Italian National Day: A night of lights, music, and unity in Delhi
Even the sultry weather in Delhi didn't dampen the spirits of dignitaries who gathered on Wednesday for the Italian Republic Day reception at the residence of Italian ambassador Antonio Bartoli.
Paper fans in shades of Italy's flag were provided to guests upon arrival, helping them stay cool as they mingled. The atmosphere was lively and festive, enhanced by the Indian Air Force band's performance of some classic 'jugalbandi' tunes.
Another highlight of the evening was when Franz Cerami, a world-renowned artist, presented a specially crafted visual performance for this event. Locus Amoenus promised to be a one-of-a-kind experience of light and sound.
The culinary offerings were a true Italian affair, with dishes such as baked lasagne, tiramisu, and wild mushroom risotto.
Chief guest of the evening, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, began his speech by extending best wishes to the government and people of Italy on the occasion of their National Day. He expressed gratitude for Italy's solidarity and support to India following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.
Referring to Operation Sindoor, India's measured response to the attack, he said: 'India gave a firm, resolute and measured response by destroying the relevant terror centers and launch pads. India's right to defend its people against acts of terror has also been recognised by countries across the world. We believe the world must have zero tolerance for terrorism and cross-border terrorism.'
On the occasion, Bartoli remarked, 'This is an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to the values of democracy. Italy is dedicated to peace and dialogue among nations, which is what the world needs most in these troubled times. The band of the Indian Air Force just played our national anthems, and having them on stage underscores our deep respect for the Indian armed forces and our closeness to the victims' families. We stand in strong rejection of any form of terrorism.'

India and Italy to strengthen cooperation in agriculture, food processing: Commerce Ministry
New Delhi [India], June 6 (ANI): India and Italy will strengthen cooperation in agriculture and food processing, and set up Joint Working Groups in the automobile and space sectors, the Minister of Commerce & Industry said in a release. The decision was reached during a high-level meeting held between Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, Piyush Goyal, and Italy's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, in Brescia--Italy's manufacturing hub. The two leaders co-chaired the 22nd session of the India-Italy Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation (JCEC), during his 2-day visit to Italy, which concluded on June 5, 2025. The JCEC saw robust participation from senior officials, policymakers, and stakeholders from both sides in a spirit of constructive engagement and mutual ambition. The dialogue reaffirmed the strategic economic partnership between the two nations and aligns with the Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025-29 to promote economic resilience, industrial partnerships, and inclusive, sustainable growth. India and Italy agreed to prioritise cooperation in several emerging and strategic sectors. These include Industry 4.0, aerospace, energy transition, and sustainable mobility. The two sides also stressed the importance of joint efforts in skill development, digital transformation, migration and mobility, as well as global connectivity initiatives such as the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC). Several concrete outcomes emerged from the JCEC. Both sides identified collaboration opportunities in sustainable agri-value chains, agri-machinery, food packaging technologies, and renewable energy. They also agreed to work together in areas such as green hydrogen and biofuels and expressed intent to facilitate the movement of skilled professionals between the two countries. On the sidelines of the JCEC, a high-level Growth Forum was organised, bringing together CEOs and industry leaders from both countries. The platform proved valuable in identifying emerging business opportunities and industrial collaborations of mutual interest. A strong Indian business delegation comprising top leadership from nearly 90 companies accompanied the Minister during the visit. The delegation visited Italian industries and held several meetings with local companies. Shri Goyal also held one-on-one interactions with Italian corporate leaders and welcomed their plans to expand operations, manufacturing, or establish presence in India. On the occasion of World Environment Day, Goyal and Deputy Prime Minister Tajani visited A2A, a leading Italian waste-to-energy company in Brescia. The visit highlighted opportunities for collaboration in the clean energy sector. In a symbolic gesture under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Ek Ped Maa ke Naam' initiative, both leaders planted saplings in memory of their mothers at the Santa Giulia UNESCO heritage complex in Goyal's visit was instrumental in highlighting the growth and opportunities in the Indian economy, and further enrich growing bilateral commercial and economic linkages, the release added. Mr. Goyal completed a two-day visit to Italy on June 5, following a three-day visit to France. India, Italy get into a huddle over critical mineral squeeze
India and Italy Thursday cautioned against some countries' dominance on critical minerals and how the over-dependence on these key components of semiconductor, aerospace industry and EV batteries can be reduced. Commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal said the concentration of critical minerals and their supply chains in a few geographies can hurt economic development of countries while Italian Deputy Prime Minister and foreign minister Antonio Tajani said the private sector of the two countries can consider forming joint ventures in this segment. The concerns assume significance as China possesses around 90% of rare earth magnet supplies. "On Wednesday, I met Italian companies which are already working on processing of critical minerals. I think it is important that the world recognises the danger of critical minerals, and supply and processing being concentrated in particular geographies which at any point of time can hurt economic development," Goyal said after the India-Italy Strategic Economic Partnership Forum here. This will help reduce "our over-dependence and over-reliance on certain critical minerals," the minister said. "Why should only China be present in Africa and South America? We believe India too can play a role. India is a protagonist in the Indo-Pacific area. There is Africa, Mediterranean Sea, Suez Canal - several points can fuel joint ventures between India and Italy," Tajani said.
