Noida admin warns bulk waste generators to set up compost units within 15 days
The directive was issued during a workshop held at Panchsheel Balak Inter College in Sector 91, attended by owners of hotels, restaurants, hospitals, schools, colleges, apartment owners' associations, and other bulk waste producers, officials added.
'If the bulk waste generators do not set up compost processing units, the authority will stop collecting their waste after the 15-day deadline,' said Indu Prakash Singh, officer on special duty (OSD), Noida authority. 'We've advised them several times in the past. It's time they cooperate so Noida can perform better in the upcoming Swachh Survekshan,' Singh added.
According to the solid waste management rules, any entity producing over 100 kg of waste daily is classified as a bulk waste generator and is mandated to process wet waste through composting.
Experts at the event urged stakeholders to segregate dry and wet waste and highlighted that composting can be done easily on-site. Citizens were also advised to report construction and demolition waste issues via helpline 18008919657. The authority currently treats 300 tonnes of such waste daily at its Sector 80 facility, officials said.
The move is aimed at improving Noida's ranking in the Union housing and urban affairs ministry's Swachh Survekshan survey, authority officials said. In 2023, Noida was ranked 14th nationally and received five-star ratings in garbage-free and water-plus (wastewater recycling) categories. 'We hope that in the 2024-25 survey, Noida performs better and secures 1st spot,' Singh added.

Both air crew successfully ejected using the Martin-Baker US14A (NACES) Seat,' it said. The new total climbed to 7,788. On the same day, Martin-Baker reported a different accident. 'Earlier today, a Finnish Defence Force (FDF) F/A-18C Hornet crashed while practising for an air show near Rovaniemi in Lapland. The pilot successfully ejected using the Martin-Baker SF-14A (NACES) Seat,' the company posted. That made it 7,789 lives saved. Yet something did not add up. The numbers 7,785 and 7,786 never appeared with any public incident. That gap pointed to at least one unreported crash, possibly two. The company's next public update came on July 31. 'Yesterday, an A-29A Super Tucano was involved in a midair collision over Porto Ferreira. The pilot successfully ejected using the Martin-Baker BR10LCX Ejection Seat,' it posted. That brought the total to 7,793. No Indian Air Force crash matched the missing figures. The only loss in that period was a Jaguar on a training sortie. Both pilots died without ejecting. The mystery could have an answer. On Saturday, Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh said India's S-400 Triumf air defence system had shot down five Pakistani fighter jets during an 88-hour conflict in May. Pakistan's JF-17 and F-16 fighters carry Martin-Baker ejection seats. The Chinese-built J-10s do not. The timing of the missing figures fits the days of the conflict. That makes a strong case that at least three Pakistani pilots pulled the Martin-Baker handle and lived to tell the tale. The British company stayed silent on the combat link. Its numbers, however, spoke volumes.

11k saplings planted in green drive
Indore:The Union minister of state for Defence Sanjay Seth participated in a large-scale tree plantation drive in Indore on Sunday under the Ek Bagiya Maa ke Naam campaign. During the event, 11,000 saplings were planted each at the BSF campus and near Gandhinagar police station behind Pitru Parvat. The campaign has set a target of planting 51 lakh saplings. Seth praised Indore's commendable contribution to environmental conservation. Fertilisers to be distributed from today in Jewargi and Yadrami
Kalaburagi: In the last two days, 1,000 tonnes of urea fertiliser stock has arrived in Jewargi, and distribution to farmers will commence on Monday from 22 centres in Jewargi and Yadrami. Speaking to The TOI, Jewargi MLA Dr Ajay Singh stated, "No farmer should face hassles while purchasing urea. No one should cheat farmers by creating artificial deprivation." He clarified that he already informed the Agriculture, Revenue and Welfare Department of Jewargi taluk for strict action. Responding to the press reports of farmers struggling in the queue for urea, Singh formed teams comprising the revenue, agriculture and health departments, including nine centres in Jewargi town, where urea and DAP will be distributed across all 22 centres in Yadrami and Jewargi taluks. Intensive monitoring is in place to ensure that the fertilisers are distributed to farmers in need. The MLA added, "We have already informed the Jevargi and Yadrami tahsildars and agriculture officer Chandrakanta Jeevnagi." Singh further stated, "1,000 tonnes of urea has been stocked in the past two days, including the 600 tonnes that now arrived in Jewargi. Farmers should not worry for any reason.
