Harmanpreet's Century, Gaud's 6-Fer Helps India Beat England, Clinch Series 2-1
A splendid 84-ball 102 from skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and a brisk fifty from Jemimah Rodrigues propelled India Women to 318/5 as Kranti Gaud starred with 6/52 to bowl out England by 13 runs in the third and final ODI to clinch the series 2-1 on Tuesday.
Harmanpreet's fluent innings featured 14 boundaries and key partnerships, leading to her seventh ODI century overall and third against England. Despite Harmanpreet's efforts, India's score fell short of their highest ODI total against England, 333/5, achieved in September 2022 in Canterbury.
What Record's Did Harmanpreet Break?
Harmanpreet showcased her skills particularly on the off-side, hitting most of her boundaries there, with a few driven down the ground and one behind the wicket. She formed crucial partnerships, adding 81 runs for the third wicket with Harleen Deol (45) and a rapid 110-run stand off 77 balls with Rodrigues, pushing India past the 300-run mark.
Richa Ghosh then provided the finishing touches with a quickfire 38 off 18 balls, including three fours and two sixes, capping off an all-round performance for the visitors, who had earlier won the five-match T20I series.
The foundation was laid by a solid 64-run opening stand between Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal. Mandhana played the aggressor, scoring 45 off 54 balls with five fours, while Rawal played a supporting role, making 26 off 33 balls with two boundaries.
Mandhana's innings ended when she pulled a short and wide ball from Sophie Ecclestone straight to Sophia Dunkley at midwicket in the 18th over. Rawal was dismissed in the 13th over, edged behind to 'keeper Amy Jones off Charlie Dean, a decision confirmed on review.
Rodrigues found her rhythm with three consecutive fours off Dean in the 41st over and two more in the next, but couldn't advance beyond her 45-ball 50, which included seven fours.
Harleen Deol appeared set for a significant score before being bounced out by seamer Lauren Bell for 45 off 65 balls, hitting four boundaries.

Rhine-Ruhr, Essen (Germany), Jul 26 (PTI) Sahil Jadhav produced a near-flawless performance under pressure to clinch the men's compound individual gold as Indian archers wrapped up their World University Games campaign with an impressive haul of five medals here on Saturday. With a mixed team gold, men's team silver, women's team bronze, and two individual medals — Jadhav's gold and Parneet's silver — India concluded their archery campaign at the Games on a high, showcasing depth and promise in compound events. India's 24-year-old athlete Praveen Chithravel then came up with a superb leap of 16.66 metres in his second attempt to clinch silver in triple jump to take the country's medal tally on the penultimate day to two gold, three silver and three bronze in the showpiece event. The Bhubaneswar athlete finished behind Australia's Connor Murphy, who had a season's best jump of 16.77m. India can further improve their tally as both the men's and women's 4x400m relay teams have also made a strong statement by qualifying for the finals. The impressive show by the compound archers made up for the flop show by the Olympic discipline recurve archers who drew a blank here. Jadhav, who shot 14 perfect 10s before dropping a single point with his final arrow, edged out Great Britain's Ajay Scott 149-148 in a thrilling gold medal match. The Indian held his nerve despite Scott opening with three Xs (10-point arrow closer to the centre), maintaining a flawless streak until the final arrow of the fifth end. Jadhav had earlier reached the final after a nail-biting all-Indian semifinal, where he got the better of Kushal Dalal in a shoot-off after both archers were tied 148-148. The deciding arrow saw Jadhav shoot a 10* (closer to centre), which edged Dalal's 10. Dalal, however, endured heartbreak in the bronze medal match, going down 148-150 to Poland's Przemysław Konecki, who shot a perfect round of 15 arrows to seal the third-place finish. In the women's compound section, reigning Asian Games team gold medallist Parneet settled for silver after a narrow 146-147 defeat against South Korea's Moon Yeeun in a high-intensity final. Parneet, who had topped the qualification round, started strong and shot flawlessly in the first two ends (three arrows each), opening up a two-point lead against her third seed rival. However, she lost momentum in the third end, dropping two points as Moon stepped up with a perfect round of 30 to draw level. There was no looking back for the Korean thereafter as Moon shot another flawless round of three 10s in the fourth end to gain a one-point lead. That meant Parneet needed a perfect score in the final end to keep her hopes alive for the gold. But despite scoring an impressive 29, Moon matched her with another 29 to seal the title 147-146. Earlier in the semifinals, Parneet edged fifth seed Kim Sooyeon of South Korea by just one point (145-144) in a tense contest. Half-marathoners disappoint =================== India's strong presence in the