Matt Cameron Denies He's Retired Following Exit From Pearl Jam

Yahoo15-07-2025
Matt Cameron might no longer be sitting behind the kit for Pearl Jam, but the decorated drummer has refuted the notion that he's officially retired.
Cameron announced last week (July 7) that after more than a quarter century spent keeping the beat for the Seattle grunge icons, he had left the group. 'After 27 fantastic years, I have taken my final steps down the drum riser for the mighty Pearl Jam,' he announced in a statement.

'Much love and respect to Jeff [Ament], Ed [Vedder], Mike [McCready] and Stone [Gossard] for inviting me into the band in 1998 and for giving me the opportunity of a lifetime, filled with friendships, artistry, challenges and laughter,' he added. 'I am forever grateful to the crew, staff and fans the world over. It's been an incredible journey. More to follow. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart.'
However, while Cameron hasn't publicly detailed the reasons leading to his decision, he has however taken to social media to reveal he's far from done with the music game.
As Rolling Stone reports, Cameron took to his Instagram account to share a since-expired Story that gave an update as to his current status. 'Thank you for the kind words of support,' he wrote, 'and for the record, I'm still an active musician.'
Cameron joined Pearl Jam in 1998, serving as the drummer for every one of their albums from 2000's Binaural until 2024's Dark Matter. His joining the band occurred just one year after the initial dissolution of Soundgarden, with whom he had sat behind the kit since 1986.
Having been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017 as a member of Pearl Jam, Cameron will become the latest two-time inductee upon Soundgarden's inclusion in November 2025.
Though Soundgarden officially split for good following the passing of frontman Chris Cornell in 2017, Cameron has performed with his bandmates at various reunion performances since, including a December benefit gig under the moniker Nudedragons with vocalist Shaina Shepherd in December.
Members of Soundgarden had also previously been announced as performers for the recent Back To The Beginning farewell concert for Ozzy Osbourne at Villa Park in Birmingham, England on July 5, though ultimately did not attend.
'We are very grateful to Tony, Ozzy, Geezer and Bill, as well as Sharon Osbourne and music director, Tom Morello for the honor and invitation to Soundgarden to perform at the Back to the Beginning festival!' a post on Soundgarden's official Instagram account read this week.
'We are super bummed and regret that we were unable to coordinate the schedules of our individual and collective projects to attend and contribute to the festival.'

Gerard Piqué Shares Romantic Photos With His Girlfriend, Clara Chía Marti, in Arizona

THE RUNDOWN Gerard Piqué confirmed his relationship with Clara Chía Marti in January 2023, just seven months after he and Shakira publicly ended their 11-year relationship. The former FC Barcelona soccer player shared a selfie with Marti on Instagram at the time, marking their first post together after months of dating rumors. Prior to that, the pair had already been seen together in public, beginning in August 2022. Since going public, the couple has largely kept details of their relationship under wraps. Most recently, Piqué shared photos from a trip to Arizona, suggesting they're still together despite past speculation of a split. Little is publicly known about Marti outside her relationship with Piqué. She is originally from Barcelona and was a public relations student in 2022, according to multiple outlets, including Marca and The Sun, but she has not given any interviews or made public statements herself. Below, everything to know about Marti and her relationship with Piqué. Three months after Piqué and Shakira confirmed their separation, he was photographed with Marti at the Summerfest Cerdanya music festival in Catalonia. A few days later, they appeared together again at a wedding in Costa Brava, where they were seen holding hands. As of August 2022, Marti was reportedly employed in the public relations department of Kosmos, the sports and entertainment production company founded by Piqué. According to The Sun, sources said at the time, 'She is a student who also works for him in his office, organizing events.' Despite her proximity to Piqué, Marti has largely avoided the spotlight. Her Instagram account is private with a limited number of followers, including Piqué himself. Over the past three years, Marti and Piqué have taken several trips across Europe and beyond. They've been photographed in Monaco, Prague, Morocco, and, most recently, Arizona. According to Hola!, they visited Antelope Canyon in July 2025, and Piqué shared photos from the trip. One showed the couple kissing in front of the desert landscape. Piqué captioned the post simply, '🧡.' In a February 2025 appearance on Spanish TV show La Revuelta, Piqué spoke about how his life has been transformed since beginning his relationship with Marti. 'I've changed styles, as you mentioned before,' he said. 'My style is different now; I'm doing better in both areas. We're always evolving.' He added, 'I'm really good—really.' The couple became Instagram official in January 2023, when Piqué shared a selfie of the two without a caption. A second photo followed in May of that year. Since then, Marti has appeared occasionally in his feed, including during their trip to Abu Dhabi in October 2024 and to Arizona in July 2025. Piqué is currently 38 years old, and Marti is 26. In April 2024, the couple celebrated her 25th birthday with a trip to Madrid for the King's League final per Hola!. They were photographed together at the airport.

