Ex-foundation CEO learned of funds in Najib's account from news reports
Ung Su Ling, testifying in a lawsuit against the former prime minister, said she received instructions from Najib's former aide on the transfer of RM42 million.
She said Najib's former principal private secretary, Datuk Azlin Alias, had instructed her to tell Ihsan Perdana Sdn Bhd (IPSB) managing director Datuk Seri Shamsul Anwar Sulaiman where to send the funds.
Ung said she was told the money would be transferred into an IPSB bank account.
"At the time, I had no knowledge of how the funds were used. I only ensured I followed Azlin's instructions for Shamsul to transfer the RM42 million into the '880' and '906' AmBank accounts," she said.
"However, based on media reports and the judgment in Najib's SRC criminal case, I now understand those accounts were his personal bank accounts."
The money did not belong to YR1M, she said. The foundation had provided grants and funding to IPSB for community programmes as part of the 1Malaysia initiative.
When asked by Najib's lawyer, Muhammad Farhan Shafee, if she had verified the source and purpose of the funds before passing on the instructions, Ung said she saw no need to seek further details.
"It is not my place... If you were to give money to someone, it is not my place to enquire, right?"
The lawsuit, filed in 2021 by SRC International and its subsidiary, Gandingan Mentari Sdn Bhd, claims Najib committed a breach of trust, misused his power, and personally benefited from the company's funds.
The companies are seeking RM42 million from Najib.
The hearing continues on Sept 8.

KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court here was told that former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak betrayed the public's trust by misusing RM42mil from SRC International Sdn Bhd, funds that were meant to benefit Malaysia's energy future and civil service pensioners. 'Najib was the finance minister at the time and had full control over SRC International. He held key positions, including that of adviser emeritus. 'As such, no significant transaction occurred without his knowledge or consent,' he said yesterday, Bernama reported. Kwan added that evidence will show the RM42mil was transferred from SRC International and ultimately ended up in Najib's personal bank accounts. Of this sum, RM32mil was immediately transferred to two companies that had previously covered shortfalls in Najib's accounts. 'These transfers were made pursuant to instruction letters bearing his personal signature. 'The remaining RM10mil was spent through personal cheques issued by Najib himself. 'We say that the money trail is clear, the documentary evidence is overwhelming, and Najib's own sworn admissions are damning. 'We will prove our case under three complementary causes of action: knowing receipt, dishonest assistance and misfeasance in public office. 'On any of these grounds, justice demands that these public funds be returned to their rightful owners, the Malaysian people,' Kwan said. The court also heard testimony from the first witness, former chief executive officer of Yayasan Rakyat 1Malaysia, Ung Su Ling, 57, whose appointment was approved by Najib. The hearing before Justice Raja Ahmad Mohzanuddin Shah Raja Mohzan is set to continue on Nov 6. The lawsuit, filed in May 2022, accuses Najib of breach of fiduciary duties, knowing receipt of funds, dishonest assistance, tort of misfeasance in public office, and abuse of power in relation to the misappropriation of SRC International funds.

The campaign also utilises social and mainstream media, alongside partnerships with influencers and local celebrities, to showcase Johor's tourism highlights. 'After nearly 13 years since the last Visit Johor Year, which was postponed from 2020 due to the pandemic, now is the ideal time to revive the campaign,' he said at the VJY2026 sticker launch at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium today. Key tourism upgrades include a new night experience at the upgraded Johor Zoo and the imminent reopening of eco-tourism sites like Gunung Ledang Waterfall. Nazrul described today's event as the start of a comprehensive, inclusive and impactful promotion to position Johor among Malaysia's top travel destinations. Launched with the Johor Tourism Association, the initiative aims to deploy over 10,000 VJY2026 stickers on public transport and vehicles, including trishaws, motorcycles, cars, tour buses, caravans and e-hailing services.
