'If you don't buy, others will': Woman lists NDP tickets for $25 each, Singapore News

AsiaOne6 days ago
The National Day Parade (NDP) organising committee has warned of scams involving the unauthorised sale of NDP 2025 tickets.
This comes after listings surfaced online offering "official" tickets for as much as $25 each.
One such listing, posted on Facebook on Sunday (July 20) and since removed, advertised tickets for the NDP at the Padang on Aug 9.
The seller claimed she had successfully secured four tickets through a Safra ballot earlier this month.
"Sure can enter. If you don't buy now, others will," she told an AsiaOne reporter posing as a potential buyer.
But checks by AsiaOne found that Safra did not organise any balloting of NDP tickets for the Padang show.
Instead, its ticket balloting was for NDP celebrations on Aug 2 and 9 at Bayfront Event Space, which organisers previously said is part of an "expanded canvas" to mark Singapore's 60th year of independence.
Other sites which are part of the celebrations in the Marina Bay area include The Promontory, The Meadow at Gardens by the Bay, Marina Barrage and the Singapore Sports Hub.
AsiaOne has contacted Safra for comment.
The NDP executive committee clarified that there is no official sale or reselling of tickets.
"If you see tickets being sold online, it's likely a scam," the committee said on Sunday via its official NDPeeps accounts on Facebook and Instagram.
It also advised the public not to respond to such listings by sharing their personal details and making any payments.
In a reply on the AskGov platform, the committee reiterated that tickets obtained through unauthorised channels will be rendered void.
This means that those holding to such tickets will be denied entry.
Ticket applications to the parade have closed. Successful applicants should have been notified between June 20 and 25 via SMS and email.

Dramatic Moment Brave Shopper Confronts Knife-Wielding Madman at Michigan Walmart After He Stabs 11 as First Photo of Attacker Emerges

At least 11 people were injured in a bloody stabbing rampage inside a Michigan Walmart on Saturday night, causing terrified customers and staff to run for safety, before a brave armed citizen stepped in and helped detain the attacker, according to police, eyewitnesses, and dramatic video footage. A dramatic video captured the extraordinary moment when the brave citizen was joined by three other men and confronted the unhinged suspect in the parking lot of the Traverse City Walmart. Amid the chaos, one of the brave men, who had lost his shoes, was seen walking barefoot as he ordered the knife-wielding attacker to drop his weapon before the suspect was arrested. Terror at Walmart 11 people were stabbed at a Michigan Walmart store X "Get on the ground!" one of the men could be heard shouting, while another yelled, "Drop the knife! Drop it!" "Throw the knife that way! Throw it away!" the barefoot man continued to shout. The terror unfolded around 5 p.m. when a 42-year-old man allegedly started attacking shoppers at random with a typical folding knife inside different areas of the large retail store in Traverse City — located roughly 255 miles northwest of Detroit — according to Grand Traverse County Sheriff Michael Shea. "Based on the information that we have at this time, they were random acts," Shea said during a press conference on Saturday night, noting that such violent stabbings are "very uncommon" in the city. "Eleven [victims] is too many, but thank God it wasn't more." Six of the victims are currently in critical condition, while the remaining five are reported to be in serious condition. Police said that the terror started near the store's checkout counter. "The whole store started screaming and running," employee Tasha Nash told Channel2 Now, adding, "There was a guy with a knife — he stabbed six people. I saw someone stabbed in the eye." The Michigan Walmart knife attacker attacker seen after his arrest X Photos shared by Channel 2 Now show the ruthless suspect being placed into a Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Office vehicle following the stabbing spree. A customer who showed up at the store shortly after the brutal attack said she was stunned by the overwhelming presence of emergency personnel at the scene. "We were getting ready to go into Walmart as this was happening," one witness wrote on X shortly after investigators asked the public to avoid the area. "Of course, we weren't allowed to go in. I have never seen so many police cars, ambulances, fire trucks, rescue vehicles and crime scene vehicles! They sent the employees home and told all of the customers to leave. Wow." Bigger Danger Avoided All 11 victims were transported to Munson Medical Center — the largest hospital in northern Michigan — where they are currently receiving treatment, Munson Healthcare stated in a Facebook post shortly before 7 p.m. The knife-wielding attacker seen being confronted bya brave shopper after he stabbed 11 at a Michigan Walmart X "Munson Healthcare is aware of the tragic incident that occurred earlier today at the Walmart in Traverse City," the agency said. "Our thoughts are with all of those affected by this event, and we are grateful to the first responders and law enforcement for their swift action. As a result, our Emergency Department is currently experiencing a higher-than-usual volume of patients." Police have not yet released the identity of the suspected attacker or a possible motive behind the horrific incident, but noted that the violent suspect appears to be a resident of Michigan. A spokesperson for Walmart stated that the company is actively "cooperating with law enforcement." "I'm in touch with law enforcement about the horrible news out of Traverse City," Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said on X. I am grateful to the first responders for their swift response to apprehend the suspect." FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino shared on social media that the federal agency is helping at the scene, offering "any needed support" to the Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Office as the investigation into the terrifying attack continues. Authorities have confirmed that the investigation remains active and are urging the public to stay clear of the area.

