Dishoom confirms it will open Glasgow restaurant this summer

The award-winning Indian Restaurant chain will open the doors to its second Scottish eatery on Nelson Mandela Place in the summer, Glasgow World reports.
It will take over two units, one of which was previously occupied by Absurd Bird which closed suddenly in July 2022, and has a agreed a 20-year lease.

(Image: AECR UK Investment I Limited) John Menzies, director in the retail team at Savills Scotland, said: "Agreed off market, this is another fantastic deal for Glasgow and is testament to its popularity as a key food & beverage location.
"Feedback from many national operators who have prime sites in the city, put Glasgow in the top 10% of their UK bar and restaurant portfolios, measured by both turnover and profit.
"Consequently, occupier demand for the very best F&B properties remain strong and we are already in discussions with a number of national brands who wish to open later this year."

The Glasgow Times reported in November last year that Savills had submitted proposals to Glasgow City Council on behalf of AECR UK Investment I Limited to combine the ground floor and basement units at 3/11 Nelson Mandela Place within the former A-listed Glasgow Stock Exchange building.
The plans were approved in February.
Founded in 2010, Dishoom was designed to match the Irani cafes that were popular in Mumbai in the 1960s.
Their first restaurant opened in Covent Garden and the company now operates 10 sites across the UK between Edinburgh, London, Birmingham and Manchester which often have diners queuing out the door to get a seat.

For the fourth year in a row the firm posted significant pre-tax losses. While it recorded a losses of £12.5m in 2020, £9.4m in 2021, and £30.5m in 2022, last year's losses are more than those three years combined. BrewDog said every independent brewer is affected and claims it anticipated the decline. According to the industry insider, the axing may see BrewDog more reliant on the 794 JD Wetherspoon pubs which are a key segment of its remaining distribution, 'If they ever lost the JD Wetherspoon deal, then that's Punk IPA done as a [pub trade] product,' they said. Lauren Caroll, BrewDog's chief operating officer, said: 'Independent brewers across the board have felt the squeeze from the economic pressures hitting the pub trade. With costs rising and consumers watching their spend, pub groups have been narrowing their ranges, and brewery-owned pubs are putting more emphasis on their own brands. 'It's not just us – every independent brewer has been affected. We saw the trend coming, which is why we've shifted focus to high-impact channels like festivals, stadiums, and independent [pubs].'
