WWE Raw superstar Kiana James is close to returning to the ring after being out for a year. The report comes from Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
The update on James's status indicates her long absence from WWE programming is nearing its end. Meltzer stated, "Kiana James is close to returning."
This news signals that her recovery process is in its final stages. WWE fans can expect to see her back on television soon.
Kiana James Nears WWE Return
James has been out of action since June 2024 following a leg injury. Her last match was on the June 17, 2024, episode of Monday Night Raw.
She competed in a Triple Threat Money in the Bank qualifier against IYO SKY and Zelina Vega. The injury, which occurred shortly after, required surgery and an extensive rehabilitation period.

The timing of the injury stalled her career momentum. She was drafted from NXT to Raw just two months earlier in the April 2024 WWE Draft.
Before being sidelined, James made her main roster debut with a victory over Natalya. The win positioned her for a solid push on the Raw brand before the injury stopped her progress.
Kiana James' Road to Recovery
By September 2024, reports confirmed she was dealing with a leg injury. WWE then moved her to its internal miscellaneous roster list, which is standard for injured talent.
The initial recovery was expected to take at least six months. More recently, James was reportedly on the verge of being medically cleared and was seen training with Charlotte Flair.
During her time in NXT, James made a name for herself with her businesswoman character. She had a notable run as a heel and captured the NXT Women's Tag Team Championship alongside Fallon Henley.
Throughout her time away, it has been reported that James has impressed many within WWE with her strong work ethic and dedication to her recovery. In May 2025, reports suggested she was on the verge of being medically cleared. Recently, James was seen training with former champion Charlotte Flair, further fueling speculation that her return is imminent.
During her tenure in NXT, James made a name for herself with a businesswoman gimmick. She had a notable run as a heel, which included capturing the NXT Women's Tag Team Championship alongside Fallon Henley, who would later become a rival.

Sylvester Stallone shares what set Hulk Hogan apart in Hollywood during 'Rocky III'

Hulk Hogan "was in a class of his own," former "Rocky III" co-star Sylvester Stallone claimed. Stallone recalled the experience filming the Rocky Balboa classic with Hogan in the new documentary about the wrestling superstar, "TMZ Presents: The Real Hulk Hogan." The WWE star, who died July 24 at age 71, starred in a mix of action films, family comedies and reality TV hits that cemented his place as a true pop culture icon. Hogan was rushed to the hospital after medics responded to a call from his Clearwater, Florida, home about a cardiac arrest. Hogan made his acting debut in 1982 alongside Stallone in "Rocky III." He portrayed the wrestling champion of the world, Thunderlips. In the film, Hogan took part in a major exhibition match opposite Stallone. "He was so … I mean, I can get moody. He never got moody," Stallone said about Hogan's demeanor while filming. "He was always self-deprecating, loud, welcoming." He added, "When I first saw him, I said, there's certain people … that have a light. There's a glow. They just have it." Hogan previously revealed that he had actually been fired from his wrestling job for taking on the role in "Rocky III." "Because back in the day, the barbaric thinking was – wrestlers don't do movies," he said in 2017. Stallone opened up about what it was like working with the young Hogan, who hadn't quite found his stardom in wrestling yet. "When he was playing the character of Thunderlips, he hadn't quite got his act together. He hadn't gotten his voice and his presentation. So what you're seeing there is the really young Hulk Hogan at the very inception of his career as an actor and, of course, a superstar in wrestling." Stallone noted it was surprising to him that he was never injured while wrestling on set with Hogan. "Because when people say, 'Oh, wrestling's not real' – gravity is real," Stallone explained. "You have a guy 300 pounds landing on you, but he's breaking the fall. So he's actually hurting himself to protect you. And that's what a lot of people don't see. And you realize, he was so incredibly concerned about my welfare and not his own." Stallone paid tribute to Hogan immediately following the wrestler's death. "I had the pleasure of meeting this brilliant personality and showman when he was 26 years old," Stallone wrote on Instagram. "He was absolutely wonderful and his amazing skill made 'Rocky' three incredibly special. My heart breaks." "He just came in, and you just knew that this guy had a glow about him. He was a force to be reckoned with," Stallone later told TMZ. "He was just at the beginning of his career," he continued. "He hadn't quite come into his own yet, so we got him at a point where he was enthusiastic."

