200 block of 16th Street West where, police say a man allegedly stole a jerry can, lit it on fire, and assaulted one of the employees.
Officers intervened and arrested a 38-year-old man after a short chase on foot. He has been charged with assault, theft under $5,000, mischief under $5,000, arson, and resisting arrest.
Hours later at around 11:45 p.m., police saw a man lighting a home on fire on the 1000 block of 17th Street West.
Police say they quickly arrested the 34-year-old man without incident and put out the flames using a fire extinguisher from their patrol car.
The man has been charged with arson and failure to comply with a release order.
Finally, at around 10 a.m. Thursday, police were called to the area near the 200 block of 32nd Street West, after a man was reported to be lighting a vehicle on fire.
Officers arrived at the scene and found a man who matched the suspect's description. He was arrested without further incident. The 27-year-old accused faces charges related to attempted arson, mischief and breach of probation.

Woman charged with 2nd-degree murder over death of newborn in Kingston
Kingston Police say a woman has been charged with second-degree murder following the suspicious death of a newborn. The Major Crime Unit, along with the office of the chief coroner and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service, began investigating a death in the 1400 block of Albany Drive in the city's west end on July 27, according to a media release. Two days later, a 22-year-old woman was arrested and charged with improperly interfering with a dead body, police said. Following an investigation, she was "charged with the second-degree murder of a newborn child," the release said. "Due to the circumstances of the incident under investigation, no prior release was made, as there was no apparent risk to public safety," it continued. "This remains the case today." Police are asking anyone with information to contact detectives or Crime Stoppers. A spokesperson for the service said the investigation is ongoing and officers are asking anyone in the GTA who has information about what happened to contact them.

Hamilton police officer charged with assault in off-duty incident

Police said the involved civilian was also charged with assault.
