India and Italy to strengthen cooperation in agriculture, food processing: Commerce Ministry
New Delhi [India], June 6 (ANI): India and Italy will strengthen cooperation in agriculture and food processing, and set up Joint Working Groups in the automobile and space sectors, the Minister of Commerce & Industry said in a release.
The decision was reached during a high-level meeting held between Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, Piyush Goyal, and Italy's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, in Brescia--Italy's manufacturing hub.
The two leaders co-chaired the 22nd session of the India-Italy Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation (JCEC), during his 2-day visit to Italy, which concluded on June 5, 2025.
The JCEC saw robust participation from senior officials, policymakers, and stakeholders from both sides in a spirit of constructive engagement and mutual ambition. The dialogue reaffirmed the strategic economic partnership between the two nations and aligns with the Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025-29 to promote economic resilience, industrial partnerships, and inclusive, sustainable growth.
India and Italy agreed to prioritise cooperation in several emerging and strategic sectors. These include Industry 4.0, aerospace, energy transition, and sustainable mobility. The two sides also stressed the importance of joint efforts in skill development, digital transformation, migration and mobility, as well as global connectivity initiatives such as the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC).
Several concrete outcomes emerged from the JCEC. Both sides identified collaboration opportunities in sustainable agri-value chains, agri-machinery, food packaging technologies, and renewable energy. They also agreed to work together in areas such as green hydrogen and biofuels and expressed intent to facilitate the movement of skilled professionals between the two countries.
On the sidelines of the JCEC, a high-level Growth Forum was organised, bringing together CEOs and industry leaders from both countries. The platform proved valuable in identifying emerging business opportunities and industrial collaborations of mutual interest.
A strong Indian business delegation comprising top leadership from nearly 90 companies accompanied the Minister during the visit. The delegation visited Italian industries and held several meetings with local companies. Shri Goyal also held one-on-one interactions with Italian corporate leaders and welcomed their plans to expand operations, manufacturing, or establish presence in India.
On the occasion of World Environment Day, Goyal and Deputy Prime Minister Tajani visited A2A, a leading Italian waste-to-energy company in Brescia. The visit highlighted opportunities for collaboration in the clean energy sector. In a symbolic gesture under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Ek Ped Maa ke Naam' initiative, both leaders planted saplings in memory of their mothers at the Santa Giulia UNESCO heritage complex in Brescia.Piyush Goyal's visit was instrumental in highlighting the growth and opportunities in the Indian economy, and further enrich growing bilateral commercial and economic linkages, the release added. FPIs sold equities worth ₹8749 crore this week, however sharp turnaround seen after RBI rate cut
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 7 (ANI): Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) began the first week of June on a weak note in the Indian stock market, with net investments staying in the negative territory. According to data released by NSDL, FPIs pulled out a total of ₹ 8,749 crore from Indian equities during the week from June 2 to June 6. This indicates that foreign investors were net sellers in the market during most of the week. The withdrawal came amid global uncertainties and cautious investor sentiment. However, a sharp turnaround was seen on Friday after the Reserve Bank of India's Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) announced a surprise rate cut of 50 basis points. The repo rate was reduced to 5.5 per cent, which gave a strong push to investor confidence. Market experts believe that this aggressive rate cut will boost India's economic momentum and improve overall demand conditions. With inflation staying within the RBI's comfort zone and the central bank indicating a pro-growth stance, FPIs are expected to increase their investments in the coming months. Ajay Bagga Banking and Market expert told ANI "June first week saw roller coaster in terms of FPI flows. The trend is positive as a weak US dollar is inversely correlated to EM flows. With Indian macro showing strength and expectations of the 100 bps rate cuts providing a further boost to economic momentum and aggregate demand, FPIs will rank India as a top investment destination. Valuations are quoted as a constraint but we see the growth potential overriding these concerns eventually". Although high stock market valuations remain a concern, experts say that India's strong growth prospects may help overcome this challenge. The net foreign portfolio investment (FPI) inflows in May remained in positive and stood at ₹ 19,860 crore, making May the best-performing month so far this year in terms of foreign investment. In previous months' data also showed that FPIs had sold stocks worth ₹ 3,973 crore in March. In January and February, they had sold equities worth ₹ 78,027 crore and ₹ 34,574 crore, respectively. Eid al-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to God. The day is marked by prayers, charitable acts, and the ritual sacrifice of animals, with a message of sharing and empathy at its core. The date changes every year, as it's based on the Islamic lunar calendar, which is about 11 days shorter than the Western 365-day Gregorian calendar. Eid al-Adha is called Id-ul-Adha in Arabic and Bakr-Id in the Indian subcontinent, because of the tradition of sacrificing a goat or 'bakri'. It is a festival that is celebrated with traditional fervour and gaiety in India. (ANI)