Fan scared by bug sparks stampede after pop icon's concert, hurting 11

A stampede after Beyoncé's Atlanta concert last week that was reportedly started by a fan being scared by a bug injured at least 11 people, according to Billboard. The incident happened at Vine City Station as concertgoers gathered to use the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) to get home from the 'Cowboy Carter Tour' show at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on July 15. Videos on social media captured crowds pouring into the station and an escalator malfunctioning, throwing people on top of each other as a result. Billboard reported the stampede was caused by a fan who had screamed after seeing a bug. MARTA told the outlet that 11 people were injured in the incident. 'One person suffered a broken ankle, seven people were transported to the hospital with cuts and scrapes, and one person declined transport,' a MARTA spokesperson told Billboard. 'Two people requested medical assistance after reaching their destinations. MARTA Police on scene reported that a person began screaming and running, causing a stampede on the escalator that caused it to temporarily speed up and then stop suddenly.' The spokesperson added, 'MARTA Police on scene said there was a scream and witnesses said the person who screamed was reacting to an insect. I believe there's also video on TikTok of a woman claiming it was a 10-year-old relative who screamed when she saw a bug.' The escalator was later barricaded and was said to be under investigation, Billboard reported. The frighting ordeal happened on the fourth and final night of Beyoncé's Atlanta run on the 'Cowboy Carter Tour.' Also in Atlanta, Beyoncé's choreographer and dancer were robbed on July 8, with some of the superstar's unreleased music and touring plans being stolen. The final stops on the 'Cowboy Carter Tour' are on July 25 and 26 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. Rock legend's daughter battling cancer says immunotherapy is making her ‘sicker'

Teddi Mellencamp says her treatment for her stage 4 brain cancer is making her 'sicker.' Mellencamp, daughter of rock legend John Mellencamp and 'Real Housewives of Beverly Hills' alum, has revealed the toll her immunotherapy treatments have taken on her. 'Essentially, what we figured out with me was, yes, I started out feeling great, and I could do all the pods and I could do all these things, and I could go to all my daughter's horse shows and I could stay at my house by myself, and I felt really strong,' Mellencamp said on the Wednesday, July 23, episode of her and Tamra Judge's 'Two Ts in a Pod' podcast. 'What's happening with me is the longer that I'm on immunotherapy, the sicker it's making me,' she explained. 'I'm on steroids and we're doing everything that we can to get me back to feeling like I, you know, I can do this, I can do all the things.' In a clip posted to Instagram Wednesday, Mellencamp said she 'cannot control exactly how I feel on each given day,' adding that she wants to take advantage of the days she's feeling 'really good.' The 44-year-old mother of three also expressed her commitment to keeping the podcast on schedule and 'would rather have somebody step in' when she's unable to. 'We're really working with a team of people to try and get me as healthy as possible,' Mellencamp said in the clip. She said in another Instagram post on Feb. 26 that she had four tumors removed, but revealed in March that she had more tumors than doctors originally thought. 'I have multiple tumors in my brain that weren't able to be removed via surgery,' Mellencamp wrote in an Instagram post on March 6. 'I also have two tumors in my lungs. These are all metastases of my melanoma,' she added. 'The doctors are hopeful that immunotherapy will effectively treat them. I am feeling positive — that I will win this battle." She told Us Weekly that the cancer had spread and doctors found four new tumors. 'I'm fighting for my life, but also for my family's life and all the people I love,' Mellencamp told the outlet, adding that her doctors believe she 'will be healed if everything stays on course.' In an Instagram video that she posted on April 23, Mellencamp said that all her tumors had either 'shrunk or disappeared.' 'I just finished with all of my scans and my tumors have significantly shrunk, which doctors believe means that this all will work, and that I will be back to myself and feeling good,' Mellencamp said. 'I'm going to keep a positive outlook because that's the way my doctor just spoke to me.' She shared on Instagram in March 2022 after the cancerous mole was removed. 'This is a reminder to please go get your yearly skin checks,' she wrote at the time. 'I am doing my best to stay present and positive as I head to TV today. Grateful that I am busy to keep my mind from racing as I await the results.' Mellencamp was on 'The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills' from 2017 to January 2024. She has three children with her ex-husband, Edwin Arroyave, the CEO of a security company. She also has a stepdaughter, Isabella Arroyave. The couple separated in October 2024 after 13 years of marriage, Us Weekly reported at the time. Mellencamp also asked her father if the family's mausoleum would have space for her children.