Legendary WWE referee Charles Robinson hospitalized after being bitten by a bat

Charles Robinson has spent all these years as a wrestling referee worrying about a bat being used as a weapon, but it would be the flying creature that actually got him. The legendary ex-WCW and current WWE referee revealed Wednesday morning that a bat bit him and he landed in the hospital. 'Great way to start the morning. 2:00am and got bit by a bat,' Robinson wrote in an Instagram post featuring a photo of him in a hospital bed and a video of him receiving medicine. 'That's right a bat! 4 hours later in the ER and six shots. #animalattacks #hospital.' 4 Charles Robinson in a hospital bed. @wwerobinson/Instagram 4 Robinson receiving an injection. @wwerobinson/Instagram Robinson, 61, appeared to be taking it in all in stride. The photo he posted of himself in the hospital bed featured him in a silly pose with his tongue out, while he also posted a photo of the bat with the all-caps caption: 'BAD BAT!!!' 'This is the culprit that got me. Such a cutie! #bat #animal,' Robinson wrote with the photo, which showed the bat's's fangs. 4 The bat that bit Robinson. @wwerobinson/Instagram This scare followed Robinson suffering a cracked rib while refereeing the main event of a July 'Saturday Night's Main Event' between Goldberg and then-world heavyweight champion Gunther. Goldberg accidentally — in storyline — speared Robinson during the match, and Robinson posted an X-ray showing the cracked rib. 'Thanks @goldberg95! Never fear…I am ALL MAN and I can't be kept down!' Robinson wrote. 'I will return for @wwe #smackdown next week in #SanAntonio! #wrestling #nofear Robinson made his name in WCW in the late '90s and early 2000s, especially during his run as Ric Flair's chosen referee, going by the nickname Lil' Naitch. He eventually moved to WWE — then known as WWF — after it purchased WCW, and he now works for the 'Smackdown' brand. 4 Charles Robinson holds a bat alongside Randy Orton. @wwerobinson/Instagram Wrestling content creator Chris Van Vliet reported earlier this year that Robinson became the first WWE referee to call matches across four decades.

Rory McIlroy Discloses Real Reason for Sitting Out Playoff Opener

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. After Justin Rose's dramatic playoff win at the FedEx St. Jude Championship last week, the PGA Tour's postseason now shifts to Caves Valley Golf Club in Maryland for the BMW Championship. During the first playoff, one storyline that dominated headlines was Rory McIlroy's absence at the opener in Memphis. The grand slam winner was the only eligible player who chose not to compete at TPC Southwind and remained silent until Wednesday. (Photo by) More Getty Images One day before teeing off at the BMW Championship, the World No. 2 addressed the controversy head-on. "There's been a lot of discourse about should these playoffs be mandatory," McIlroy told reporters during the pre-tournament press conference. "Obviously I didn't play last week, and is that something they need to look at?" McIlroy went on to suggest a revamped playoff format, one that resets points after each leg to create true elimination rounds. "I've heard this idea kicked around, where everything resets after Wyndham and then the top 70 just play for the top 50 spots to get into the next week, and then everything resets again here, and then the top 30 from this week then make it to the Tour Championship," he explained as quoted. "If you want to try to make it straight playoffs and elimination, I think that would be a good way to go." Still, the Northern Irishman made it clear that even with stricter rules, he would've skipped Memphis. "I'm playing nine more events this year, including trips to the United Kingdom, India, Dubai and Australia," he stated during the same conference. "That extra week off will do me good with the events coming up." At 36, McIlroy emphasized the importance of managing his schedule and body, especially with the Ryder Cup and Race to Dubai title chase looming. "A lot of the guys aren't 18 years into their professional careers, either," he added. "I feel like I'm in a little bit of a different position than some of the guys." Despite the absence during the opening playoff event, McIlroy held firm at No. 2 in the FedExCup standings and remains a favorite to contend at East Lake next week. He'll tee off Thursday at 11:16 a.m. ET alongside world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, marking his first competitive round since finishing T7 at The Open Championship. Meanwhile, defending BMW champion Keegan Bradley returns to Caves Valley hoping to replicate his win last year and secure a Ryder Cup spot. With only 49 players in the field following Sepp Straka's withdrawal, every shot this week carries weight. More Golf: Paige Spiranac Makes Emotions Clear Amid Tommy Fleetwood's All-Class Moment