half-marathon came to naught as none of the 10 runners in men's and women's sections could finish on the podium, even as a couple of personal best were recorded. Among the five Indian distance runners in the men's section, Mohit and Mohit Choudhary, recorded personal best times of 1:04:08 seconds and 1:06:51 seconds to finish sixth and 21st respectively in the gruelling event. Three others, Arun Dhansing Rathod (26th), Shubham Baliyan (32nd) and Ankit Deswal (36th) clocked 1:07:19 sec, 1:08:32 sec and 1:09:07 sec respectively, raising a question mark on the selection of the distance runners. Shinsaku Kudo smashed the WUG record in the event, finishing the race in 1:02:29 seconds to take the gold, while Ramazan Bastug (1:02:35) of Turkey took the silver and Japan's Ryuto Uehara (1:02:39 sec) bagged the bronze. The women's half-marathon too didn't throw up any interesting results for the Indians with Jyoti clocking 1:21:22 seconds to finish 21st in a field of 27 runners. China's Ma Xiuzhen finished a good nine minutes ahead to take the gold with a personal best time of 1:12:48 seconds. Gill, Rahul keep India in the game after Stokes century
Manchester, Jul 26 (PTI) Captain Shubman Gill and the ever-dependable K L Rahul gave India a glimmer of hope with resilient half-centuries after a well crafted hundred from Ben Stokes extended England's supremacy in the fourth Test here on Saturday. Having lost Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan for no run in the second innings, Gill (78 batting off 167 balls) and Rahul (87 batting off 210 balls) showed plenty of patience in their 174-run stand to substantially cut England's massive 311-run lead. At stumps on day four, India stood at 174 for two after two wicketless sessions, still trailing the hosts by 137 runs. England were all out for 669 in the morning session following Stokes' special 141 off 198 balls that came after a five wicket haul on Friday. The highly skilled duo of Gill and Rahul could have taken more risk against left-arm spinner Liam Dawson but both did play some sizzling drives against the fast bowlers. England tried plenty of things in the final session including peppering the well set pair with short balls but Rahul and Gill were unfazed. England have purposefully targeted Gill's pads sensing a weakness but the Indian captain found a way to survive a lethal spell from Archer. Rahul, on the other hand, has looked chanceless in the series, playing the ball late with a water-tight defence. Rahul's square cuts and back cuts were regal and was on par with Gordon Greenidge and Virender Sehwag, two of the best exponents of shots square off the track. The nature of the surface has been slow and dry this season with none of the four county games here producing a result. India will have that piece of information at the back of their mind. In the afternoon session, Gill overcame initial jitters for a hard fought fifty leading India's show of resistance in a wicketless afternoon session to leave the visitors at 86 for two. England fast bowlers, especially Jofra Archer, hurled inswingers into Gill's pads but the Indian captain was able to survive those testing moments before playing sumptuous strokes. Gill also had the luck on his side as he was dropped by Dawson off Brydon Carse at backward point on 46. Gill played some stunning straight drives and cover drives on way to a gritty half-century. In the 17th over, he collected back to back boundaries off Archer, first was a crisp cover drive followed by an upper cut. He also hit consecutive boundaries off Carse including a regal on drive. In the morning session, India made a disastrous start to their second innings after Stokes struck a stroke-filled hundred following his five-wicket haul to help England take a massive 311-run lead. With England posting a mammoth 669 in the morning session, India came out roughly 20 minutes before lunch. It was hara-kiri in the middle as Jaiswal and Sudharsan departed in successive balls in the first over of India's innings. Jaiswal tried to flick a ball off Chris Woakes but was caught by Joe Root at first slip after a fumble. The very next ball Sudharsan was late in leaving the ball and ended up giving catching practice to Harry Brook at second slip. Like it was the case in the second innings, England fast bowlers seem to get a lot more out of the pitch than the Indians in this brief passage of play. Resuming the day at 544 for seven, England effectively batted India out of the game. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj looked in good rhythm and bowled with a lot more intensity than shown on Friday but it was not enough to stop England from amassing the highest total at Old Trafford. Bumrah ended with figures of 33-5-112-2, the first time he conceded 100 runs or more in what has been phenomenal Test career. Stokes began the day by stepping out to Siraj and dispatching him through the cover region before playing an expansive drive off the Indian workhorse. He completed a rare double of 100 and a five wicket haul in the same with a tickle down the leg side off Siraj that went for four.
