S. Korea Arrests US Citizens Over Bottles to North

South Korean authorities have arrested six American nationals for allegedly attempting to send plastic bottles filled with aid and religious materials across the sea to North Korea from Ganghwa Island, located in the port city of Incheon.
According to South Korea's Yonhap News Agency, the group, ranging in age from their 20s to 50s, was caught in the early hours of Friday trying to launch about 1,300 plastic bottles. Each container was reportedly filled with rice, one-dollar bills, and copies of the Bible.
The group was discovered by a coastal surveillance unit, which immediately
notified
the police. Ganghwa Island has been designated a restricted zone since November under an administrative order that prohibits sending leaflets or any materials toward North Korea, as part of efforts by the South Korean government to reduce provocations and maintain cross-border stability.
The individuals are currently being investigated on suspicion of violating South Korea's Disaster and Safety Management Act. Authorities are interrogating with the assistance of translators, as the suspects do not speak Korean.

Israeli Airstrikes Pound Southern Lebanon: Over 20 Raids Shake Nabatieh
Ahmed Emam Israeli warplanes launched a series of intense airstrikes on southern Lebanon late Friday, in what has been described as one of the heaviest escalations in recent weeks. According to Al-Qahera News, the raids struck multiple locations, with the heaviest bombardment focused on the skies over Nabatieh, as well as targets both south and north of the Litani River. Sanjab reported that the assault involved no fewer than 20 airstrikes, suggesting a large-scale offensive. The strikes created a fierce belt of fire across parts of the Nabatieh district, triggering successive explosions that echoed across southern Lebanon and were heard as far away as the cities of Tyre and Sidon and surrounding regions. Sanjab added that new explosions were heard following the initial wave of attacks, indicating either continued bombardment or secondary strikes on additional targets, leaving the security situation in southern Lebanon highly tense and on alert. Slaughter masquerading as humanitarian aid: MSF slams US-Israeli aid scheme in Gaza - War on Gaza
Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has called for the immediate dismantling of a controversial US- and Israeli aid group in Gaza, denouncing it as 'slaughter masquerading as humanitarian aid'. In a statement on Friday, MSF condemned the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), set up last month by the US and Israel, saying it 'is degrading Palestinians by design, forcing them to choose between starvation or risking their lives for minimal supplies'. MSF has demanded the project be 'immediately dismantled'. The announcement comes as the United States has authorized providing $30 million to the group, a US official said on Tuesday, despite growing criticism of its operations. It also comes as conditions in Gaza continue to deteriorate under Israel's blockade and genocidal war on the territory. On Thursday, Israel shut crossings into northern Gaza, blocking the most direct route for aid to reach hundreds of thousands of Palestinians at risk of famine. The closure followed yet more killings of civilians waiting for food. Gaza's civil defence agency said 56 people were killed in another string of Israeli attacks on Thursday, including six who had gathered at two separate aid distribution points. At least 549 Palestinians have been killed and 4,066 injured by Israeli forces while trying to access humanitarian aid over the past month, the Government Media Office said. In a statement posted to Telegram on Wednesday, the office described the so-called 'American-Israeli aid centres' as 'death traps and traps for daily mass killing and luring' that have, within a month, become sites of repeated massacres. It said the killings occurred as Palestinians attempted to reach food amid 'a policy of starvation and comprehensive siege'. Since the GHF began operations, UN efforts to deliver aid through existing humanitarian frameworks have been repeatedly obstructed by Israeli military restrictions, ongoing airstrikes, and widespread lawlessness on the ground. The UN has warned that the GHF lacks neutrality and has undermined established, more effective aid systems that previously functioned in Gaza. At least 11 more Palestinians were killed in Israeli air and drone strikes in southern Gaza on Friday morning, according to the Palestinian news agency WAFA. Warplanes reportedly bombed a tent sheltering displaced people in al-Mawasi, a declared 'safe zone' south-west of Khan Younis, while drones struck the Bani Suheila and Sheikh Nasser neighbourhoods. Another person was reported killed in a separate Israeli air raid on the town of al-Qarara. Since the war began on 7 October 2023, Israel has killed at least 56,156 Palestinians in Gaza, the majority of them women and children, according to Gaza's health ministry. *This story was edited by Ahram Online. The warning comes amid what has been described as an unprecedented Israeli military escalation in northern Gaza and the eastern areas of Khan Younis in the south, resulting in extensive destruction of residential neighborhoods. Israeli military operations in Gaza continue to escalate. The areas of Jabalia al-Balad in northern Gaza and the eastern parts of Khan Younis have become the epicenters of intense fighting in recent weeks, witnessing heavy bombardments and ongoing ground incursions. The Israeli army has reportedly deployed explosive-laden robots in Jabalia town, sending them into densely populated areas at short intervals as part of complex raid operations. Meanwhile, Israeli warplanes have carried out severe airstrikes on civilian homes, forcing residents to flee their houses and move westward toward Gaza City, after receiving repeated evacuation warnings through direct phone calls from Israeli forces. In Khan Younis, particularly in the Ma'an and Sheikh Nasser neighborhoods, massive explosions have been reported due to intense artillery shelling. The Israeli ground invasion is ongoing in the eastern towns of the province. Nearly all these areas have suffered systematic bombardment and destruction, with estimates indicating that more than 90% of eastern Khan Younis has been almost completely demolished. Areas such as Baten Al-Sameen are currently under further bombardment and bulldozing operations.
