Sabah election: Civil servants must maintain service delivery, says Hajiji
He stressed the importance of professionalism, neutrality, and integrity among government personnel.
'The efficiency and transparency of civil servants during this challenging period reflect our commitment to upholding democratic governance and administrative stability,' Hajiji said in a statement following the Post-Cabinet Meeting at Menara Kinabalu.
The 16th Sabah state assembly's term will automatically end on Nov 11, leading to the 17th Sabah State Election.
Hajiji also directed department heads to ensure efficient operations to prevent delays, wastage, and loss of public trust.
'Civil servants must carry out their responsibilities with integrity, transparency and a strong sense of accountability.
'They must avoid any conflict of interest to ensure the state government's goals and objectives are successfully achieved,' he added.
Meanwhile, four bills will be tabled in the upcoming two-day state assembly session starting next Monday.
The Chief Minister's Department will introduce the Forest (Amendment) Bill 2025 and the Climate and Carbon Governance Bill 2025, while the Ministry of Finance will present the State Sales Tax (Amendment) Bill 2025 and the Supplementary Supply Bill 2025.

KUALA LUMPUR: The National Registration (Amendment) Bill 2025 was tabled for the first time at the Dewan Rakyat today. Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail confirmed the bill will also undergo its second and third readings during this Parliament session. This legislative proposal aims to amend the National Registration Act 1959 (Act 78) by introducing significant updates to its provisions. Section 2 will be amended to include a new definition of biometric data under Clause 2. Subsection 6(2) of the same act will be enhanced to expand the Minister's power to make regulations under Clause 3. Subclause 3(a) will replace paragraph 6(2)(d) of Act 78 to empower the Minister to make regulations to provide for the collection and recording of biometric data and the conditions that may be imposed on the collection and recording of biometric data. Subclause 3(b) will amend paragraph 6(2)(e) of Act 78 to empower the Minister to make regulations to provide for controls on the use and information in identity cards. Subclause 3(c) will delete paragraph 6(2)(j) of Act 78 which gives the Minister the power to prescribe the maximum charge for taking photographs since no charge is imposed for taking photographs. The amendment will also insert a new section 6A into Act 78 to give the Minister the power, with the approval of the public prosecutor, to make regulations to prescribe the offences that can be compounded and the methods and procedures for compounding such offences. This clause seeks to give the director-general the power to compound offences that can be compounded with the written consent of the public prosecutor. – Bernama

Shahelmey weighs GRS ticket after BN door ‘closes'

Kuala Lumpur: Sabah deputy chief minister Shahelmey Yahya is weighing the possibility of contesting under Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) in the upcoming state election, with his chances of standing again as a Barisan Nasional candidate possibly over. Shahelmey, who currently holds the Tanjung Keramat seat, said his decision would ultimately hinge on feedback from voters in the constituency. Advertisement 'I need to listen to the people in the area because they are the ones who will be voting. There is also the local machinery whose views I must consider. 'If the feedback is convincing, then we will make a decision,' he told FMT when met at the Parliament building. GRS chairman Hajiji Noor had earlier expressed confidence that Shahelmey could defend the seat under the coalition's banner. Shahelmey first won Tanjung Keramat on a BN ticket in 2020. However, his ties with BN have soured since March 2023, when Umno suspended him for six years for refusing to support the party's move to topple Hajiji. The rift widened last year after Sabah BN chief Bung Moktar Radin named Sabah Umno election director Jeffrey Noh as the coalition's candidate for Tanjung Keramat, effectively sidelining Shahelmey. '(It's as if) the door has closed,' Shahelmey said of his BN prospects. He said there had been no discussions with Sabah BN or coalition chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi regarding his candidacy. Shahelmey said his decision on whether to contest on a GRS ticket was further complicated by his position as Umno's Putatan MP. Under the anti-hopping law, he risks losing his parliamentary seat if he contests under a party other than BN as he won Putatan on a BN ticket in the 15th general election. 'That matter is quite technical.
