Muzaffarpur rape case:

India Gazette2 days ago

Patna (Bihar) [India], June 4 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sanjay Jaiswal on Wednesday slammed RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav for raising questions on the NDA-led Bihar government over the alleged negligence in the treatment of minor girl who was allegedly raped and murdered in Muzaffarpur.
Jaiswal said that efforts were made to save the girl, and actions have been taken against the individuals who made her wait in the ambulance for hours outside the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH).
Lambasting at Bihar LoP Yadav, the BJP leader counter-questioned him over the administration system and law and order maintenance during the reign of former Chief Minister and his father, Lalu Yadav.
'All efforts were made to save her. The delay which occurred in PMCH was sad. Actions have been taken against the accused. The government itself is not present everywhere; the system of government is there. Action was taken on the shortcomings found in the system. Can't Tejashwi see that the accused of the incident was nabbed within 12 hours of the incident. In his father's time, what happened with Shilpi Jain and Champa Vishwas, will Tejashwi apologise for that?... ' Jaiswal told ANI.
Earlier on June 2, lashing out at the 'double-engine' government in Bihar over the alleged rape and murder of a minor girl in Muzaffarpur, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav alleged 'administrative anarchy' in the state as law and order has 'collapsed'.
'The double-engine government has failed in Bihar. The CM never discussed this; I am unsure if he is even aware of the incidents. Law and order have collapsed. There is administrative anarchy in the whole of Bihar. No action is being taken... No one has time to meet the victim or the victim's family. The CM and both the Deputy CMs are busy in political programmes,' Tejashwi Yadav said.
This comes after a 10-year-old girl, who was allegedly raped and attacked on May 26 in Muzaffarpur, succumbed to her injuries at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) on June 1. Her relatives alleged that the child was left waiting in an ambulance for several hours before she was admitted to the hospital.
On Monday, Bihar Health Minister Mangal Pandey condemned the alleged rape and brutal assault of a minor girl in Muzaffarpur as 'extremely sad and painful,' assuring that immediate action has been taken and justice would be delivered through a speedy trial.
His remark comes amid mounting public anger and political outrage after the victim, attacked on May 26, succumbed to her injuries at a Patna hospital on June 1.
'Soon after the incident, the accused was arrested. The Muzaffarpur SSP has assured that a chargesheet will be filed promptly and a speedy trial will follow to ensure justice,' Pandey said.
The accused had been arrested and sent to judicial custody, said Muzaffarpur SSP Sushil Kumar on Monday.
'This incident occurred on May 27...The accused lived in a neighbouring village and knew them. He used to come there often. He was a fish seller. He lured the girl and raped her. Taking swift action, the Police arrested the accused. He has been sent to judicial custody. The FSL team had gone there, and the spot was examined. All samples have been collected, including samples from clothes too,' Kumar said.
'We have sent all of this to FSL for examination. Besides this, we will file a chargesheet within 15 days. This will be brought under a speedy trial, so that we can take whatever further action is required,' he added.
Meanwhile, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of media reports detailing the tragic death of the victim on June 1 at PMCH, and has sought a detailed report from the state authorities. (ANI)

'Census delay no accident, delimitation not a coincidence', says Stalin

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president MK Stalin on Friday accused the BJP-led central government of deliberately delaying the national Census and orchestrating the delimitation process with a hidden agenda. Calling the Census delay 'no accident' and the delimitation exercise 'no coincidence,' he said, 'The danger I warned of is at our doorstep.' In a post on social media, he alleged: 'There is a sinister design in how the BJP-led Union Government is implementing the national Census and the subsequent delimitation. Developed states, especially in the non-Hindi speaking South, which followed population control norms, will now be punished.' He argued that states which disregarded population control for years would be rewarded with additional seats in Parliament. This, he said, distorts the federal structure and unfairly benefits neglect over progress. Stalin noted that he had already 'warned about this design' and cited senior Congress leader P Chidambaram's detailed explanation of 'how this sleight of hand is unfolding.' He said it was time to remain vigilant and prepare strategies to defend the South's representation. 'The 2027 Census will form the basis for the next delimitation, replacing the 1971 data. This gives the Union BJP government the means to restructure parliamentary representation to its advantage, at the cost of the southern states,' he alleged. While the Ministry of Home Affairs has stated that the concerns of affected states will be considered, Stalin described such assurances as vague. He insisted that the situation calls for a clear commitment in Parliament and the introduction of a Constitutional amendment. He added: 'Just look at what happened after Article 370 was abrogated. The Union government spoke of restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. Elections were held. Assurances were given in the Supreme Court. Yet, Jammu and Kashmir remains a Union Territory. This is the track record of BJP we are dealing with.' Stalin warned that if delimitation is carried out using the 2027 Census, the democratic influence of the southern states would be severely diminished. He also criticised the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), saying, 'Betrayers like the AIADMK choose to kneel before the BJP for their political survival,' but that the people of Tamil Nadu, under the DMK's leadership, would not allow the state to suffer for its developmental success.

