Halimie Abdul from Rawang reached that milestone with an unforgettable twist when he won a brand-new BYD Seal electric car before even completing his driving lessons.
'I'm in the midst of completing my driving lessons and never imagined I would own a car so soon,' said Halimie, recalling the moment he learned he was the grand prize winner. 'When I heard my name, I froze in disbelief. It was an overwhelming moment of joy that brought me to tears.'
Halimie's journey to this unexpected win began with a simple action – requesting a free motor insurance quote on BJAK.com.
The BJAK 8.8 Mega Giveaway, held from 15 July to 8 August 2025, offered Malaysians the opportunity to win prizes worth over RM500,000, ranging from smartphones and gadgets to household essentials and the grand prize, a BYD Seal electric car.

On the night of the livestream announcement, hosted by Ceddy Ang, Scha Alyahya and Awal Ashaari, Halimie followed the event from his home.
As prize after prize was revealed, he assumed his chance had passed until his phone rang.
The campaign drew over a million entries, yet it was Halimie's story that resonated most. The BYD Seal, worth over RM180,000, will be his first car.
For now, it will remain parked until he obtains his licence, although he already knows his first drive will be shared with his parents.

KUALA LUMPUR: Harian Metro, in collaboration with its strategic partner DRB-Hicom Bhd, is organising a proverb-themed pantun competition open to secondary school students across Selangor. 'Pertandingan Pantun Bertemakan Peribahasa DRB-HICOM bersama Harian Metro 2025' reflects DRB-Hicom's commitment as a leading player in Malaysia's automotive industry and Harian Metro's role as a mainstream media outlet in strengthening their brand presence among the younger generation. The initiative also serves as a vital platform to promote the literary art of pantun while discovering and nurturing students' talent and creativity — ensuring this cultural heritage remains alive for generations to come. The competition is also supported by Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) and the Selangor Education Department. Harian Metro group editor Husain Jahit said the newspaper is excited to host its first pantun competition in partnership with DRB-Hicom. "This competition provides an important platform to reinforce the role of Malay literature as a national heritage. "It not only encourages appreciation of pantun and proverbs but also nurtures a more creative, competitive, and culturally proud generation of students. "To ensure the accuracy and fluency of Malay language and literature throughout the competition, we've partnered with DBP, which will provide the official panel of judges. "We hope this event will attract young people to appreciate and preserve the beauty of pantun so it won't be forgotten," he said during the launch at Balai Berita Bangsar today. He added that the competition is made more special as it is held in conjunction with the 68th National Day and Malaysia Day 2025 celebrations. This reflects the true spirit of Malaysia — diverse yet united," he said. The competition is open to students from Form One to Form Six at government secondary schools across Selangor. The quarter-finals and semi-finals will take place on Sept 23, while the grand final is scheduled for Sept 29, at Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka. Each team must consist of three performers and one reserve, and the registration period runs from Aug 12 to Aug 31. To qualify, each team must respond to three pantun stanzas published by Harian Metro. They must upload their reply along with a link to an interactive pantun video via a provided Google Form. The initial screening will be conducted by the Selangor Education Department, which will select the top eight teams to advance to the quarter-finals, where pantun performances will be held live before a panel of judges. From there, four teams will advance to the semi-finals, and the top two teams will compete in the finals, where they will present a theatrical pantun performance, combining poetry with acting elements. Judging for the quarter-finals, semi-finals, and finals will be handled entirely by a DBP-appointed panel and a representative from the Selangor Education Department.

Malaysia needs 100,000 more engineers
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is currently facing a shortage of about 100,000 engineers to meet the country's development needs, says Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi. He said the current number of registered engineers had yet to achieve the ideal ratio of one engineer for every 100 Malaysians. "At present, we have only 200,000 registered engineers, and we still need about 100,000 more to meet demand," he said after officiating the 2025 National Engineering Convention (NEC 2025) here today. Nanta said that efforts to address this shortage were already underway, particularly through the enhancement of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes. "I welcome the announcement by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to expand TVET programmes, with a target of 60,000 participants. We are confident this initiative will help us meet the 100,000 engineer target soon," he said. He also stressed the importance of retaining engineering graduates within the field, noting the challenge of attracting them to other sectors due to higher starting salaries. "We do not want engineering graduates to switch careers. The government is exploring ways to ensure they remain motivated and committed to pursuing engineering careers," Nanta said. The ministry is examining strategies to make the engineering profession more appealing, including creating an environment that offers better job prospects for graduates. On the recent motorcycle accident on Persiaran Mokhtar Dahari here, Nanta said that the incident occurred in an area under the responsibility of the state government and its appointed concessionaire. "If the accident was caused by road damage, I urge the concessionaire to take swift action to prevent similar incidents in the future," he said. A report by Infrasel Sdn Bhd and the Selangor Public Works Department (JKR) indicated that the accident took place near a housing project, where road conditions had become sandy.