Netizens praise migrant workers who rescued driver after sinkhole incident at Tanjong Katong Road South

SINGAPORE: A vehicle fell into a large sinkhole that formed along Tanjong Katong Road South on 26 July 2025 at around 5pm, resulting in its female driver being taken to hospital. The incident has sparked widespread praise for migrant workers who were captured on video rescuing the woman from the flooded sinkhole. Photos and videos quickly spread across social media platforms, showing the car partially submerged in the water-filled sinkhole next to an active worksite. In one TikTok video, several migrant workers from a nearby site can be seen rushing to the scene without hesitation. According to an earlier Facebook post by PUB, Singapore's national water agency, the sinkhole emerged at the junction of Tanjong Katong Road and Mountbatten Road, affecting two lanes. The incident occurred next to an existing PUB worksite. PUB initially stated that the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) had carried out the rescue and conveyed the driver, who was conscious, to Raffles Hospital. However, netizens were quick to point out that the video evidence showed the migrant workers were the first to act. Many comments highlighted the workers' bravery in approaching the unstable, waterlogged sinkhole to pull the driver to safety before official responders arrived. One comment read, 'Let's give credit where it's due. Migrant workers are generally invisible but in moments of bravery and selfless action, they should be acknowledged.' On 27 July 2025, PUB updated its statement, acknowledging and appreciating the swift actions of the workers on site who rescued the driver. PUB confirmed it is in touch with the driver to provide necessary support. PUB also said recovery works at the site are ongoing and updates will be provided when ready. Others noted the high risk involved, describing the sinkhole as a torrent of water and shifting soil. Many commenters stressed that the workers' daily exposure to construction dangers may have prepared them for this quick-thinking response. PUB also stated that the Police, SCDF, and the Land Transport Authority (LTA) were at the scene to manage the situation. Both directions of the affected road have been closed to traffic, with motorists advised to use alternative routes such as Mountbatten Road and East Coast Parkway (ECP). Early on 27 July 2025, LTA confirmed via Facebook that Tanjong Katong Road South would remain closed for repairs until further notice. Bus services along the stretch have also been diverted to ensure safety. Goh Pei Ming, Member of Parliament for Marine Parade–Braddell Heights GRC, acknowledged that the rescue was thanks to the quick actions of the workers on site. He added that the driver was conveyed conscious to hospital and that the safety of the area is now a priority. Nearby residents have raised concerns about the integrity of their homes and surrounding roads. In response, the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) reported that its engineers carried out preliminary checks on One Amber condominium and the landed houses across the road. The checks confirmed that these buildings were not affected, though stabilisation works have begun as a precaution. The sinkhole incident has drawn significant attention to the unseen contributions of migrant workers, whose swift actions may have prevented a greater tragedy. The area remains under close monitoring by PUB, LTA, and BCA as repair and safety works continue.