Coal scam case: CBI court acquits former bureaucrats Gupta, Kropha, Samaria

A special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court on Friday acquitted former coal secretary HC Gupta, former joint secretary (coal) KS Kropha, and former coal allocation director KC Samaria in the high-profile 2012 coal scam case. Special Judge Sanjay Bansal convicted JAS Infrastructure Capital Ltd and its then director Manoj Kumar Jayaswal for cheating and criminal conspiracy in connection with the allocation of the Mahugarhi coal block in Jharkhand. Sentencing arguments are scheduled for 8 July 2025. CBI recounts progress and previous findings 'This is the 19th conviction in coal block allocation cases investigated by CBI,' a CBI spokesperson said. The agency initially filed its closure report in the matter on 20 November 2014. Previously, the court had framed charges against JAS Infrastructure Capital Pvt Ltd, Manoj Kumar Jayaswal, HC Gupta, KS Kropha, and KC Samaria. The CBI said that the promoters of JAS Infrastructure had made 'false and misleading claims' about the company's financial net worth, which formed the basis of the allocation. During the trial, 18 prosecution witnesses were examined. This case marks the 19th conviction out of the 54 coal block allocation cases probed by the CBI. Only half of these cases have been disposed of so far. Previous coal block cases involving the acquitted officials In 2017, Gupta, Kropha, and Samaria were convicted by another special CBI court for irregularities in the allocation of coal blocks in Madhya Pradesh to Kamal Sponge Steel & Power Ltd (KSSPL). They were granted bail on the same day. In April this year, Judge Bansal discharged Gupta and Kropha in a separate coal block allocation case related to Mednirai, also in Jharkhand, citing lack of evidence. The coal scam, also known as the Coalgate scandal, erupted in 2012 after the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) reported that the government had allocated coal blocks to private companies without transparent auctions. The report estimated a 'notional loss' of ₹1.86 lakh crore to the exchequer. The scandal triggered widespread political uproar and was a major factor in the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government's defeat in the 2014 general elections, which brought the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to power.

"What Drama... They Are On A Firing Spree": BJP MP After Bengaluru Tragedy

Calling the spree of suspensions in the wake of Bengaluru stampede deaths "drama", BJP MP Tejasvi Surya on Friday hinted that scapegoating has taken place and accused Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and his Deputy DK Shivakumar of evading responsibility. Eleven people died in a crowd crush outside M Chinnaswamy stadium, as tens of thousands turned up to cheer Royal Challengers Bengaluru's title win in the Indian Premier League (IPL) earlier this week. "What drama is this? An honest police officer who is actually known for his integrity, as very few of such people remaining in the system these days, he is suspended. RCB is being hounded. And the political secretary of the chief minister, who advised him to not go ahead with the celebrations, is now sacked," Tejasvi Survya, Bengaluru South MP who is in the US as part of the multi-party delegation carrying India's Operation Sindoor message, told NDTV. Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayanand, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's political secretary K Govindaraj and head of the information department, Hemant Nimbalkar, are among those who have been suspended since Wednesday, the day of the tragedy. Earlier today, four people, including the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) Marketing Head and DNA Event Management Company staffers, were arrested. "The two people who are primarily responsible for what happened are the Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister and to save their own skin, they are going about on a firing spree, starting from the police commissioner to the RCB head, to his own political secretary," said Mr Surya. The BJP MP cited the example of Sacha Baron Cohen movie, "The Dictator", to drive home the point. "If you remember this movie Borat. You know, this The Dictator from Kazakhstan - left, right and center - he keeps firing everybody, you know, to suit his political whim. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar appear to be like the dictator from Borat movie at least today," said Mr Surya. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has criticised the BJP for politicising the stampede. His remarks came after the BJP accused the Congress-led state government of making the police a "scapegoat" in the incident. Mr Surya said the Chief Minister invited people for the celebration, but accused him of failing to make arrangements. "So, you invite lakhs of people, you don't make arrangements, you do not take care of protocols to be put in place. You bring your entire extended family to stand on the stage along with these cricketers, take selfies, hog the limelight, snatch the trophy from their hand and hold it high up as though you have actually earned it. And then when all hell breaks loose, you go about on a firing spree to save your skin," said Mr Surya. "This is a joke that is being played. Look at the way DK Shiv Kumar has posed with the IPL Cup. Honestly, what has he done to achieve it? In the last 18 years, what has CM Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar done to support the local cricketing talent in Karnataka? What have they done to partake undeservingly in this glory of RCB's victory?" he further asked. The Bengaluru South MP spotlighted that it is not some counter-terrorism operation where you need specific intelligence inputs, hinting at the lack of planning for the event. "This is not a failure that can be, you know, attributed to lack of intelligence input. It is a failure because of natural stupidity of Shivakumar and Chief Minister. This is not a lack of intelligence inputs from the police commissioner," he said. "Any person who has a reasonable sense of how things go will anticipate that if the state government, starting with the Chief Minister, gives an open invitation for a grand celebration on the steps of Vidhan Sauda, people are bound to come in lakhs and lakhs of numbers. You don't need an IPS officer or an intelligence chief of the state police to tell you that lakhs of people will turn up, that there is going to be an emotional frenzy. And if you don't realise it, it speaks volumes of your stupidity and you don't have a right to hold public office if this is your intellectual ability of comprehension," he said. The MP cited the case of the 2024 T20 World Cup victory celebration in Mumbai to draw a contrast between the two events. "And I have a question to ask. It's not the first time that celebrations of this kind have been arranged in this country. After we won the World Cup, there was a huge parade that was organised in Mumbai. Close to 15-16 lakh people participated in it. Not a single untoward incident took place. Because it was well-managed, well-planned, well-organised," he said. "This is extremely unfortunate. This was an avoidable but man-made, man-created. Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah created the tragedy," he said further.
