PM briefed On Higher Education Blueprint 2025-2035, Says Zambry
GENERAL
TAPAH, April 22 (Bernama) -- The preliminary briefing on the Malaysia Education Blueprint (Higher Education) 2025-2035 [PPTM 2025-2035] has been presented to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim ahead of its launch later this year, said Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir.
Zambry said the draft of the blueprint, which will offer a new dimension for the country's higher education landscape, had earlier been officially handed over to him by the committee established by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE).
'A preliminary briefing has already been given to the Prime Minister. We are just waiting for the right time to launch it this year,' he told reporters after attending the KPT@Tapah Outreach programme here today.
Zambry, before this, said that MOHE was in the final stages of completing the PPTM 2025-2035, as the current blueprint is set to end later this year.
Meanwhile, Zambry reminded Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) candidates who were not offered a place at higher learning institutions not to give up and to consider pursuing education through skills-based pathways.
'The education system and structure today have changed. It is no longer limited to just university pathways. Learning pathways are now broader and not confined solely to universities.
'Today, under the MADANI government, we have restructured the system to focus equally on technical fields alongside academic fields,' he said.
He said outstanding SPM candidates would not be left behind, as MOHE would assist them with available support.
Among the financial assistance programmes offered are foundation studies financial aid for public universities, financial aid for students with disabilities (OKU) and financial assistance for students at polytechnics and community colleges.

Build homes above park-and-ride lots, not train stations, says expert
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim recently proposed developing new people's housing directly atop or next to public transport stations to improve urban accessibility and sustainability. (MRT pic) PETALING JAYA : Instead of attempting to build homes directly on top of train stations, an urban design expert is proposing a more practical alternative: construct high-density residential units on their adjacent park-and-ride lots. Keith Tan of Taylor's University said constructing houses over existing stations was unfeasible due to major structural limitations, but many park-and-ride lots offered untapped potential. Keith Tan. 'It is very difficult to build new buildings directly on top of existing MRT or LRT stations unless the station was originally designed to accommodate vertical expansion within its footprint under a second phase,' the associate professor of architecture told FMT. Modern high-rise buildings typically rely on deep pile foundations topped with thick concrete rafts, which were impossible to install without closing or demolishing parts of a functioning transport terminal, he explained. 'In the case of park-and-ride lots, new elevated podiums or basement levels can be constructed to replace the lost parking and support both the public transport station and the residential building,' said Tan. Tan's comments come on the heels of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's proposal to develop new public housing atop or next to transport stations to improve urban accessibility and sustainability. However, this idea of transit-oriented developments (TODs) isn't entirely new in Malaysia, according to Siva Shanker of Rahim & Co International Sdn Bhd. Siva Shanker. Siva said the demand for TODs had surged in recent years, with some projects marketed as TODs even when the nearest station was 500 metres away. He said these homes often come with steep price tags, but that affordability could be achieved if the government intervened, especially on land costs. 'If the government owns the land and gives it to developers at a lower cost — say, RM10 per square foot instead of RM50 — that savings can be passed on to the buyers,' he said. With new rail lines planned in Johor Bahru and Penang, Tan said it was time to rethink how TODs are designed.

Selangor government urged to expedite repair works
SEREMBAN: Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun (pic) has called on the Selangor government to expedite repair works on the Genting Peras-Kuala Klawang road that was damaged by floods four years ago. He said the road, which connects Jelebu in Negri Sembilan and Hulu Langat in Selangor, could help ease traffic congestion, especially during festive seasons and school holidays, besides serving as an alternative route for motorists heading to Kuala Lumpur. 'The damaged section in Jelebu has already been repaired, but the part at the Selangor border isn't. I will write to the Selangor Mentri Besar urging prompt repairs. Since it was damaged in 2021, we have not been able to use the route fully. 'If the road is repaired, it can become an alternative route to the Klang Valley. Motorists won't have to go through Seremban; they can go via Genting Peras from Jelebu into Hulu Langat and straight to Kuala Lumpur or Selangor,' he told Bernama at a press conference after chairing the state executive council meeting here yesterday. The Kuala Klawang-Genting Peras road has been closed to traffic since December 2021 after it was damaged by floods and landslides. Meanwhile, Aminuddin, who is also the Port Dickson Member of Parliament, said the state government has allocated RM1mil for a solar-powered lighting programme in rural areas, including Orang Asli villages. 'The RM2mil allocated by the Public Works Department for lighting is insufficient, as there are still poorly lit areas, so we've added another RM1mil. This is to ensure that attention is given to marginalised rural areas. It's part of ongoing efforts to enhance road safety and provide comfort and security to road users,' he said. On a separate matter, Aminuddin also extended condolences to the families of the 15 Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris students who perished in the accident along the East-West Highway near Gerik on Monday.

‘Madani reform agenda advancing,' says Azalina as over 30 laws amended under current govt
KUALA LUMPUR, June 12 — The Madani government has delivered the Parliamentary Services Act 2025 and spearheaded more than 30 legal amendments since 2023, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said. 'This is not mere rhetoric. It is concrete evidence that the MADANI Reform agenda is very much alive and advancing,' she said in a Facebook post yesterday. Azalina said she agreed with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's statement yesterday that reform efforts should not be rushed, but rather approached as a structured process requiring thorough consideration. 'Systemic reform is never instantaneous, and for good reason. As policymakers, our duty is to ensure that every reform is not only ambitious but also implementable. There is no wisdom in putting the cart before the horse. 'Let's be clear, the #MADANI government has laid the foundations for reform at a pace unmatched by previous administrations. The results speak for themselves. #MADANIBekerja,' she added. She also invited the public to visit the PetaRI portal, developed by the Legal Affairs Division of the Prime Minister's Department at which regularly updates the progress of the reform initiatives. — Bernama