Trump says Thailand, Cambodia agree to hold immediate ceasefire talks, World News

SISAKET, Thailand/WASHINGTON - US President Donald Trump said on Saturday (July 26) the leaders of Cambodia and Thailand had agreed to meet immediately to quickly work out a ceasefire, as he sought to broker peace after three days of fighting along their border. Thailand's acting prime minister, Phumtham Wechayachai, thanked Trump and said Thailand "agrees in principle to have a ceasefire in place" but "would like to see sincere intention from the Cambodian side." Phumtham was responding in a Facebook post to a series of social media posts by Trump during a visit to Scotland. Trump said he had spoken to Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Phumtham and warned them that he would not make trade deals with either if the border conflict continued. "Both Parties are looking for an immediate Ceasefire and Peace," Trump wrote as he gave a blow-by-blow account of his diplomatic efforts. Phumtham also said he had asked Trump "to convey to the Cambodian side that Thailand wants to convene a bilateral dialogue as soon as possible to bring forth measures and procedures for the ceasefire and the eventual peaceful resolution of the conflict." More than 30 people have been killed and more than 130,000 people displaced in the worst fighting between the Southeast Asian neighbours in 13 years. Before Trump spoke to the two leaders, Thai-Cambodian border clashes persisted into a third day and new flashpoints emerged as both sides said they had acted in self-defence in the dispute and called on the other to cease fighting and start negotiations. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is deeply concerned by the clashes and "urges both sides to immediately agree to a ceasefire and to address any issues through dialogue," Deputy UN spokesperson Farhan Haq said in a statement. Haq said Guterres "condemns the tragic and unnecessary loss of lives" and "remains available to assist in any efforts towards a peaceful resolution of the dispute." Trump offered no details on the ceasefire negotiations he said Thailand and Cambodia had agreed to hold. The White House did not immediately respond to questions on the timing and venue for talks and the Thai and Cambodian embassies in Washington also did not immediately respond. There were clashes early on Saturday, both sides said, in the Thai coastal province of Trat and Cambodia's Pursat Province, a new front more than 100 km (60 miles) from other conflict points along the long-contested border. The countries have faced off since the killing of a Cambodian soldier late in May during a brief skirmish. Troops on both sides of the border were reinforced amid a full-blown diplomatic crisis that brought Thailand's fragile coalition government to the brink of collapse. As of Saturday, Thailand said seven soldiers and 13 civilians had been killed, while Cambodia said five soldiers and eight civilians had been killed. Trump's direct involvement followed US calls for restraint on both sides. He said he spoke to each leader and relayed messages back and forth. "They have agreed to immediately meet and quickly work out a Ceasefire and, ultimately, peace!," Trump wrote, saying both countries wanted to get back to the "Trading Table." He has sought to reach separate deals with dozens of countries by Aug 1 in response to his announcement of wide-ranging tariffs on imports to the US "When all is done, and Peace is at hand, I look forward to concluding our Trading Agreements with both!" Trump said. Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, chair of the Asean regional bloc, said he would continue to push a ceasefire proposal. Cambodia has backed Anwar's plan, while Thailand has said it agreed with it in principle. Security council meeting Thailand's UN ambassador told a Security Council meeting on Friday that soldiers had been injured by newly planted land mines in Thai territory on two occasions since mid-July - claims Cambodia has strongly denied - and said Cambodia had then launched attacks on Thursday morning. On Saturday, Cambodia accused Thailand of "a deliberate, unprovoked, and unlawful military attack" and said "military preparations reveal Thailand's intent to expand its aggression and further violate Cambodia's sovereignty." It called for the international community to condemn Thailand's "aggression" and prevent an expansion of its military activities, while Bangkok says it wants to resolve the dispute bilaterally. Southeast Asia expert Gregory Poling of Washington's Center for Strategic and International Studies said it would be positive if Trump could help speed up ceasefire talks, but cautioned: "Neither Cambodia nor Thailand -- or their publics -- will appreciate the threat to weaponize trade to make it happen. And if they do reach a ceasefire and either or both still don't get a trade deal before Aug 1, they are likely to view it as a US betrayal." [[nid:720618]] Thailand and Cambodia have bickered for decades over undemarcated points along their 817-km (508-mile) land border, with ownership of the ancient Hindu temples Ta Moan Thom and the 11th century Preah Vihear central to the disputes. Preah Vihear was awarded to Cambodia by the International Court of Justice in 1962, but tension escalated in 2008 after Cambodia attempted to list it as a Unesco World Heritage site, and skirmishes over several years brought at least a dozen deaths. Cambodia said in June it had asked the court to resolve its disputes with Thailand, which says it has never recognised the court's jurisdiction and prefers a bilateral approach.
